FWIW, I was skiing with the artist formerly known as The fugitive today. We groveled around through a lot of logs and stumps in order to find just a few soft turns. I'm glad we kept it very conservative today.

Vibes to anyone involved in the incident up Millcreek. That looks awful.

I'm the same way, I always try to chat people up. "HOw ya doing, where ya been, what'd ya see, where ya headin?" Just makin friendly conversation, sharing beta. I also think it weirds people out sometimes though. Then again I think it's kinda weird myself when the friendly convo isn't returned, or people just grunt in passing. I think beta sharing and route planning between groups when appropriate is definitely a good practice though.

This thing today is just too terrible for words.

How about we all agree to dial it back a few notches this season? Seems to me the mountains are sending a pretty clear message over the past few weeks all across the west coast and its time to pay heed.
    Second this.

My close friend's been on both recoveries outside Silverton this year. Not her first by a long shot but she's very troubled by it all right now. She said to me in tears last time we spoke: "Sam, people need to chill." Good advice, this year and in general.

RIP. This is going to hit close to home mags. Party triggered the slide from the ridge and it caught and carried a party skinning up.

Ah shit. What a crazy rollercoaster of a thread.

I live 900 miles from the Wasatch but keep an eye on the scene here in this thread. It has been the most entertaining, most soberingly honest and introspective and tragic corner of the damn internet.

Keep on with the compassion, the lessons, the sharing of stoke and sadness and wisdom, my friends. And take care of yourselves.

I got a sinking feeling when I saw the UofU heli in BCC.... This is sad...

Despite the tragedy, days like this makes me really fucking grateful for the UAC and the community they foster here.

If you ever clear my airway and then start recording an instagram video with your phone, I'm gonna crawl out of that hole and kick you in the nuts.

Alright sorry, I'm done now. I'll be in the Wasatch in a few weeks and promise to post some fucking stoke.

agree on third video being nuts. I wouldn't be filming at that point but I appreciate it for documentation sake. Also appreciate the caption.

It's important to make sure the guy is not in shock and doesn't realize he is seriously hurt, hypothermic, etc. Not the time to make a social video to share IMO.

    Quoted for truth.

I appreciate the video in a sense, but holy fuck. Finish digging me out before you post to the gram fuck wad.

EDIT: Maybe these words are too harsh, but I feel like videos are for after you make sure everyone is actually okay and doesn't need further assistance.

UAC stating “well known people in the community.” Ive had a pit in my stomach all day today after hearing the news, not looking forward to tomorrow when the report is available.

I'm sure the sledder made sure his son was ok before shooting the short clip, and it's more viscerally impacting than words. Would these comments be similarly directed at your boarder or skier friends? These vids are icing on today's cake from hell.

Of course, and it would be in person. My wife would too. But in the big picture right now, it really doesn't matter. Thankfully the snowmobilers didn't die. Digging up your dead brother: ooofff.

The snow pack is fucked and everyone knows it. It boggles my mind that people are skiing where they are. No need to even dig a pit. Put the handle end of your pole in the snow anywhere on the north face of the compass and you can feel how shitty it is. And the thinner pack at lower elevations is super sketchy. Seems that quite a few people are skiing terrain based on past experiences not actual conditions. The few details about the accident that I’ve heard are really sobering
