Fuck the Yankees but Mariano was awesome.

There are few players in sports that can pull off what he did with one pitch. In the sense that everyone knew what was coming, every time, and he still made em look stupid. Few pitchers ever have had that capability, and never for more than a season or two. Meanwhile Mariano is like 40 and still sending cutters and killing it.

I'm happy for all these guys. Edgar was awesome and set a standard at DH, Mussina was really unappreciated during a hitters era, and Halladay was a dominant pitcher for a long time that passed away early. But really, it's cool to see positions like DH and relieve judged against their peers and not subjected to a purity test via the fifties.

Maybe I'll finally make it to cooperstown for the ceremony, been meaning to get to Ommegang for a really long time too.

Yeah wouldnt be right not to have the best hitters and pitchers in the HOF, I mean unless they are suspected of Steroid use, or gambled on baseball......

Point taken but HOF is for the best that ever played:
    Rank Player Hits
    1 Pete Rose 4,256
    2 Ty Cobb †[b] 4,191
    3 Hank Aaron † 3,771
    4 Stan Musial † 3,630
    5 Tris Speaker † 3,514
    6 Derek Jeter 3,465
    7 Honus Wagner † 3,430
    8 Carl Yastrzemski † 3,419
    9 Paul Molitor † 3,319
    10 Eddie Collins † 3,314
    11 Willie Mays † 3,283
    12 Eddie Murray † 3,255
    13 Nap Lajoie † 3,252
    14 Cal Ripken, Jr. † 3,184
    15 Adrián Beltré 3,166
    16 George Brett † 3,154
    17 Paul Waner † 3,152
    18 Robin Yount † 3,142
    19 Tony Gwynn † 3,141
    20 Alex Rodriguez 3,115
    21 Dave Winfield † 3,110
    22 Ichiro Suzuki 3,089
    23 Albert Pujols (114) 3,082
    24 Cap Anson †[c] 3,081
    25 Craig Biggio † 3,060

Thats the 25 best hitters ever based on hits ( weird way to judge, but stay with me) , ALL are either in, or shortly will be in ( AROD will be debated, but we will see) the HOF should be all the best players. Put on his plaque he was banned for betting but to not have him in there is incomplete.

Now lets move on to HRs.....

Living in the PNW as I do now, Ed-Gaaaarrrr apparently was way overdue. You all think he deserves it? I think the bar is getting lower overall.

I do think the bar has been moved. It's probably because they got worried about my plan to open The Hall of Pretty Good down in Oneonta. We would be right there off I-88, we would've hurt their business model.

my Rose & Roid comments led astray from the fact that I also could not agree more.

Edgars inclusion likely means your boy Big Pappi likely moves on from your hall to the original

I saw Sandy Koufax pitch, and Garvey and Cey in the minors in Bakersfield. Listened to Vin and Jerry Dogget on the transistor radio. Only quit liking the Dodgers when that asshole Murdoch bought them from the O'Malleys. So don't think too hard.

Yeah, and then they sold it to that other asshole McCourt, who gutted the team for his own bank account, and by that time they were to me like Fredo was to Michael.

    agree.

Grew up a Mets fan, so my second favorite team in all of baseball is whoever is playing the Yankees. But damn, hard to not be impressed as fuck with Mariano.

In 140+ innings of postseason ball -- the equivalent of 20 solid starts -- he had a .70 ERA. Redonkulous. Pure greatness, the likes of which we may never see again.

lots of people should have been. Mo shouldn't have been the first, nor should Junior have been the first. But it is what it is.

It has probably been said here- make the ballots not anonymous. That will hopefully end the 50s purity testing

I think it's kind of cool that Edgar went in with Mariano. The irony of giving the first unanimous vote to Rivera while the only hitter he feared stayed out would have been more typical of the voters, though, so more change seems likely to me.

Jackie (or maybe Ruth) should've been the first, but at least that bullshit is out of the way.
