Hell...this type of news just keeps my brain swarming with spur of the moment ideas. I'm personally more inclined to run up to PNW than Utah for that maritime snowpack that sticks to everything. My crystal ball says at least one trip to Alpy is in my future for the upcoming season. Pretty sure a SF to Seattle day trip isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
Niseko now added. Shit, all I have to do is win the lottery and I'd be gone all season.
I'm headed to Hokkaido in January... and even with the free day, will likely still pass on Niseko. If I wanted to ski with a bunch of Aussies I'd just go to Whistler. ;-) But cool to have the option.
For the life of me, I cannot find a list/breakdown of how many days are available at each destination. The IKON website is clear as mud IMHO.
5 days on the ikon base, 7 on the ikon is my understanding
Yeah, but certain mountains are full year, like Copper, even on base.
True, I guess I meant in general. 11 mountains unrestricted, 4 of those with blackouts (mammoth, june, solitude, and squaw)

Click on where it says Destination Access Details in the upper right. Took me awhile to find it myself.
Shitty graphics, but this is the best comparison: https://www.ikonpass.com/en/compare-the-ikon-passes
I'm overjoyed at the Sugarloaf days. Skied there for the first time last year in a storm, and was pretty happy with the place. They just opened a new cat skiing area the day after we left, that looks awesome.
We were surprised at how quickly that place got cut up during that Wednesday/Thursday event. We drove in from Vermont, which took forever through nowhere (Jesus, the ice heaves already), so, I was mistaken in thinking that the powder day we woke up to would be all ours. Not so. Lots of people woke up early to get some from Portland and maybe even Boston. They were gone by noon, but, we learned a lesson.
I hope for your sake you get them as well. Nothing is better than a mid-week dump with no one around at Solitude. Only other thing thats better is a socked in day at Alta mid-week. For some reason I love that damn wildcat chair when the visibility is socked in. Who am i kidding, any mid-week dump in the Wasatch is awesome. Except maybe at Park City. That place sucks. Always has.
It is just a retarded amount of skiing for the money. Does anyone actually know what the revenue sharing arrangement is with the non-Alterra resorts? Does Alterra pay the other resorts per skier day i.e. $10/skier day? Do they split some percentage of gross pass sales? Is it separately negotiated i.e. Jackson gets more per day than Snowshoe?
Obviously, the non-Alterra resorts benefit when you spend money on everything besides tickets. But it seems to me that Alterra benefits when you actually don't go to the non-Alterra resorts. I think this is about how the "average skier" behaves. They make grand plans and talk a big came about ski season and then just never go.
I don't think collectively people will ski more days, they will just have more and better options. Based on the conditions, the good days could be busier at the favored locations.
Is free parking and bag lunch friendly parking all but done?
They are teasing more, we'll see what else they have up their sleeves.
Locally, I still don't think it moves the masses over from Epic, especially with the CB addition and Telluride days.
I guess it's all good, but it does further devalue lift tickets to the non Ikon/Epic hills.
