GGNRA: Looking south east into the east bay. Richardson bay and angel island in foreground. Start to the coastal trail, 2.7 miles of single track to Highway 1. Wiping out into the bushes will result in a wicked case of poison oak, which is very healthy this year.

Ideal timing is to hit the spine just a few minutes before the sun sets. Perfect twilight the whole way down with no shadows. Usually few if any hikers, especially on a Sunday or weeknight.

Do people actually clear the deadfall out of Bear Trap now? I used to trail run it with some regularity, and there was always quite a bit of deadfall. Easily hurdled on foot, but on the bike it would have required dismounting 5-10+ times which would be a major drag.

Yup, they do. I think it's been getting a little more use the past few years too.

That's another great one right there. I LIKE TRAILS. Gotta get back up there soon...

    A couple ridgelines over:

OH: and good luck to you Dunfee on your move! It's good to ramble.

I would never ride trails that are not designated for bikes. Been riding the area since 1987, still not tired of it, learned a long time ago not to discuss specific routes or trails in public forums. Also, please do not use Strava on the mountain, it is evil and will come back to bite everyone. Politics in the area are basically a bare knuckle fight at this point.

Met up with a friend from Bozeman for a nice little lunch ride. The sky unloaded a 30-second graupelfest on us right as we started down. Yee haw.

Thanks man! Psyched to ride the roots and rowdy again and check out of this dusty flow trail routine . Although after bobsled and moab this week I'll miss the hell out of the utah riding.

Took a quick lunchtime ride up to the radio towers in NSL. It was purdy and green.

You can also make your rides "private" on strava so the whole world doesn't see them

You also need to go turn off the "heatmap"

Problem is most riders do not manage their data well. Rumors were this spring that MMWD installed a cameras on one or more of the trails based on heat map data from Strava. Rumor is they also post rangers (some with radar guns) based on the data as well. Just enjoy the ride, you do not need it every time. There is a listserve email that posts the locations of rangers on the mtn that is somewhat real time based on rider participation. How about an app.

The more you ride the mtn, the more you figure out ways to ride it so you avoid the man and conflict with other users. I have gotten two tickets in last 30 years and none in last 15, so I guess it is just the price to play. knock on wood!!!
