Manny impressed me at times with his shortstop play, but was mediocre at other times. I hear that he's a better third baseman.

    OFFICIAL 2018 MLB THREAD

Hit Fenway this morning for the pre-parade in park celebration. Good times to see the players talk about the season. Cora too. Biking from Fenway to Downtown was a bit nuts. Had to bike by the garden to get around the barricades. Entire parade route is Mobbed w and average age of ~20.

huh? Red Sox were 3-4 in the regular season against the Astros. Add in the 4-1 ALCS series win if you want, and it's 7-5 in favor of the Sox, not 8-4. If you want to include a few head to head games as a measure of the overall "better team", that's fucking stupid. It's as stupid as arguing that the Astros are better because they won 3 more games than the Yankees, and advanced to the ALCS, arguments I wouldn't bother making and are at least as valid as yours.

My post was in jest, though I do happen to think the Astros are better (I'm contractually obligated to think the Yankees suck). But if you're really going to argue otherwise, you're going to have to bring something better than bad math and a few head to head games out of a long season/postseason.

Someone has been talking to my favourite Dodger fan with the funny last name that used to post here.
I disagree, considering what Roberts did this year with the injuries, etc he had, I want him back.

Bad math and small sample size aside, the games played still count (unlike WAR, pythag, rotoworld, popular vote, etc). And, with the Yankees under HalCap, I give them pretty good odds of them beating the Astros again next year.

The Sox were also almost faced with a decisive game 5 in Boston whereas the Astros never even put a scare in them, no matter how much I shouted at the screen for them to beat those guys.

The AL east has been the most competitive division for the past 25 years (with 9 world champions) and I don't see why it would change overnight.

If you want to see suck though, check out the perennial basement dwelling NY Mets. That team fucking blows and will continue to blow until they get new ownership, which is never.

Cubs and Dodgers were kinda in the same boat this year. Neither team really looked like champion material. Neither team had a solid grip on their division. Both teams had to go big with rent-a-players to patch up big holes. Their engines rarely had all the cylinders firing and they'd go from looking great one week to just sputtering along the next.
I agree with this in many ways but, why the fuck is your yardstick the Cubs? they won a WS recently, yes, but the last 10 years of the NLCS:

    2008 Philadelphia Phillies 92–70 4 1 Los Angeles Dodgers 84–78
    2009 Philadelphia Phillies 93–69 4 1 Los Angeles Dodgers 95–67
    2010 San Francisco Giants 92–70 4 2 Philadelphia Phillies 97–65
    2011 St. Louis Cardinals 90–72 4 2 Milwaukee Brewers 96–66
    2012 San Francisco Giants 94–68 4 3 St. Louis Cardinals 88–74
    2013 St. Louis Cardinals 97–65 4 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 92–70
    2014 San Francisco Giants 88–74 4 1 St. Louis Cardinals 90–72
    2015 New York Mets 90–72 4 0 Chicago Cubs 97–65
    2016 Chicago Cubs 103–58 4 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 91–71
    2017 Los Angeles Dodgers 104–58 4 1 Chicago Cubs 92–70
    2018 Los Angeles Dodgers 92–71 4 3 Milwaukee Brewers

Cubs have only been competitive the last 4 years, and the Dodgers have been better than them the last 2. Last years Dodgers team was in many ways better than the Cubs WS team.

And then there's the crazy. Don't forget, this is the crybaby who threw a bat at an opposing player. He's a piece of shit, folks. He dishes it out but he can't take it. Dirty play all the time but, if a fastball gets anywhere near him, he thinks he's justified when he goes nuts.

Because I'm not waving dick about how great either team has been over the last 10 years? I'm only talking about the 2018 Dodgers which, because I watch Cubs, I saw them play 7 in the regular season series against a so-so Cubs team and lose 4-3. Not exactly a major confidence builder, IMHO, given the state of Cubs pitching this season. C'mon, Man! It was a mediocre year for the NL and this Dodgers team didn't stand out, not even in its own division. I was not impressed. The 2018 Dodgers required an 18 inning home game with a massive error on the part of the Red Sox to avoid getting swept. That's not impressive. This series will be remembered for one thing, that record game. The 2018 Dodgers will soon be forgotten. This was not even close to a memorable second place team like the 2014 Royals or 2016 Indians. Its not like I'm saying this to make the Cubs look better than they were. Frankly, the Cubs pitching staff gives me no confidence for 2019 with a powerful team like the Brew Crew in the NL Central. Definitely, the Dodgers have an easier road back to the NLCS than the Cubs (because the Cubs management was dumb enough to sign a garbage pitcher from that "awesome" 2017 Dodgers roster).

Last years Dodgers team was in many ways better than the Cubs WS team.
2016 Cubs: 103 wins, +270 run diff, got the ring
2017 Dodgers: 104 wins, +219 run diff, no ring.

Geez, talk about blatant homerism. They got one more win and nothing else that mattered.

The surgery was to fix a congenital problem. I don't thinks he's been on the DL since.

FIFY. In all fairness to Bubble Boy, he wrecked a knee trying to sprint to first base. A "congenital problem" for which he left the field on a stretcher. If you want Bubble Boy for the Yankees, be my guest. Suits me fine. If he's back in the AL, I'll see less of the shitbird.

How can you even look at that guy's face -never mind his hair- and want him on your team? That contemptuous sneer isn't for the opponent, it's for everything. His team, the other team, the city he's playing in, the fans, the game, life itself. I am not a fan, if that's not clear.

You are a Cubs fan, and watch the Cubs. Something I couldnt deduce from being from Victor Idaho. If you had said I watch the Cubs, or anything else it wouldnt have stuck with me for days, but them being the Yardstick for the NL pushed a button.
I am still piecing together my shattered glass cage of emotion, bear with me. And again, I agree wit much of what you said.

Yeah I know him and Pearce are tight, I think Pearce was in MM's wedding or something, and Pearce seems aight, so maybe I'm just completely wrong. It has happened before.

You funny guy. Ok, Sox spent the most this year. How about all those other recent years (2000's)?

I think he was referencing the media who wrote them off after losing one game.

Then did the same thing with Houston.
