Just a few years ago there was a big story when a cop was emailing while driving, veered in to the bicycle lane and killed someone. No charges. There are way too many stories.

Sending that email saved 4 lives, it was worth the loss of the 1 cyclist.

East Pittsburgh cop who shot Antwon Rose charged. I bet the jury lets him off. We have police behaving badly because citizens are compliant and complicit.

You think so? Seems the tide might be shifting just a bit.
Regardless of guilt, that cop shot the kid in the back for simply running away.
I don't think we are going to accept lethal force for running It did not seem he even said stop. Soon as the kid dashed he drew and fired, as if in a war zone. "As they seem to be getting trained."

But mostly I think its a bunch of wannabe commandos now with that are to scared to join the Marines and want to get their jollies off roughing up mostly passive citizens.

There was also a study like 20 years ago that put a bunch of college kids in the roles of jailors and prisoners. Even stand up kids were found to eventually abuse the power. There is a certain mind fucking that goes on when you have no repercussions. I don't know how you get around it when juries, aka not cops, give them the benefit of the doubt.
I saw a good utube video of an ex prison sheriff/street smart/self defense expert/black dude who says the reason cops are shooting everyone is because we are hiring pussies who have never even been in a 8th grade fist fight, and only get 6 weeks of training. When they serve their two yrs in jail, they then hit the streets and resort to deadly force because they have no other ability to handle violence. I wish I could remember his name, but he spoke the truth.

Not trying to pick on your statement, but, it seems a bit naive.

There was a story from Oregon where some dude was minding his own business, walking down the street and whittling a piece of wood. Cop rolls up, freaks out and murders the guy. I thought for sure something was going to happen to that cop. I was naive.

I think the training reflects police depts belief that the liability is less w shoot first type behavior than any alternatives de-escalation or minimal force. I read somewhere that when LA provided choke holds, cops moved on to beat downs to get compliance, and when Rodney's beat down made that type of compliance control untenable, the training that resulted
was go direct to the fire arm for any perceived threat.

That would be hilarious if it weren't so sad and outrageous--especially the part where all 10 (?) cops advance on the dead guy with guns drawn. But at least the guy died doing what he loved. Fuck.

I cannot believe what pussies these cops are. The whittler is laying there dead, and they are advancing in a swat formation, one behind the other. I’m glad their basic breaching protocol got to be used, and they were all safe to go home to their families after a long day they n the trenches

I have a retired cop in my family. I grew up around them. They were tough but decent people, as were all the cop friends I met.

    I have watched the change.

    I am holding out hope.
We have to have police we can trust to be fair and keep us safe.

The prosecuting attorney who didn't bring charges against the officer who shot the whittler is being challenged this year. I don't know anything about either candidate but King County residents have another option.

    WOW

    “felony ethnic intimidation”

Trooper James Welsh of the state police charged Seneca Anthony Payne, a 39-year-old Bucks County man, with misdemeanor ethnic intimidation. Payne allegedly called an officer a “Gandhi motherfucker” during a welfare check at Payne’s home.

    first-degree felony ethnic intimidation

Uh, have you been following SCOTUS lately? I wouldn't count on the right of free speech unless you're a corporation or an anti-abortionist. OTOH I wonder if they could arrest Trump if he makes any speeches in Pennsylvania. Ethnic intimidation if I ever heard it.

Re the Seattle shooting--maybe the Cub Scouts should stop giving merit badges for whittling.

I dont often click this thread because how fucking angry I get. Fuck the mother fucking police. The whole fucking nations police force needs to be gotten away with completely and reconstructed from the ground up. Im sick and tired of immune power hungry lying sack shits.and dont get me started on the justice system. Bullshit relationships with the police, the prison system, etc where the truth does no matter. Its about convictions unless you are a cop or have a relationship with the da. There is no innocent until proven guilty. Its all a shame. Fucking plea deals to. Yeah leta make someone say they are guilty because they are most likely going to lose a trial even when innocent.

So they charged him with homicide? Jesus this is going to be like Philly where they overcharge.

Police guys lawyer is claiming the windows of the car they ran from were shot out, matched the description by witnesses of the vehicle that had said windows shot out, within 1 mile and 11 minutes of said shooting. If that is true this cop walks, despite the fact they were running away and this cop is clearly deranged, this is going to be another sad story of acquittal I fear.

I mean if that Seattle cop walked I don't know what it takes to convince a jury otherwise.

JACKSON — Jackson police officers are investigating an incident involving an off-duty Colorado officer who pulled her gun on a teen who was running to a bus stop.

The unusual incident happened just before noon Friday near the corner of Snow King Avenue and Flat Creek Drive.

After receiving a report of a possible armed robbery, multiple officers rushed to the scene where a woman was holding a young man on the ground at gunpoint.

“She was driving by and heard a loud noise and thought something was suspicious and got out to check it out,” Jackson Police Lt. Roger Schultz said.

“Then she saw someone running from the scene, and she believed a crime was taking place and intervened and called law enforcement. She held who she believed to be a suspect of a crime until we arrived.”
ut after questioning the people involved and other witnesses, officers decided the whole thing was a misunderstanding and that the woman, who happens to be an off-duty police officer from Colorado, may have overreacted.

The 17-year-old said he was running from his house to the bus stop after forgetting his phone charger, reports state.

“This kid wasn’t actually committing a crime,” Schultz said.

Now police are trying to decide if the 31-year-old off-duty cop overstepped her bounds enough to be charged with a crime.
“Wyoming law allows for a citizen’s arrest but only under limited circumstances,” Schultz said.
The woman’s authority to arrest people in Colorado doesn’t give her the right to act as an officer in Wyoming, Schultz said, unless a felony is committed in her presence or if death is likely.

“If I go to Cheyenne, I have no authority there to contact someone for theft or burglary or speeding,” Schultz said.
“When you leave your jurisdiction or state, you need to act as a private citizen,” he said.
Another exception is if an officer is specially deputized by the sheriff’s office where their assistance is requested.
It’s believed the off-duty Colorado officer was here vacationing.

She hasn’t been charged with a crime.
“We’ve already interviewed and released her,” Schultz said. “We don’t feel like she’s a threat to the public.”

But police are still investigating the circumstances, and charges are possible.
“If she has overstepped, the likely charges would be aggravated assault, which comes into play because of the weapon involved,” Schultz said. “The second charge would be felonious restraint.”

While it’s legal for a citizen to make an arrest under certain circumstances in Wyoming, it isn’t encouraged.
“I don’t recommend the public or private persons make citizen’s arrests,” Schultz said.
“It’s generally ill-advised and dangerous for them to do. They should allow police officers who are trained to handle those situations,” he said.

The woman’s name was not available for release by press time.
The 17-year-old, although found to be wrongly targeted, was cited for possession of a controlled substance.

of course they still nabbed him for possession
