    Did you switch jobs?

Stay a little more in touch.

By all means, ride ebikes where they're legal and advocate for them to be legal in more places. But clueless idiots riding ebikes where they're not allowed is bad for everyone.

Yeah, and he has ended this argument again with that post or something to that effect, until someone revives it, Grinch gets pissy, people choose sides and so it goes.

3 cheers for Toast, may they continue to restore the peace.

I don’t have a dog in this fight but I’ve hung with Grinch for a few days and assure you that’s not the case.

I’m not fully caught up on this thread but I suspect what is happening is a slight disconnect between a not so crowded Canadian area compared to the constant trail conflicts in the US.

Plenty of ebike poaching around Tahoe... meh, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m not that concerned.

Whether you’re a hiker, biker, ebiker, equestrian, there are dicks that ruin it for everyone else. Just don’t be a dick.

Nah, it's just that ebikers are rapidly establishing themselves as the easiest people on the internet to troll. Grinch has realized this, and is doing a fairly decent job at trolling the analog bikers right back.

Oh sure theyre an ez mark and i cant resist but im coaxed on by the hypocrisy. It boils down to emtb'rs believe more riders = more trails eventually slong with healthier people vs ant emtb'rs forecasting everything getting shut down. Fine. Theres the difference of opinion, of course the pro emtb arguement makes more sense as proven by mtb growth.
Its when the hypocrites get all self righteous and try and sight the environmental differences(miniscule) or like Dan or others saying they probably couldnt fix a flat, necessitating a rescue(if theyre so worried they should be protesting bike parks with all the people fucking themselves up) or the douchnozzles like redbitcher thinking he has more right to be on the trail than lazy people or the grasp of the narrative that they wear jeans and no helmets. Theyll try any false narrative despite the fact that there is not an increased % of incidents between user groups on trails that isnt a result of overcrowding. Theyll try anything. Your rights dont trump anyone elses. 3 or 4 years from now theyll all still be whining little bitches and ill have the same amount of quality emtb riding in. Couldnt give a fuck about your trails. All good in the hood here. Theyre not going anywhere though so it should be fun watching the retro grouchs continued meltdown.

But I don't see why I wouldn't want one for local trails, especially anything sub 20 miles.

But I think battery tech isn't there yet for that kind of mileage.
Rocky Mountain came out with a 330w auxiliary battery that attaches to the 630w, that gets close.

Recognizing that those downsides and pitfalls, both current and hypothetical, actually exist does not make me a "hater."

There's also plenty of ebikers who are dicks. I got passed by two highly aggro ebikers Saturday morning while climbing up a very popular local trail (that is ebike legal). I had passed a gal and gotten about 50 yards ahead of her when I heard, "DING DING...DING DING DING DING DING DING." Then I hear her say "I hear you, I'm trying to get to a spot to pull over." Palpable exasperation in her voice.

I know what's coming now, so I start keeping an eye over my shoulder. I'm already halfway pulled over as they get close, but the lead guy still gets on the bell hard, "DING DING DING DING DING DING." No "Thanks," friendly wave, nothing. I just stayed quiet and shook my head. A ways farther up I passed another guy who said he got the same treatment. Way to live up to the stereotype, guys. I've been passed on this trail by scores of dirt roadies riding 20-lb carbon hardtails and not one of them has ever been this aggro.

I can't help but wonder how many of these people know how to fix a flat tire, repair a broken chain, etc.? Or are physically prepared for a miles-long walk out if it came to that?
    Thanks. See below.

This is what it really comes down to. It's not the machine, acoustic or e-, it's the user. The entitled hordes are making things messy from both sides but I'm afraid moreso from the e- side. The rapid growth in trail users this year is enhancing the problem and may bring things to a head more quickly in many areas, we'll see how that turns out.

I don't know how to embed a reddit video, but I found the one thing that'll unite anti e bikers and pro e bikers and it's hating this guy:

Yeah, that's why I kept my mouth shut Saturday. Nothing to be gained telling those guys to fuck off even though they deserved it. Also, I appreciate that you acknowledge some basic reality--if people who never would have tried MTBing get into the sport because ebikes make going uphill easy, then by definition ebikes make overcrowding worse than it would be without them.

Wife has a Trek Superfly ebike. We share it as a car replacement to get groceries, run errands etc. It's got slicks and racks and panniers.

For off-road use I've used to transport a chainsaw and some tools up a gravel road for trailwork. It's not at all good for trails but it cuts out loads to time hiking in. We also brought in on a kootenays road trip. We were camping and figured we could use it to run into towns to get groceries etc. But it was hot (30deg which is hot for Canada) so we would drive up forest service roads and leave the truck and bike down). Then we would retrieve the truck by way of ebike going up the gravel road. It was a good way of cutting back on effort so we could ride 9 days in a row without blowing up.

It's Brown County State Park, IN. It's actually really nice, but abvioulsy has it's share of assholes now.

I don't really see many people poach in the RFV.

Should it have irked me, getting passed by an e-bike doing 3-4X my speed on the bike path uphill between Georgetown and Silver Plume Saturday?

Not like you’re going to ride an ebike on I-70, but a bike path doesn’t seem like the right venue for a motorized vehicle either.

Depends. If he gave you a wide berth and didn't doing anything sketchy then no big deal. If he buzzed by you six inches away and was weaving through moms with strollers and dog walkers at 20+ mph then that's a different story.

They’ve been legal on non motorized bike paths, in Colorado, for over three years.
