Next up is front brakes on the Forester then the tank vent solenoid and muffler on the Durango. I still can't figure out how to get the hood open on the 06 Outback so it's gonna sit for a while longer. I need to work some now that I'm back to mostly healthy and can do 10 hour days in the car so hopefully these things that need to get done don't bite me in the ass if I leave them for a bit.

Man you must be happy to have that bitch behind you. Forester brakes will be a walk in the park by comparison. Remember silicone grease and nothing else for the slide pins.

wow you hammered that fucking thing, i see it now.

on the outback, just hack up the grill so you can get in the hood latch mechanism with some screwdrivers. buy some home depot alum grate and spray paint it black, done.

    Like this idea!

But If you really want a stock grille you could probably find one st the junk yard for $50. Simple install for the 06 outback as in this video https://youtu.be/5L06X36DfMg.

Not under the hood but I'll put this here. Doing 60 on a busy mountain two lane I hear a hollow rubber kathoink noise from the right rear tire. Pull over in 1/4 mile when it's safe and tire is soft. Then went to flat. Changed to the doughnut and there was no sign of a nail or cut. When the guy at the tire chainstore takes the tire off of the rim, this 5 inch bolt was inside. Painted inside of the rim showed a scratch. Air pressure sensor was not dinged. 200 miles later the repair is still holding air.

my next suggestion would have involved the largest pipe wrench available at home depot and an 8 ft piece of schedule 80 to go over it.

dont let it get to you though, weve all paid somebody to come and work on our vehicles in the driveway, even if it was windshield or glass replacement haha

Wrenchin... Adventures under the hood... Put em here.

Finally got my land cruiser back from the body shop last night.

I didn’t figure it out until after they closed, but my radio and antenna don’t work. The fuse also has the cigarette lighter, which gets power. I’m wondering if the body shop disconnected something when they pulled the front fender. Anybody have some ideas?

The shop worked with me, where I brought in all parts found via ih8mud or junk yard and they did the install, they also pulled out the front panels a bit. Instead of a new/used OEM bumper, I got a tjm bumper. I installed it today. Took longer than I thought.

Helped a buddy troubleshoot his brake problems on his 78 bronco. Had done multiple bleeds and other checks. Said fuck it and pulled the brake booster(new) and master cylinder(new) and pulled out brake pedal assembly to check bushings. Turns out he (very lightly) had overtightened a nut on one pivots. Wrenching is fun(?). Also got my wife's 89 4runner back running from winter. New battery and fuel issue. Looking forward to beating the living shit outta that long travel and 5.29 gears...

    nice^^^

my subi did the opposite this week. the oil-leaky head gasket is now also leaking coolant. along with the other mechanical issues, some that i listed upthread, we're gonna part ways. anybody have advice on how to sell (or even figure out a starting prices for) a clunker like this? when i coax it into drive, it'll go, but may not for much longer.

in other news, i'm getting into mild teenager-level car electronics. have the center dash apart and passenger seat out of my land cruiser, multimeter, and some internet found wiring diagrams figuring out why the stereo isn't working. haven't done it since i was a teen and re-learning in that 30 minutes of when i stop working for the evening and have dinner with the family. i'm slow.

    cheers

I had 5.38's in my old Willys and with a Muncie 4 speed, crazy low geared NP transfer case and 3.5" of lift with Softride springs and Rancho's that thing would climb trees and crazy steep rock walls. It weighed well under 3k pounds and had a built Dauntless V6 so it would scream right up to about 45-50 and that was it. It killed it going downhill with a tailwind though, 60 was attainable Click image for larger version.

Been Workin on the bimmer some more.washed her up, and put hub centric rings in the wheels as the hub bore on the wheels is slightly large. Than the actual hub. Car was a bit of a hit at the park City car club meet last night. People like manual V8 rwd sedans. Who knew.
Then today, these H&R sport springs showed up. Did the fronts, and was pleasantly surprised to find nice Bilstein sport shocks and what look like new mounts already installed. Unfortunately out back there are stock boge shocks (that still work pretty well) that will need to go in favor of some matching Bilstein sports. So rears will happen another day.

Went through that with my 62. Not fun, especially after the PO had done a motor conversion so no wires were accurate.

Wrenchin... Adventures under the hood... Put em here.

Still scratching my head and trying to learn. After spending more time on the radio head unit and amp connectors, I think the PO has it all at stock, which does not explain to me why he had a 20a fuse instead of 15a at the kick panel fuse for the cig lighter/audio system. Searching the mud forum isn’t providing insight.

I’m getting 12v at all the right pins on the stereo amp and radio connectors, but still no power to the radio. I’m testing with ground on the amp ground to the frame and the ground connectors in the connectors. The “s gnd” pin and hot pin at the head unit connector is only giving me about 6v. Is that supposed to be correct? I think the problem is the radio/head unit.

Is there anything else to check/diagnosis?
