Very little. If you have a belly, probably worse, but I don't have that problem.
It contours to my body very well.

Just do what my old work partner does - only buy rifles with black synthetic stocks and blued barrels. Put a black scope on and they all look the same to her.

Genius! It's the same reason I like skis with plain black top sheets!

My buddy's dad gave me some advice a few years ago. "You can have as many guns as you want. You just have to be disciplined. You only get to take one out of the safe at a time if your wife is around". He has a big safe with a lot of guns in it.

Or you could do like I did, marry a woman who doesn't care how many guns I own.

Tuckability could be cool with that holster.

Does the front corner of the mag holder dig in when you sit?

I'm facing the likelihood of not being able to steelhead fish this fall and I'm considering getting into bird hunting as a replacement. I'm in North Central Washington. What should I know prior to buying some sort of shotgun. General idea I've got so far is to decide if I'm waterfowling of just hunting upland. What else should I take into account?

Fit is super important in a shotgun, any gun really but esp. so in a shotgun. If you can't have one fitted a good way to do it yourself is to pick up the gun, look at a spot on the wall, close your eyes, shoulder the gun, open eyes. The gun should be pointed at the spot. Length of pull is important in fit as well. To short of a butt stock and you will shoot way high of your target. This is very important since you do not aim a shotgun, you point it.

Next is auto loader or pump or over/under. I like an auto loader myself. Mine pulls double duty. It's not as fast as a 24"o/u but I rarely miss with it.
Next is gauge. I would do a 12. Way more versatile.
Price range is a big consideration. How much are you wanting to spend?
Most higher end guns come with a shim kit so you can customize your fit.
There is a ton of choices. I personally like inertia over gas so I run a Benelli SBEII. An M2 is a great gun as well.

Forgot to clarify but I'm definently looking more towards the affordable than extras side of the spectrum. I don't have much of an idea if I'll stick with bird hunting or not.

Without putting much thought into it I was looking at various versions of the 870.

Ah. The new Remington guns are having qc issues as noted in this thread earlier. I would look at the Benelli Nova instead.

Try to find a Winchester Model 12 pump to mount and point. I've never shot a shotgun that points more naturally. They haven't been made in roughly 40-50 years but are a dream to shoot and are as reliable as they come. There are lots of carried often - shot seldom models 12's out there to be had for 400-500 bucks. They are in a class by themselves as far as pump guns go.

15 years ago my FIL got me into skeet shooting and bought me a nice Browning O/U. Everyone shot O/Us at thst time. I thought I shot that gun well until I shot a model 12. The O/U is long gone and has not been missed.

If a model 12 fits you like it has millions of hunters and shooters you will be very happy to carry one in the field. And if you ever shoot skeet or sporting clays it is a ton of fun to watch the faces of other shooters when you smoke them using a 50-100 year old pump gun.

As far as O/US go, Browning and Beretta Make high quality field guns. Lots of good autoloaders out there, but I can't believe how pricey they have gotten in the past decade. You should be able to find a remington model 1100 in good shape for 400-500 bucks - maybe less. They may not be the newest or fanciest but are a pretty rock solid auto loader.

I don't bird hunt, but the new Remington 870s are total crap. If you can buy a nice 70s or 80s 870, they are worth a look but don't buy a new one.

My dad got a new Browning BPS recently and it seems nice and reliable, and they are around the same price as an 870 iirc.

Looks to be rollbacks. Different stores have different deals. Some haven't lowered their prices yet.

Rainbow Six? I'd suggest the Shellback Tactical Banshee Elite 2.0 Plate Carrier. You'll want to run ceramic plates, level IV.
