I'm guessing your itinerary is non-flexible but it seems a bit weird. Only one day skiing at the hut with a couple hour skin in & out? Stay in Ouray and drive over Red everyday to ski Purg? Why not stay in Silverton? Why not ski Silverton?

Anyways. Sounds awesome but it just seems like skiing might not be maximized.
I agree -- totally not ideal travel/ski ratio. Especially when you add my flight to/from Baltimore.

But this is mainly because I promised my brother we'd do a hut trip this year. He was supposed to come with us to Fairy Meadows in April but can't get into Canada -- something we forgot about when we surprised him with it as a Christmas present. Scrambled to find something as a consolation prize, and best we could find was this one night at the Opus Hut (needed room for all 3 of us that also worked for my wife and I's work schedules). Wife asked to stay in Ouray afterwards cuz she's always wanted to stay there -- small thing for me to give considering she's packing all my stuff up and doing the majority of the planning. We would love to ski Silverton, but can't really afford the $180*2 = $360/day guided rates. Might just tour Red Mtn Pass or similar and not ski Purg ... if my legs/lungs can handle 4 days of touring in a row.

I guess I'd see I I could stay in Silverton Friday night. They you could ski Purg on Saturday, drive to Ouray, get your hot springs on, ice climb Sunday and then drive back to D town via Junction.

Good thoughts, thanks. I'll look into it.

I've done plenty of Smokey and the Bandit style missions to the San Juans including driving Red in truly hair ball conditions. Nowadays, I find it a lot more enjoyable to make the drive home though the high desert in the day. It really helps me with relaxation.

Beautiful day up at the Basin. They were running Pali super slow and I'm pretty sure it was going to shut down any minute. Nice to get out and "Use the Force" to get down some bump runs by skiing the soft troughs and jumping the boilerplate tops. Trees were nice with lots of pinecones on the snow to enhance depth perception. Character building day for sure.

Got one run on Chair 6 (1, 4, 9, 8, Ptarmigan all closed) off of chair 2 before they shut 6 down at the LUV. Glad they replaced chair one with the technological marvel that auto slows at 40mph and has a kill switch at 50mph + (according to liftie).

I know it was windy but the snow was surprisingly decent on my one run. Loveland may be kind of fun tomorrow.
You should have been here yesterday!

What’s the official uphill bootlicking policy there on wind shut down days?

Jeebus, we got the occasional wind gust in CB, but nothing like that. Today topped anything we ever had last year, which is mostly an indication of how horrible last year was, but still, today was really good.

Before the Clemson Circle Jerk starts, you might want to check the weather forecast boys.
