They are well made budget AR15s.

I'd personally build a rifle, far better value at the moment.

That said, in a few more months and we're going to see sub- $400 for guns like the Ruger. Lots of shops ordered deep on these for the panic buy crowd but the election results caused a huge slump in sales.

Built one seven or eight years ago, but it cost because I used good-quality, and more expensive, components. Better to buy a complete build at a budget price and be done with it. Almost bought a used Seekins AR before moving out of Northern Mexico, talk about $$$.

There are about 3 manufacturers of AR parts. Most all builders use one of the three. Depends on the price, but Ruger is reliable and will stand behind its product. Don't expect it to hold a 1/2" group at 100 yards.

Academy Sports has a sale on some low end DPMS rifles right now. Slab side uppers, no optics for $499. DPMS Sportical.

OR, if you are so inclined, order a kit and a lower and build it yourself. Pretty fun little project. I have built several.

My buddy was looking at that one. I see the "cold-hammer forged barrel" but what, if any, is the barrel bore treatment? Seems that the price point guns tend to get skimpy on that important component.

I agree with the others on building an AR. I have built several and always beat or the shelf pricing and ended up with higher quality specs.

But for less than the Ruger you can get a much nicer handling rifle: http://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-05/rifle-kits.html

I have built several rifles from these guys and have been very happy.

Ruger can suck it. They were very anti AR and very anti 30 round mag for a long time and only changed by their own admission because of profitability.

AR's are not going to appreciate, too many people make them.

I made money on FNC's, daewoo's and now a freaking killing on sig 556's. Go a little out of the main stream on a quality build that nobody makes anymore and you could double your money vs. lose 20%.

If you don't care about value PSA makes great stuff(with options) for cheap. I've built 15 ar's (60% of them psa) and still have parts for another 4-6, that stuff gets out of hand.
You might find a good deal too on armslist or gb or at your local gun store used.
Just come back here and ask when you find something.

What he said. With some help from LVS I built an AR that is a badass gun. Granted I have double in parts, scope included, than the Ruger, but it is a super smooth, accurate, fun the shoot weapon. Worth every penny and would have cost me double to purchase than what I have into it.

Personally I have no desire to own a "cheap" AR15 like the Ruger. I find a budget rifle like that to be very dull to shoot. I thought the point of a rifle like that was to hoard and resell? (At least that's what all the people I know who bought them were planning on doing... now they are stuck with rifles that they have zero desire to shoot.)

Just ordered 4 more AR500 pistol targets, plus am getting my dueling tree back from a buddy. Should have a pretty sweet home range going, I'll post a pic once it's set up.

No Dumbass! Guns are exactly like women- you shoot load after load after load. Then when you're bored, you finally get rid of them.

I sold my first AR, a Primary Weapons Systems 5.56mm, for $1000 more than MSRP when Obama got elected for his second term. Just sayin'....

Exactly! A buddy has the smith m&p AR. We went shooting not long after I completed my build. Man what a pile of shit. What's funny is he thought his new AR was a nice running gun until he shot mine. I helped him build a new AR just a couple months ago. He hasn't shot the smith since.

So you'd pick one with bucked teeth and no sex drive? Following your analogy still doesn't give the Ruger a win.

BTW I emailed LWS about this: I bought a Walther PPS M2 and couldn't be happier. If you've got man-hands like mine and you're looking for a compact single stack that actually fits and shoots well, this is your answer. Did a side by side test with my VP9 the other day and while it's not quite there, my groups were in the same neighborhood. Impressive, given it's small stature.

Your holsters should be shipping out in a few days. Remind me, did you want them in Verde or Vias camo?

Would be interested in what kind of build... upper, lower, barrel, etc, for your friend's AR. I'm in the same boat and almost pulled trigger on the Ruger takedown 223 (also ordered the takedown 10/22). But want to have an AR that will last several human lifetimes and is fun to shoot. My AR is DPMS upper and barrel, Double Star lower. It's a POS just good for abusing, but not super fun shooter.

No, I have not. One budget gun I would highly recommend is the Canik TP9 SF Elite. You're essentially getting a Walther PPQ for ~$350. I got to shoot one recently and really liked it.

Buy a router, a jig and a kit and build your own with no background check or paperwork. Ghost guns are very cool.
