Just pulled the trigger on a Guncrafter Industries 1911. No name model with black melanite finish. Of course it's .45 ACP- anything else in a 1911 would be an abomination.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! "Pulled the trigger". I wonder if digital death will get it.

I've always been a fan of the 1911 style, but like the look of the compact better than the full size. (as well as the carry-ability)

    I have a 9, a 380, and a 357. Gun quiver is missing a 45

I had a Maxim 08/15 for a while. They tend to run sporadically, basically because of the ammo these days. Most is surplus 8mm left over from WWII and who knows what shape it is in. I had some Egyptian that would misfire about every 15 rounds. Learned to clear jams on the gun and at least slowed down the usage of ammo. The other thing that tended to change the rate of fire was the length of the belt it had to pull. More weight slowed it down. Near the end of the belt, it would speed up.

Neat gun. Got tired of lugging it, belts, water, oil, etc. to the range.

Not mine, it had more character.

This. Pre owned compact 1911 with work done to it is a recipe for disaster. A lot of reputable high end gunsmiths won't work on a full size Kimber, let alone a compact. If you want a 45 compact, there are plenty of options out there, but I'd stay away from a short bbl 1911. That action wasn't designed to work with such a short stroke. FWIW, I'm a 1911 guy so I don't have anything against them, it's just the short ones don't work. Stick with the 5" bbls and you have a fighting chance.

I own a Kimber .45 1911 in Stainless Pro Carry. Not exactly a small weapon but it's not the worst CC, either. Just heavy. But it's never had a single issue, either, so there's that....

I don't understand why a high-end manufacturer like Kimber wouldn't make a high end short barrel 1911? Why wont gunsmiths work on them??

so if I want a compact (or at least, not full size) 45, I should just go with a Shield?? Guy selling one here for 300. Just seems like such a vanilla gun, and from everything I've heard a trigger job (in MA) is a must...

Kimber makes pretty guns. They built a ton of guns for the military as well, but they didn't win the contract. However, neither Steve Morrison nor Jason Burton would work on Kimbers last time I talked to them. I talk to Steve often, he told me he didn't like the metallurgy from Kimber, said he'd found bubbles in the metal as well. Burton didn't give me a reason. They both prefer to work on Colts. Steve also works on Springfield Armory. I'm sure there are gunsmiths out there who do Kimbers, but I can only speak personally to these two guys, who are very respected in the industry.

FWIW, in addition to several full size 1911's I have a para warthog that has run somewhere north of 5k rounds thru it without a single failure to feed, fire or extract. Conversely, I bought an BNIB early 80's colt 70 series about 10 years ago that had an ejector problem from the factory that was causing it to stovepipe spent cases. YMMV.

Speaking of 1911's, I have an early Kimber that is a tack driver and runs flawlessly. I have found that many 1911's are thrown together by the manufacturer, and many need to go back for tweaking to perform correctly. I had a Wilson small frame that ran great, but threw the brass into your face. Working on a trade for a custom build Commander stainless with a Caspian frame and Kimber slide. Will see how it does.

Friend on patrol with us was in Delta Force. His 1911's were custom builds based on a Caspian frame. He had two identical guns. One that he used while the other was getting tuned. Said he typically ran 1,000-2,000 rounds per week through them. When he retired, they offered him his 191's at $5,000 each, and he passed, but he did pick up his SR-25 for $1,200!

Looking to sell a rifle. Whats the best way to do that these days? I've always been on the purchasing end of the equation...

In OR, so I think I now need a completed background check to transfer ownership.

I don't know about OR, in MT you just meet up with someone in the WalMart parking lot, exchange cash for gun, and go about your business. Shoot, shovel, and shut up.

Yeah, but how do they know you are selling a gun? Newspaper ad? Nickel? Can't sell them on craigslist...

This one is on the short list.

After my buddy almost got tusked by a big boar, I am rethinking my backup sidearm when hog hunting.
Luckily, he was able to pull his .45 while falling backwards and stop it in it's tracks. It got up about a minute later and he had to shoot it again. Night hunting for hogs is sketchy. I will not be doing that again.

Shooting yes, this was with dogs and homemade spears with Manny from Jackass and Wild Boyz.
It was fun, but mass chaos when 3 big boars started running every direction. Felt like we were under attack. Pretty exciting, but I like to see them coming. When shots are fired, boars are running every direction, no one knows what the fuck is going on, that is not fun.

I went out at dusk with 2 other guys and shot three in an orange grove. We went with the rest of the group to observe the spear hunt. Too many guys in an orange grove that was full of pigs.

I prefer to stalk them, so I am used to the danger. This was just over the top. Next time I'll have 10mm ready for them.

I'd prefer DA/SA over striker fire for CC. Shield .45 is (obviously) a great gun, but striker fired, as are the Glocks. Considering a Sig 220 (or 320 if someone can talk me into striker fire), but.. then I saw this

(Seems to me like the best carry .45s are from Para Ordinance or Kimber, but both are big money) I've fallin in love, but its $1200. Could buy 4 shields for that price.. Any advice?? Low round count (<200), trigger job and bbl recrown. Night sights, 2 tone Cerakote, and VZ slim grips. Aluminum frame... should I???

The HK 45c checks all of the boxes and is as reliable as one could ask.

The company owns one and I've gotten a chance to shoot it a fair bit. Nice trigger and very smooth/soft recoil impulse. I've been thinking about picking one up for my personal collection.

Warthog, now that makes sense and sounds super fun. Wish I had the time to do that, maybe someday. I used nightvision when I went so I shot my hogs from 50-100 meters.

Armslist.com was an awesome local way to do it. My record was 4 transactions in a week.

Those days are dead in Colorado now, you have to have a background check. I really think the only benefit now is that stolen guns are much harder to sell because they run the numbers at a shop. I look back and think of the 70 I sold/traded/bought if (how many) had been stolen.

    But...
the number of gun store break ins this year is a record high and they show up with 5 guys and run off with 40 guns per store sometimes 2-3 stores per night.

I'd post it on Armslist and then meet at an FFL to do the transfer. Or see if a shop will take it on consignment or trade for another firearm.

^^ alternatively, you could look and see if there's any firearm online forums in your area. In New England, www.northeastshooters.com is huge (44,000 members, 265,000 threads = TGR membership/threads) and a lot of times members will sell guns cheaper than armslist. (Glock guy I know sells G19s for $100 cheaper to forum members than to strangers on armslist)

    LMAO.

Saw another that said something along the lines of: "Look guys, enough of the Sig p320 jokes. Lets be adults and just drop it."
