Question on sizing for those that are skiing BC for touring. I am 5'11" 210#. I picked up some 180's last year and have not mounted them, should I ski those or order a pair of 190's?

Completely new to skinning, so the 180's seem like the smarter choice there, but will be skiing mostly lower angle stuff around Teton Valley so worried about float (hopefully dropping a few pounds before and during the season...)

For reference, I also picked up 187 GPO's and loved them at Targhee (mounted on the line, should have went -1...) Hindsight, I should have ordered another set of GPO's with UL core and veneer for touring.

    You answered your own question.

Seriously though, sell the unmounted BCs and get some UL GPOs.
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

I know... but Keith isn’t pressing customs until next spring, so I figured I would try out some BC’s this winter and make sure I get my order in for those GPO’s next year

The BC is a great ski. I’m on the 180, same height but 180lbs. I feel like it’s enough ski for me and had it out in 1-2ft days with no issues float wise on 25-low 30 degree slopes. That being said I also have a 120 continuous rocker ski that I tour in when it’s getting really deep and I’m staying out of avy terrain.

Red7 only put 1 or 2 days on them, and only 4 days for me after I got them from him. Still in great condition, and other than the bases being dry look the same as in those pictures. I still may keep them, but wanted to see if there was interested at $415 with the wardens, $315 without. They really are an incredible ski, so versatile, but I am considering moving towards a quiver with more specialized skis. Would strongly prefer local Denver/Front Range pickup. Let me know if you have any interest, thanks!
Just a point of emphasis - these went through two people after me (the ad linked above).

One of them (@red7) was a one day meetup/trial. So don't take the copy of my ad as being a anything but a historical snapshot.

@dub2 and I have conversed, and I actually helped broker the deal to him from @red7 (the one and done fellow).

I still dream about these skis. I like the longer turn radius, but ultimately, I value maneuverability in tight spaces, so I own their little brothers (identical in every way except for being 182s).

Ultimately, these and my 182 Down CD 114s are my "cold, dead hands" skis. The fact that the 114s ski about as long as the 187 GPOs made the decision to downsize to the 182s easy.

As soon as I hit post I regretted it and changed my mind, keeping them for now and going to ski the crap out of them. What was I thinking

I’m on the line per Keith’s rec and have no complaints. But I’d wait to hear from others before drilling.

I'd guess 6' 180-190ish but not very strong or aggressive as a skier. Sounds like -1 would be the right call, he's getting them for pow skis but I bet he'll figure out they're good for most days around here.

He has skinnier skis for when it's firm but these are his first skis with any taper, and a better rocker design.

I'm happily on the line also, although haven't skied them a ton nor tried a different location.

What is the layup out of curiosity, stock or did you customize?

5'10" 170. Skied 180s and 190s on the line. Have preferred other Praxis skis between -1 and -2.

After chatting with Keith he recommended that I bump the BC's flex up to a 4, instead of the stock 3 (this was during October 2019 50% off sale and he didn't charge me extra for the customisation!). Other than that, it's the standard UL core. Surprisingly good carving ski, and very fun in chop too.

I will say (and curious to hear if other people have noticed this) that the ski perhaps oversteers a little in untracked powder. But that may just be due to my style of skiing or the bump in flex. Either ways, I love the ski.

Every time I take my BCs out I decide to detune them more, that may be what you are experiencing. I started slow on detuning because didn't want to over do it.

I'm going to round the hell out of the tip and tail tomorrow though.

That's actually a really good point. Grinch had told me to detune them when I first got them because they usually come in way too sharp from the factory. Didn't think they were unusually sharp so didn't bother, but will definitely detune the tips and tails. It would explain the oversteering in powder. Thanks for reminding me.

+1 to detuning. I had a similar issue with my MVPs, I would of called it "catchy" but probably the same thing is going on. I detuned a little, made it much better. Planning on doing more before the season starts.

    FRS Sizing Worries

    Hey Guys,

First pair of Praxis are on their way.

I ordered the FRS in a 188 and am worried that they may not be enough ski. I am 6'0 225 hoping to get back to 205. Currently ski the Wildcat in a 190 and have loved everything but the weight.

Would love to hear some thoughts from this crowd.
