The announcers did their best to amp up the excitement by talking about tire wear the last half, but without having the drivers take advantage of the tire wear or even the Ricciardo's engine issues their discussion failed.

Sometimes... perhaps especially to the more casual observer? Maybe particularly to the 'Mericun motorsport fans..
I quite enjoyed the chess match that was being played out in this years race throughout the field over tire management and track position.. Leader with a wounded car.
No... the world's best drivers (and Lance Stroll) in the most advanced cars in the world at speed on that track are never a snooze fest.just a snooze parade.
Seeing it in the flesh should be on any fan's bucket list.
come on, there was no change of position from qualifying to finish for the top 5. there has to be a bad pit stop or fatal mechanical to cause a top 5 pass. there were not a lot of risks. Several of the drivers even said how boring it was. Glad I went out drinking after 5 laps. on the other hand, the vintage race the weekend before was cool.

They can't all be barn burners. And Monaco has never been about overtaking.. it's qualifying and then not making mistakes in race that's important. By that measure Ricciardo's drive was one of the all time best.
Verstappen's accident on Saturday morning really didn't help. Then Ricciardo backing up the field due to his MGU-K failure meant that there were no gaps to allow strategy changes to anything other than one stop.
It was a far better race than the Indy 500
French GP practice and rain. interview with Ross Braun, His shirt said Ross Brown. french humor ?
Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.
French GP a snoozefest, per usual with F1. Alonso to Mclaren Indy looking good and also rumours of Scott Dixon, arguably the greatest driver of his generation in Indycar (and probably the 2nd greatest driver in the world after Alonso) is going to Mclaren Indy with a 3 year offer around $30M.
Road America was a bit of a bore at the front but plenty of overtaking towards the rest of the pack. Interesting to see how the championship plays out and when Mclaren will formally announce 2019 Indycar plans.
F1 still circling the drain with the halo and lack of passing lmao
I would love to hear how you came up with Scott Dixon being the second best racing driver on earth. Not trying to be an ass, I’m genuinely curious.
It would be awesome to see F1 cars lap Road America
Third in all time OW wins (only behind Foyt and Mario ) in an era of unprecedented parity and increases competition at only 37.
Won in only 3rd CART start at the age of 20
Indy 500 winner
4 time series champ
3 time Daytona 24 winner
When he tested for Toyota after winning championship in 2003 he was quicker than teammate Ralf Schumacher - his first time ever in a F1 car
Obviously this is highly subjective and there is no way to prove this but IMO you put him in a Mercedes or Ferrari and he puts up the same or better results than Hamilton or Vettel

The FIA is such a joke, no balls to remove the chicane .and get rid of the damn halos and hybrid engines .
No wonder Ferrari is going to leave after 2020

It was Williams not Toyota.
I've never heard that he was faster than Ralph on his first drive*. Not that lots of people weren't faster than Ralph.
Delusional rather than just subjective. That's 8 F1 Championships, rapidly coming up on 9.. that he's the same or better than?Obviously this is highly subjective and there is no way to prove this but IMO you put him in a Mercedes or Ferrari and he puts up the same or better results than Hamilton or Vettel
* a quick google shows that his first F1 drive was April 2004 (in the Williams, not a Toyota) at Paul Ricard and Schumacher was 8/10ths faster than him.
He drove a Toyota for CGR in 2003, hence the mix-up also Ralf's former tenure with Toyota.
Regardless, Hamilton has Button-esque talent, just lucked into good Cars at the right time and is marketable. F1 has never been about driving talent anyways.
No because of Formula 1's politics. Case in point Felix Rosenquist. Has the talent to be in a top F1 ride but doesn't have money or the backing of an OEM with a JR driver program like Mercedes or Ferrari. He will probably go to Indycar with the new Scuderia Corsi team (part owned by Stefan Johansson who is his agent) and will enjoy a long career in the states.
Everyone knows f1 is not a drivers championship. Its all about the car. Obviously there is some talent there but I don't think there is much of a difference between a Valterri Bottas and a Graham Rahal .
Pinnacle of motorsport my ass
Obviously there’s no way to quantify who the best driver is, but I’ve never heard anyone with your opinions FWIW.
you’re obviously an F1 hater trolling the F1 thread, but I’ll play on a lil
It is the pinnacle. The only other series I’m aware of that ever posted faster lap times vs same year F1 cars were certain Can-Am cars, I believe the Porsche 917 years specifically, late 60s early 70s and that series was basically regulation-less as we all know.
There isn't a miscellaneous OW, DTM, WEC, Nascar thread so I assume this is default thread. TGR has never had a problem with tangents before. I hate the current generation of F1, but still maintain a close interest as I follow all the top series. If F1 goes back to the classic 1990-2009 era, I will go back to being a supporter.
CanAM was way before my time but from what I have read its badass, probably on par with CART circa 1989-1999 and F1 in the 90s as the greatest series of all time
Fairly certain CanAm and F1 were all racing at Mosport and The Glen at the time, late 60s early 70s, the stuff of legend. Check out old canam footage, seems like you’d really like it
I saw Dennis Hulme and Bruce McLaren driving their orange Can Am cars at Bridgehampton. It was 1968, I think. Those cars were beasts. The McLarens were the equivalent of the Mercs in the first two years of hybrids. Everyone else was racing for third.
Regrettably I never saw a race at the Glen ... only the Dead, Allman Brothers and The Band.

Yes, F1 at The Glen. Fun times.
