Hard to get my head around a 2700 dollar G19, but I really want it.

^^ Nice Glock. I've never owned a Glock, but have been considering commissioning my local 'smith to build me a nice G19 w/ a Trijicon RMR flush milled into the slide to co-witness w/ the sights and all of the other requisite trigger work, stippling, etc.
I figure it'd be a good chance to give Glock a shot, and I've really been wanting to do something with a red dot on a pistol.
^I agree. You can get a BETTER trigger done by somebody local for way less.
I've never been too keen on red dots on pistols but give it a try. I've settled on a single fiber front site for my top choice.
I have a 17 and 21.
I've shot a 17L, 18 (with and without a stock), 23, 27 and a salient.
I haven't shot the 34 yet.
G19. Not a huge fan. I like the high capacity. It is great for pray and spray, good multiple center mass hits at a surprising distance when firing only by pointing with arm partially to mostly extended, not sighting. It seems like it would be a good 'entry' gun when storming a building or fixed position. I don't like it for aimed fire. And for civilian loaded carry, I hate it. Full disclosure: I am a lousy shot with a pistol, do not have steady hands. Using the point method instead of sighting improved my accuracy but not to the point where I would want to use it in a situation with mixed hostiles and friendlies, such as home defense.
I see hydraulic turtles.
I liked all the hunting caliber talk, especially since a buddy is trying to talk me into a .300WSM. Claims the bugger round and magnum will get the high energy round out there but with trajectory nice and flat, so I can be effective at longer range if I choose to grow into that (right now I wouldn't shoot outside 200yds or so, based on my confidence and comfort).
Plus to that is I could get him to handload for me... Downside is I probably won't want to practice with it much due to shooting comfort.
I'd be using this gun on "as many animals as possible" up here in AK, so who wants to advocate for a different caliber for me? I do have access to a 338 WM model 70 that shoots really well for brown bear/moose if needed.
I'll probably consistently be trying to bag a caribou every year, and if I'm lucky enough ought to draw each year the main goal is chasing mtn goats and sheep. So the terrain and veg varies a bit, from pure alpine death marches chasing stuff up higb to low willow/alder brush piles if the caribou are down lower. Mainly spot and stalk. If the opportunity presented I'd take bear with it as well.
It wouldn't be my brush gun for chasing brown bear or moose through a forest, brush, or swamp though.
Longest shot: this is where I just don't know. I'm not comfortable out long range yet since I'm new to this, but I know folks that have been very happy to have an effective range out past the "typical" 200-300 yard most people don't play past... I'm not interested in long range shooting for its own sake, but certainly being effective or having capability to "grow into" longer ranges could be nice. Make sense?
Seems like a 300wm or wsm with a good, heavy for caliber bonded bullet would work great. Since you're not brush hunting you could go with a higher magnification scope. I think the Vortex HS LR is a really great scope for brain-free long range shooting. 1/2 moa elevation dials and a reticle that allows you do holdovers out to 1000 yards+. If you really want to hunt long range you should really plan on shooting at least 300 rounds through the rifle at distances past 400 yards, the dynamics of getting consistent hits change at that distance with a 300wm since you are at the point blank range of the cartridge (bullet really starts to drop and slow down past that distance.)
Tikka T3 Stainless would be a good rifle since you want to carry it in the wet and the hills. Might think about a fiberglass or laminate stock with a little more weight and better shape than the standard stock to help mitigate recoil and make the rifle easier to shoot. Better cheek weld too.
My .02 as someone who doesn't hunt outside of coyotes but does spend a decent amount of time shooting moderate to long distances with a 300wm.
Thanks for the data point. The Tikka stainless/composite in 300wsm was actually exactly what I'm looking at so good to hear some confirmation. Still trying to get rust spots off my poor blued rifle... Ain't easy hunting in sub-arctic rainforest.
I'd look at one of these stocks to replace the standard plastic tikka stock: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/110...a-t3-synthetic
Sweet. Where is the link to convince my wife we need more guns?
Something ordered from here might work: http://www.tiffany.com/jewelry
Explain it as a mutual pact, you get a gun, she gets something shiny.
You want my rifle: Tikka T3 Lite in .300WM; Manner's Stock; Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm Optics; MT Tactical bottom metal (not shown); muzzle brake. Basically a poor man's custom rifle that can shoot 3/8" groups at 100 yards and has gone round for round with a custom rifle that costs more than my truck out to 1200 yards. Tikka's (and Savages) are hands-down the most consistent production rifles made and the T3 Lite is the ultimate mountain rifle.

It's cool when you can buy guns and expense them as tools.

Shout out to Leavenworth Skier and his boys over at Gunfighters Inc. Received my CAS IWB holster for my Sig p238 today. Fit is incredibly comfortable and weapon retention is superb. Well done fellas.
And a mag discount to boot.
Thanks Woody.![]()
Yo NWS, that thing print? From the pic it looks like it would print pretty bad. It's sick though, of course they come up with it after I bought my iwb.
