Not a wagon, but I’d vote for an Element. Ugly adjacent but nearly bulletproof reliability and can haul a shit ton of stuff in the back. Not sexy like a wagon but who gives a fuk

My buddy had one of those forever and had the pop top put on it for like four grand. He loved that car and yeah it was very reliable

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

    Wagon Stoke

I still kind of have fantasies off getting one with a pop top out on. Killer set up. Maybe add a lift and some All Terrains too lol

Owned one. The suicide doors get pretty old after a while. It was kind of gutless with stock tires, it would be a total turd with a lift and ATs.

I see what you mean about cargo space with the flip down seats… would 235k miles scare you on an otherwise clean looking 2006?

I got my kid a small pickup.
No kids in the back seat to distract them and anytime there were more than two, they had to take someone else's car.

local searching (upstate NY) looks something like a 10-12 year old Subie, A4 allroad or XC70 with 100k+ miles. kid's not a wrencher; and I don't mind doing the basic stuff like tires, brakes, belts, etc. He's likely not staying close to home when he goes off to college next summer, so that factors in for reliability...
IMHO all of those vehicles are money pit POSes, and that's even before factoring in upstate NY rust.

Any chance you have relatives somewhere west or south, who can find you something not rusty?

Yeah, I have a 2013 Outback that I'd let go for $4k, but I wouldn't be doing you a favor.

$8k is a tough number in the used car market these days.

The problem is when you are not looking they throw eight kids in the bed. At least that’s what we did.

the problem with those honda elements is the 4wd kicks off at something like 35 or 45 mph. if it weren't for that I would definitely have one for a ski trip vehicle.

I'd search for an old Lexus RX (Highlander in a suit, 2 row only for the age you'd get for $8K). Something circa 2008-2012 should be obtainable in that price range in decent shape.

That and RXes are driven almost exclusively by 55-75 year old white women who always have them maintained by the Lexus dealer, heated garage kept, and likely with a second set of winter wheels and tires that also were stored at the Lexus dealer.

That's definitely the profile for the original purchaser. That, and real estate agents.

Just got my E350 back from the shop. Road construction mistake WRECKED my front end suspension. Super sucked but they had to replace my struts and axles. Gonna swap tires next with some nice Michelins.

All said, my trusty steed continues to be incredibly reliable and I'm still loving it. Can't believe it's 10+ years old now! Helluva car.

That sounds pricey! I thought you were thinking of selling it?

Someone asked if you would trust a car with $235,000 mi on it and the answer is maybe. My Volvo is a one owner car that's always been meticulously maintained. I just put three grand into rebuilding the front suspension and it drives like new. So yeah it depends.

We were going to. Ends up we couldn't bring ourselves to part ways with it. Especially since it seats 7. So ultimately we decided to sell the C30 instead, much as it pains me. I love that little car too.
I still have it, but the time is coming soon when we shall part ways. [emoji24]

^^ What are you thinking you are going to ask for it? Not like I could justify it now but I like to think about them.
