So he would have written a magnum opus about living close to work in SF because the commute from elsewhere would be horrible?
Groundbreaking stuff.
i'm only on page 11
I've made myself clear: the law does not sufficiently punish assholes behind the wheel. I think some vigilante justice improves the situation and we would be better off with more of it.
Furthermore, I think if you harass some tiny woman and she slaps you in the face and takes your Ray-Bans, it's an embarrassment to you and not a crime to call the cops about, and certainly not something to publicize unless you want people to know you're a clown.
Skip the video game. Just go stand directly in front of your douchemobile and have someone lay on the horn for a minute. You seem to think it's no big deal, so why not?
If you're hearing the horn from immediately in front of the car you're about to get run over, is that what you want him to simulate?
I must have missed that you're a vigilante. My bad bro.
Again you missed my cooler heads should have prevailed statement that I've since repeated 3 times now. Both driver and cyclist - but I get it man, I steal a piece or two of bulk food too when I'm hungry so I get sticking it to the man when the laws of decent society don't fit your agenda. What's a little assault and larceny for some loud noise?
But then again I've said since page one that respect and safety on both motorists and cyclists is needed and there are assholes on all sides; and made it clear that this is one big panty-twist of a thread
Its common courtesy to honk before flattening someone. Usually one long beep followed by frantic staccato beeps.
Come on guys, I know this girl's got 20 pages in it. Let's gear up.![]()
I still call it The Jake.
From the CVC: (c) A driver of a motor vehicle shall not overtake or pass a
bicycle proceeding in the same direction on a highway at a distance
of less than three feet between any part of the motor vehicle and any
part of the bicycle or its operator.
(d) If the driver of a motor vehicle is unable to comply with
subdivision (c), due to traffic or roadway conditions, the driver
shall slow to a speed that is reasonable and prudent, and may pass
only when doing so would not endanger the safety of the operator of
the bicycle, taking into account the size and speed of the motor
vehicle and bicycle, traffic conditions, weather, visibility, and
surface and width of the highway.
In other words--the 3 foot limit is not absolute. As far as being passed, when I'm biking I don't like cars to blast by me but I also don't care for nervous drivers who stay a few feet behind me or pass me very slowly. Pass me at a reasonably brisk speed. (The same nervous drivers who seem to be able to pull up to the left of a truck but not pass it.)
I have yet to hear any bike-entitlement supporters explain what should happen or be done in the scenario I described on Donner Pass Rd--a 3 mile steep winding uphill no passing segment where even the best cyclists are making less than 5 mph.
I would like to point out that 99% of the people posting in this thread, whichever side they appear to be on ride bikes and drive cars.
On a side note I saw a guy going WB on I90 on his road bike on the shoulder texting on his phone, seems ballsy given the huge amount of road debris that collects on the side of the road
“I have a responsibility to not be intimidated and bullied by low life losers who abuse what little power is granted to them as ski patrollers.”
Maybe cuz they don't kill and maim shitloads of people? Murdering people with your car is the best way to do it in this country. The only way you will ever sniff jail time for it is if you do it repeatedly while blind drunk.
I've spotted someone in this thread who drives a dipstick-less automatic transmission bmw suv and is regularly given the finger on his commute. That's pretty much the textbook definition of someone who shouldn't be allowed to drive. When he kills or cripples someone through his incompetence, do you think he'll do serious time? Or will it be more along the lines of a(nother) ticket and he'll be told to go on with life? If it goes the way things typically go in this country, it'll be the latter.
If I am behind a car or two and spot a road hogging cyclist ahead, I well sometimes help out by blasting the horn. This helps the drivers in front of me who may be too timid to honk.

"If the road You followed brought you to this,of what use was the road"?
"I have no idea what I am talking about but would be happy to share my biased opinions as fact on the matter. "
Ottime

To go rock climbing on Donner Summit, hike south on the PCT, because I80 gets seriously backed up heading west to the summit, because it's beautiful and at least used to be more pleasant than I80 when heading for the valley, and because even when 80 is wide open it takes me the same time to get to Soda Springs as the freeway. Is that enough reasons for you?
What's a map?
I'm from the UK so maybe the dynamics are different but when I ride I generally seek out quiet roads as do many other cyclists. If I am on a busy (with motor traffic) road you can assume it is because there is no logical alternative. There are many quiet (with motor traffic) roads which are busy with cyclists every weekend so it always seems weird to me that drivers on these roads act like they are being super inconvenienced by my presence.
Maybe you just accept that some roads have bikes on and adjust your expectations on journey times? It's not like your journeys up there are life or death is it?

I hope no one cares about slow bikers on empty country roads.
That is a scenario where the car coming down should yield a little to the car passing the cyclist if the pass was initiated already. Granted, that is an issue with all the blind corners, but speeds should be slow, but we know that isn't always the case. I lived at the base of Donner and biked up that a few times on my mtn bike and I don't recall even seeing a car, but I pull onto the dirt when on the road with cars...but I have fat tires. Then again, that was before tahoe was a complete shitshow, it was only a half a shitshow then.
My roadie friends here ride at 5am along the coast and see at best a couple cars. This am was certainly different for them as we have some surf.
