Stopped in to talk to a bike dealer. Just to talk. He was thinking the retailers and manufacturers are going to eat the 25% tariffs. Ha! And that the trail behind my house was not going to allow ebikes. I told him I didn't care. He said the Forest Rangers would be policing. I laughed a little more and said I didn't care.

No ebikes allowed in Orange County Parks

For you Orange County/Southern California riders, just saw this today:

Well, it happened. Saw a rental E-bike, 6 miles into the Colorado Trail up Searle pass. At first we were like "Damn! That old guy is killing it through that rock section!" Then we were like "Oh, he's on an E-bike". Really strange to see. Dude was wearing jeans and no helmet. Oh well, didn't ruin my day.

lol... clearly this is more than anecdotal and the beginning of a trend. E-bike companies are going to have to change their advertising to better accommodate the preferences of their target consumers.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone at a ski resort in jeans and no helmet so I can point out that he's winter e-biking.

Dude was wearing wire rimmed glasses and they weren't even fogging! Can't say I wasn't jealous after grinding up 8 miles of steep, rocky, rooty stuff to above treeline. E-bike was sounding pretty good about then.

I found something worse than an e-bike, but great for hitting the trails in jeans.

    $3200 for a 36 and dpx2. A little less for a 34.

Saw a kid riding up the road to Mount Fernie rec area this weekend on an e-bike. At first I was amazed that he didn't seem to be slowing down when the pavement started to climb, and then I realized he must have been on an e-bike (later confirmed) when I was having trouble catching him in my F150.

I have a 6yo that loves to ride but the climbs are hard for him. I think he would be stoked if he could keep up with mom and dad a bit easier, and I love the idea of using it as a way to get him exposed to some fun trails. I'm also worried that it would be hard to transition back to a normal bike...

I hope kid ebikes do not become a thing. You ride up the hill so you can ride down the hill. Thats a big life lesson.

Plus to get the kid to the point that they can and will climb a decent amount takes time on the bike that will hopefully help prevent idiot parents bringing kids where they want to ride rather than to a safe place for kids at their skill level to ride...

I liked how he said that ebikes are A DIFFERENT THING than mountain bikes. IE not the same.

Yeah, I agree with both points. I think I'd look at getting one for him and in time he'll be strong enough to not need the assist. And since he has solid parents I wouldn't worry about him needing/wanting the electric until he's on the other end of the spectrum.

Unless the bike is literally going to blow me, I never want to have to charge the fucking thing to go on a ride. Battery life regresses over time.

Stealing this gem of a response from Facebook: "I’ve got Di2 shifting my E-bike equipped with live valve. I can’t ride this evening though because I’m waiting for my bike to finish syncing with iTunes."

I assume LiveValve will be like the Di2 battery that only needs to be charged every couple months. I'm sure as shit not buying it, but I'd love to read a toast or kidwoo review.

So, unless you ride a MTB you will never get that lesson? haha.

I'm waiting for the day that a class 1 e-bike becomes comparably expensive and heavy as a pedal bike in the same ride-category. I feel as though i will be waiting a long, long time haha.

Sort of like how hardtails are different. Except ebikes don’t suck
