    but everyone is different

was on my way to skiing yesterday drove by a number of tourons in the ditch I suck but I was in a hurry to take the edge off I just pretended I didn't have any chains or straps in my truck shrugged my shoulders at them as I passed

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

I have a fucking great gig, but reserve the right to bitch. I walk to work. My biggest gripe is going skiing or buying groceries. I skied 5 days so far and I’m fat.

That would be a good gig for the right person. Which isn't me.

May be able to swing (mostly) remote work in the future, which might free us up depending on the wife's job situation.

Good schools, good town, not TOO far from Denver (I think Durango would not work, for ex), but ideally not too close either (would prefer to be further out than Summit or Grand Counties). Ski mountain somewhere nearby, good biking nearby. That's what I'd be looking for.

heh, doesn't sound like Aspen, because we don't. But it's not impossible (living down valley).

If we both had remote jobs, I think Steamboat is the best compromise.

I love everything about Steamboat except the skiing. If there were a steep mountain anywhere within an hour of there, we'd be living there. Still trying to figure out how to make CB work.

Been saying it for years, I70 and the associated traffic is just a valve controlling the flow to the mountains. If they "Fix" it so people can get here easier, it's just going to ruin things more. You'll get to the ski area an hour faster just to wait in an hour longer lift line.

I'm skiing Eldora every week, steamboat is an upgrade! But yes, that's part of the compromise. CB is definitely higher on the list, but it would be a harder sell WRT my job.

Yeah, and Steamboat really wouldn't be too bad of a "retirement mountain" where you lap pow covered groomers off the gondola till happy hour every day.

If you are serious about that, I seriously suggest kicking the tires on the school scene. From what I hear, the rich parent mafia is pretty oppressive. Things like privately funded volleyball team trips and regular working class parents being forced to make the choice between accepting the handout, going broke, or having their kid not go.

Interesting, I've heard about the both from townie's who's kids grew up there and also upper class folk who moved their because of their ability to have their $ have influence.

That begs the question of who the fuck scheduled this job so that they’d need to be paving in December?

I sense some foreshadowing here. The vehicle demographics of the drop off line at Fraser Valley Elementary has changed drastically. Lots of Land Rovers, Audis, and Teslas this year. I’ve been calling them the Covid Crop.

Well, it's all speculative at this point but I'm sure you're both right, and I suspect we'll face that in most towns on our radar if we ever get so lucky. And we'll do our research when and if that time comes.

But fuck, I live in Boulder, I'm pretty fucking familiar with the haves and have nots dynamic (in schools and in town generally). I mean, ski racing extracts a couple thousand from us and then constantly tries to fundraise off of us, and they get it from many parents! And while they have scholarships, it's not something I'd be eligible for or comfortable accepting; I'm in the middle ground of not truly being poor but not having anywhere near the money of most people around me. I fully expect that dynamic to continue if I move to the mountains.

Left Boulder at 6:30 Fri night and sailed up to WP. Not a lick of traffic. Anti-bitch I know but nice to cruise every once in a while. Mountain is manageable too. 10 minute wait at the Gondola, other lifts empty.

I've noticed that at the Post Office - lots of Puffy Princess picking up mail general delivery. EGSD just said enrollment is down. What are the true numbers of new kids at Fraser?

aren't you the guy who says TABOR is awesome? Well, if you're wondering why we have these private companies installing toll lanes...

Well, he also argued that government in charge of road maintenance is bad and private companies in charge of road maintenance is bad in just two sentences, albeit one run-on.

I, for one, welcome our new Mad Max style I70 overlords who will do the road maintenance. The Toyota clan and Subaru syndicate will be tough to get around though.
