Ugh, its selfish and not important in the big scheme of things but I hope all of my friends and fellow mags are safe and accounted for.

Seems like the ages are 23 and 28 (that I've read). Thankfully can't be anyone we (gf and I) know based off that, but ya

This is absolutely terrible. Terrible tragedy. Thoughts and prayers for those involved and the community out there.

Hopefully the scale of this tragedy will spike backcountry education and increase awareness. A good time to maybe be more interactive with folks you see in the backcountry. Say hey, be friendly, not too intrusively try to see what the other party intends to ski and their routes, encourage extreme caution.

Most of the time when I’ve seen other people in the bc or on the skinner the interactions are minimal. Usually not much more than basic acknowledgement of the other person/group. Maybe a quick “hey”.

Just a thought. We are all human and out there for the same reason. A few minutes of pleasantries might make a big difference.

Damn. My kids age. Sometimes I hate that I introduced him to backcountry skiing. Luckily he was out with me today.

I'm not that much older than your kid. Be glad that you introduced him to this sport and how to do it safely. Not everyone is lucky enough to have that experience, even if now is not the best time to reflect on it in this sport.

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS and ASSORTED DRIVAL 20-21

Sounds like my Utah homies are accounted for. With the last couple of weeks I've had I was so happy to hear back from my friends so quickly.

Totally agree with what you are saying,
    But this is Wasangeles.

    +1

Better to be introduced to it by someone experienced and focused on safety than to go into it alone or with less experienced/more aggressive friends

Yup. As a first generation skier I'm so thankful for the friends, mentors, and experience I gained through SAR and this community.

I'm always trying to chat with other groups on the skinner. I think it weirds people out.

But I'd rather know where other parties in the same drainage are going, have they seen any red flags or checked out the snowpack, etc.

FWIW, I was skiing with the artist formerly known as The fugitive today. We groveled around through a lot of logs and stumps in order to find just a few soft turns. I'm glad we kept it very conservative today.

Vibes to anyone involved in the incident up Millcreek. That looks awful.

Thoughts are with everyone that is going to be touched by this.

How about we all agree to dial it back a few notches this season? Seems to me the mountains are sending a pretty clear message over the past few weeks all across the west coast and its time to pay heed.

I was at Brighton this afternoon with the kiddo and Lifeflight landed at the bottom of Milly at least four times plus there was an ambulance there. I figured something had happened but never imagined it would be this bad

torn between, fingers crossed it isn’t anyone in my circle, and thinking whoever it was, was in my circle anyway. never skied wilson glade but the topo makes it look like not a crazy person idea. that slide off wpp is spooky too. kept it 25 degrees and 200 miles away today. be safe friends
