I was deep inside my own head as usual, so kind of startled me. A fit cyclist prolly pass me just as fast.

So you’re saying I’ve been crushing them for over three years?

Seems to be turning into a popular tourist attraction, especially noticeable this summer. I have mixed feelings, but I guess 6 tourists riding ebikes on the frontage road/bike path is no worse that 6 tourists in a car wrecking and closing the interstate for hours.

I’m seeing them pretty frequently now, including on Loveland Pass, and inwardly hope they’re not helping fuel the resentment many CO drivers already exhibit towards cyclists, but really, how much worse can they be than the non-motorized spandex warriors?

Yup. Gravitylover even throws eebers under the bus because he has his excuse locked. I imagine he'll only be selling his new emtb brand to sick or responsible people. But i guess the throw others under the bus works for mtbers too. Mtbers cow tow to the hikers and throw the emtbers under the bus. I got mine so f everyone else! 'Merica!!

Because unfit unskilled people with $5-10k could spend it on a snowboard and suddenly go faster than fit skilled skiers?

A closer analogy would be something like splitboard vs snowmobile.

And snowmobiles shouldn't be on the skintrack.

    My point exactly.

You know what they used to call bicycles with motors? Mopeds. Mopeds shouldn’t be on the skintrack either.

Let’s lose the ebike nomenclature and call them what they really are; 5-6k mopeds.

I'm definitely more in this camp than "they're just bikes, no real difference."

However, I do see the benefit of ebikes for people with medical reasons or elderly - those who could not ride the trails if they wanted. Many of the ebike riders I've seen do not appear to be in those categories, but rather just want a fast toy, or are rich, or lazy, or some combination. I don't think it's reasonable to try enforcement via rangers or similar.

Bike industry probably loves ebikes. Expensive, proprietary, guaranteed obsolescence in short period of time, requiring purchase of entire new ebike.

On a personal level, at 58, I don’t know how many more years I’ll be able to ride passes under my own steam, or will enjoy the descents on a twitchy road bike?

If I can buy a few more years with an ebike, it will be hard to turn down. I’ve been an avid cyclist since around 1984. It will be a sad day when I have to cross pass rides off my trail map. An ebike could help postpone that for a few years until dementia takes over...

    ...oops, too late!

Road passes? No one has the slightest issue with that. Well, maybe a few tightass roadies, but their opinion doesn't mater one bit.

Serious question. Why do you come to this thread and bitch about something that you seem to have no clue about? Its not like youre in the minority so maybe the group gives you comfort to make up theories . You're getting upset about people riding bikes and when they ride their bikes it has no impact on your ride unless you make up some outlandish forecast or focus on that one incident that happened to a friend of a friends friend. It is very entertaining though. Brb going for lapz. Let your rage flow and ill check back after
