Heavy snow separates the good skiers from the weak beaters. Truth. Anyone can ski 3% pow.

I don't know. A big part of why I chose the Ikon is the California resorts on it are the ones that open earliest and stay open longest. In Tahoe Ikon passholders will have a much longer season than EPIC passholders. Even in the best snow years Tahoe's vail resorts closed in April. It seems as though Vail's business model is built around people not using their product. So I guess the answer to your question is 'Epic will be the first to do that'.

Canadian Rockies. Pretty much all of the major hills are included as 5/7 days on either Epic or Ikon. There is a pass for those resorts but it's $2200CAD ($1670USD) pre season. So all the gangbanging of being on Epic or Ikon without the cheap local season pass

I like options to be honest. My kids have a late spring break this year. Second to last week of April. Most if not all resorts in utah with the exception of Snowbird and maybe Alta weekends will be closed, so snow willing, we will be trying Mammoth for a change. So I suppose for once in my life I agree with Benny. Options are good, chasing snow is even better. I realize I'm the exception because I will hop a plane for powder weekend within reason. I paid for a Solitude pass and now have all these options. I'm just going to enjoy this for now until it all crashes down like a a mega sized american ski company.

    Ikon Pass

With all of these new options that have sprung up since April can they crank the price next spring? Or will they make a third pass option like a Colorado local pass where you get Copper, WP, Eldora and 5 days at Steamboat and that’s it for cheaper?

Just occurred to me...marketing opportunity for Ikon/Epic. Since flying seems to be tied to the allure of the pass. Get an airline partner, free bags if you give your pass number at booking. Airline pays for the chance to be preferred partner, gets customers in exchange.

There are young, ambitious young people working on this, I'm sure, but first rule, at the moment, is to wait for the data from this upcoming season.

That explains the amount of mono boards I saw the first time I visited Tahoe. Later to become snowboards, of course.

I'm not sure that would work.

Airlines aren't hurting for customers after consolidation in recent years. They have regional monopolies out of most major cities and own certain routes. Want to fly out of Denver, SFO, EWR, IAD or IAH? You're better off by far flying United/Star Alliance. Want to fly out of ATL, Detroirt or MSP? Delta. Out of DFW, PHL, Phoenix or Miami? American.

In addition, they make most of their money off of charging for bags, seats, etc. Giving free bags to ski bums isn't going to drive the needle for them. The rich skiers already get free bags because they spend enough money annually on their preferred airline to have status.

Look, it's simple. Really. If you have all week to ski, what day do you save for laundry and shit. Duh.

That would be nice, but, airfare is the problem. Add that, and Benny says adios.

Worked here. First season pass I've bought since the '93/'94 season.

I think it will definitely boost sales... but I question how much use most new buyers will get out of it... especially once they see the Saturday lift lines at Squaw!

i'm with tippster. i bought a mountain collective for two years and used it one. the second was so good here i spent the month on the eastside instead. before that it was the 90's that i paid for a pass though i had one every year up until 2013. and i still get over 100 days without a pass, but this year i'm excited about getting back into resort skiing shape along with touring shape. going for only a few days a year at a resort i get worked when i do.

to take the airline thing further
airline - credit card - points for miles and vert skied. IKard please

edit to add. an Ikonic shitshow does at least sound a bit interesting

There's been murmurs about a Delta direct from Seattle to Aspen over the last year. Maybe this Crystal deal could help push that over the edge for winter service? If not soon, it sounds like Alaska is interested in Aspen once the airport is expanded and there is desk space for another carrier. It would make me very happy as the 206 is my homeland; wouldn't mind getting up to Crystal either.

Based on a number of recent conversations, I think a lot of Coloradans will be headed to Jackson and Big Sky with the Ikon.

Spent last season at Jackson and almost every gondola ride there were people who had originally booked trips to SLC, Telluride, Aspen, etc. but rerouted to Jackson because it was the most southern area with real snow. A lot of first-timers that said they were definitely coming back. Combine that with the IKON pass that also gives you days at Big Sky and it's probably going to be crowded at Jackson again even if CO and UT have good snow.

I think the Cottonwoods are going to be swamped too. Add avalanche mitigation and you have an I70-like shitshow.

I don't think so. If it snows in Utah and south, they'll just stay put. Last year was awful. Who knows, could be the opposite. Options.

I also met bunch of euros and aussies. I think these passes draw people from overseas to plan a trip to the states.
