Custom order placed... New Cease & Desist w/ the “eh ski” base (I just love the Sorry! element on the bases). Super stoked for these. Already planning a powder destination for next year to test them out. And yes, I went green sidewalls again, because I like to be different.

Great topic. I’ve got no clue. Wish I had a ton of money and would buy all three and see which fits my needs the best.

Been reading plenty of reviews. Now I just need money.

Leaning toward the 98. Figure the 88 would not typically see much snow time at Kirkwood.

Might be at Squaw Friday. Watching the weather.

I've clearly lost my spot as the top ON3P whore in the area. I liked them before they were cool

Sorry man. I know what I like and I tend to go all-in.

Looked at several other options for a big powder ski and had the mold not changed, I would’ve made a different choice. The old mold just wasn’t going to work for me but the new one being Billy Goat-based does. So, I’m glad I didn’t pull the trigger too soon on something else. If you ever want to ride something in the quiver, PM me and and I’m sure we can cross paths up on the mountain.

Mentioning ski whores, I just ordered some custom Kartel 108’s in a touring layup. Will be curious to see what the final weight is on those in 186cm.

Just curious, why Kartel over Wren? You already have the Wren 108 and seem to dig it in a broad range of conditions. Unless you're getting your jib on in the backcountry or know of some secret park that you have to skin to the Wren series seems like a more obvious choice for a touring ski.
Maybe this isn't a touring ski at all (likely the case) and you're just looking for a slightly softer/more playful option which makes sense as well. Either way, lots of folks will be interested in the weight for sure!

Having ridden it on a demo, I would totally tour on the k108. Well balanced. Easy to ski slow or fast, great float for size...lots to like, even if it’s not a traditional touring shape.

Mounting with Shifts, so it's more of a 50/50 do it all travel and slackcountry ski. I will still have my lighter touring setups. And much as I love the Wren 108 it prefers wide open spaces and likes to go fast, whereas a lot of the exits back to trailheads often require slower speeds through tight trees. Plus, variety is fun. It would be boring to get a touring layup W108 when I already have the regular one.

^^^ yup, figured it was something like that - makes good sense.

One of you other ON3P whores should still order a 179 Wren 96 in a touring layup and let the rest of us know how much it weighs. I don't care about weight that much, but in a skinnier spring season/bigger mission ski it's difficult to ignore/not take into account. Trouble is, I REALLY like the mix of stable/damp/pop that ON3P builds into their skis and am having a difficult time imagining not having that ride quality for the sake of a couple hundred grams.

Looking at this option myself. What top sheet did you end up going with?

I'm starting to really like the Kartels. Being a slightly more directional skier myself, it took me a few extra days to figure them out, and I had to detune them quite a bit, but now I am starting to see the light.

    got some 16/17 Wren 98's

Got a couple days in on them now, a shitty dust on crust day at Mary Jane, and a decent corncrete on chunky crust day at Loveland. First impressions are: Holy fuck are these things stiff, damp, and fast. They're going to take some getting used to after skiing most of the season on Icelantics, for sure. May need to detune them a bit. Great at carving and pointing em down a hill and letting it rip. Find them a bit intimidating in trees or bumps, especially if the snow is shitty. Definitely hit my all time speed record on them today, pointed them straight down a ridge and let it rip. really can't believe how unshakeable they were, especially at 98/180. They're growing on me, not quite what I expected and not like any other skis I've ridden. really weird how they're so stable and damp but still have pop.

I think we have a couple of the same skis now. 186 K116 and BG189 w/o asym? I love my Kartels. They are detuned a few cm past the contact point on the tips. Haven't touched the tails. Kinda wish I had them in a 108 instead of 116 however.

I prefer 186 K116s over Wrens/BGs/SGs or Rx in spring slush and slush bumps. They are super quick for their weight/width. They feel extremely light on your feet, but then have most of the stability anyone could ever need in soft spring conditions. I cant wait to try them in some light and dry powder..

Next year I want to spend a good amount of time on the 186 Kartel 108s, and get a little more creative with my skiing. Try to learn to butter and spin off all mtn features, and dip into the park more often. Then move up to the 191 maybe for 2020, to add more speed into the equation.

Typically I would sell skis's if I wasn't going to be on them a lot. I didn't ski at all this winter. But the K108's stayed with me. I love that ski. Such a solid playfull DD for where I ski.

anyone here able to compare BG's to another ski? I had 190cm Line Sick Day 114's and 184 Mordecais as my fat skis this year. The Sick Days were fun for straight lining on deep days but were too burly for anything else and skied too long for me for most things. The Mordecais were the opposite: fun on deep days in trees or goofing off and jibbing around but way too soft and chattery for anything else. Thinking of picking up some 184 or 189 BG demos I found. I rode them at a demo day in 184 but it was dust on crust and I only had time for 2 quick runs so I really didn't get a feel for them at all.

BGs will have a nice blend of quickness in trees and straight-line stability.

184 should still have plenty of backbone if you are under 180lbs.

At 200 bacon slices would they still work? All my other skis are 189-191cm. Want something for trees on deeper days.

I'm around 5'10.5" and 200. I know folks on here like super long skis, I found my sick day 114 190's to be to long. But they have almost no tail rocker and a long effective edge. My Icelantic Nomads are 181 and I wouldnt mind if they were a bit longer. My Wrens are 179 and as stiff as they are I wouldnt want them any longer. Maybe once I get used to them.

I think you’ll be fine on the 184 if you like the 179 wren 98s.
189 might feel like your sick days.

184 if you want something specific for trees.

189 of you want a good balance fo wide open terrain and tighter trees.

At 210lbs myself, I could probably ski the 184s as a tree specific ski. I ski on 186 Kartels, and I would bet the 184 goats are just as stable. Don’t overthink, or get caught up in TGR’s long ski infatuation.

Sounds like you guys know the 184 will work. On3ps 184 is like other companies 187..

Why do you ski the Kartel? Do you like the more jibby feel? How does it feel when you open it up in bigger terrain?
