What is a "sample" on the FACTORY FINDS - BLEMS & SAMPLES page?
Thanks for the heads up! Just pulled the trigger on 184 Wren 108 Ti, and I'm super stoked!
Dropped the price my on new 179 Wren 108 Ti to $450 on GS
Anybody spent any time on the Magnus's? I'm thinking about picking up pair from the sale as my new spring time park ski.
I read the blister review and I am intrigued. Seems like skinny stiff rockered ski might be the ticket for blasting through spring slush.
Yes he did and well and played...!

differences also include approx -2 (mag) vs approx -4 (jeff) wrt mount point and park detune underfoot on the mags as a stock offering.
Kartels / Jeffreys are freaking amazing corn/slush skis, so you can't really go wrong either way.
So if you prefer a more centered mount point and want the park detune -> mag, slightly more versatility -> jeff.
To muddy the water a bit more, ON3P also posted an offer on Insta a few weeks back to retune the in-stock Jeffreys to the park detune free of charge (I seem to recall) after the regular Magnus models sold out, but that was possibly before the end of season sale was launched. I have no idea if that is still on offer or is/was free of charge (sorry if my recollection is less than perfection). You could always ask them if you prefer the park detune eh - if there is an upcharge it will still probably not break the bank regardless
I am more than a bit surprised that the pair of 186 Jeffrey108Tours is still not sold yet. They have been sold out since like the second week they were on offer and are an absolute steal at 550. I would have seriously considered buying them if they were 181s![]()
I'm sure it's been talked about, but how is everyone feeling about the BG Tours? Got a pair of regular 116 BGs and am loving them, so naturally thinking about also getting the tour version. Looking at 108 as it may be more versatile, but love the 116 width. Live in SW Colorado.
I have some 108s and have been loving them. I can't stop smiling whenever I ski them they are just so much fun.
Main difference from stock BG is of course that they are lighter, but even in tracked up snow I don't think it's that noticeable. They are the perfect weight for a downhill oriented touring ski I think--not a chore to drag uphill but really give up little on the way down. I bet for most people touring boots would hold you back more than the skis. I think a lot of people are putting beefy bindings on them but I went super light since they are a dedicated soft snow BC ski for me and I'm very happy with the total weight.
Have mostly been taking them out after recent snow so don't have a ton of time in weird conditions, but someone mentioned that they make crust a lot more skiable and this is true. Like it still sucks but it's no longer a survival skiing situation.
I got the 108s because I wanted a middle width touring ski but they float way better than my fat skis, which haven't gotten any use since I bought these. I don't think the 116 is significantly heavier and maybe I'd have gotten that for low angle Colorado touring but the 108 is plenty of float for me currently.

Thanks for the insights. One question I had for the masses was the float vs crud busting ratio on either of the BG tours. My main hesitancy on pulling the trigger on a pair of them is the time I spent on the Deathwish tours. Another tour version of a ski people really like for 3D resort snow. While I had a fair amount of fun ripping around on the DWT's I ended up passing them on as I felt like they were too oriented for bad conditions (bumped out ruts, chop, and breakable crust) and often wished I had reached for something with more float in deeper or heavier maritime snow. Especially since the point of the BC is decent untracked snow.
Are the BG108 tours going to lead me down the same road? FWIW I have and love a pair of Moment Comi's to handle the handful of silly deep BC days a year. Thanks
I spent a few days on the DWT at the start of this season and unloaded them because they had remarkably poor float for their size. I have BG Tour 116's and they're orders of magnitude better in terms of float (duh), but I'm confident the 108's would be much better in soft snow as well. Similar in size, I have Woodsman Tour 108's that float way better than the DWT, even with a notably narrower waist. My Praxis BC (106 waist), which finally died last season RIP, were also better in powder than the DWT. (The dudes on the Moment thread will lose their collective shit if they see this.)
I used to tour on regular DWs in a 190. I swapped them for Steeple 108s in a 184 a few seasons ago. Steeples are same shape but heavier than current BGT 108s, but for me they outperform DWs across the board - especially in pow and soft variable, but I prefer the edge feel on firm too. I’m an outlier, but the DW never really lived up to the hype for me. Haven’t missed it once since I made the switch. YMMV of course, but the skinny billy has been awesome for me!
My primary touring ski this winter in Front Range CO was the Billy Goat Tour 116 (paired with G3 Zed and Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 130s). I love them in any 3D snow, including a a silly deep weekend in March (around a 30" storm IIRC). In fact I only skied my Protests one run this year, and that was just because I felt like it, I never felt like the BG116T lacked in float. However, I can't compare to the Deathwish.
If 3D snow performance and float is the main use for the ski, I don't understand why you'd go BG108T instead of BG116T. The weight difference is 50g per ski (in the 184). If you're really worried about that difference, get a 50g lighter binding. If you plan on skiing a good bit of firm snow or the wider ski torques your knees while skinning or something, then I can maybe see it, but for 3D snow, just get the 116.

A 187 BG110 tour is going to float significantly better than the 190 DW tour. RES does that to a ski. Same actual length and only two mm difference in the waist. The BG has a float/soft snow designed shape and camber profile which is going to more than make up the difference. Same goes for a 182BG compared to a 184 DW.
Honestly the 108 in a 184 will likely float better than the DW in a 190 and is on sale.
The wider option BG will definitely float with the best of them.

187, 110. Alright Alright Alright
Huh. I used to have steeple 116. Dug them, but they were just so heavy. The new tour core options changed that game.
I’ve had a great time on the dwt 190 as my daily touring ski. Paired with tectons/toe shims and zero G pros. I don’t think it’s the best ski for PNW touring conditions - where you’re either in pow or terrible wet heavy snow - however as a “handle all conditions” touring rig, I’ve really liked them. I’d still consider that setup as a great travel setup. They float fine. They rail firm snow. Comfy in the park in a pinch.
Can’t say I’m not intrigued by the bgt108. I am. But didn’t feel the need to chase a pair.
Fomo will probably kick in this summer.
