Ski that line, take that trip, slide that rail, make that leap, live for the moment, and make memories with friends that’ll last a lifetime, because as a great man once said, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.”

Had a look at the photos from Targhee I took yesterday. Selected a few.

For those of you who were there, you know how good it was. If you weren't able to make it here, or somewhere.... I am truly sorry.

    Was good.

Stopped to talk to to a carver. Love 'em or hate 'em, can't deny they sometimes make it look good.

.....a few more recent shots..... set the camera to action mode and pushed the button. Click, click, click,.......took about a thousand that day and ended up with so many great shots that it's hard to choose between them. What I call an "overload day", seems a waste, but shit, whataya do.

Was a great day with some of the crowd from KC, the guys who were there all the time, our "gang", cuz' even though I am now 60, I hung out with my boys on the hill, and their buddies, who became my friends at 35 years my junior. I was one of them. They grew up on the hill, eventually working here, part time, year after year, getting better and better. These guys rock, and they helped make me a better rider. We are not the best, no.... not by a long shot, so many great riders out there. But you know, as well as I do when you are better than average. It takes years to get that good.

We were all beginners once, you remember that first day, don't you? You may not remember all the times you have gone riding, I know I can't, but I can remember that day. Only the ones who stick with it will ever be truly good, real good. And with that acquired talent comes a reward that is perhaps only superseded by sex. And me, at my age, not even that. ;-)

This day we beat the mountain.

Even so, it sometimes kicks back. I document that too!

Gets pretty crazy, I'm the spotter usually, so we don't kill someone. Fun ensues.

All in all a damn good day. Did miss skij up there that day, miscommunication. There'll be another day.

I'll leave you this. In the meantime get out there and tear it up.

Only a couple of weeks or so of the lift served season at Targhee. Anyone who frequents the Ghee want to have me follow them around the hill for a run or two and take a few shots of you. that you can have. For free. Just for shits and giggles. I can only ride weekends now, got a job. Jobs get in the way of snowboarding. You know that though, don't you.

    Just throwing this out there.

Legs hurt today. Cole's trace snow said we did a little over 20 miles after arriving at the hill late yesterday. Sympathy from the wife this morning? Zero...

Thanks man, you are too kind. Sorry to hear about your dad, a sad damn deal. Glad you had such a great relationship with him, not everyone is so lucky. I am no spring chicken, and understand the struggles that befall us now and again. That is why I am not waiting to do all the things I like to do, I know I won't always be able to. So for now you'll find me on the hill snowboarding, or in the hills hiking and climbing. I want few regrets when I am too old to do this stuff.

Sure was bummed to miss you up to Targhee, was expecting you the next day. So, before I get too old and decrepit, we need to meet up. Preferably somewhere near here, cuz I am not likely to do much traveling too far east of here. ;-) In the meantime, keep shredding those hills!!!!

Thanks!! Headed to Targhee again this weekend, and the next. After that it'll be the pass for our entertainment. Always a good time.

Probably be solo on this next trip to the Ghee, Turner will be sightseeing in central Utah, Canyonlands and other cool spots, Tate and Trent are working, and Cole will be unavailable also. So....anyone up there hit me up, let's take a run or two!!

    Thank you, Gentle men --

It Is a strange journey : My Dad and I have not had an easy time -- Much of the last twenty years was lost :

years ago(,) He crushed me. and I took a big step back ...

I remember him saying in 2006 (that) he believed he was experiencing (the onset of) dementia ...

there were events in 2011 and 2012. I stayed in - touch and at a distance ...

I go now(,) and I read essays about adventures and the outdoors that we have so loved.

it seems to bring him some ease. and I am consoled by thinking I am doing some thing for him

    ( as I type this, I Know : I Am rewarded. ) .

He could have had a fatal heart attack in 2008 or 2009 ...

advances in medicine ( he got two stents in 2008 ) have brought us to this :

I am grateful for the time with my father.

    I have Peace, bobby - Thank You ... (!)

    Thanks! yep, still posting!

    This morning!

So, was an incredible spectacle this morning up at the cliff-side view spot. Male eagle and peregrine falcon dueling over and over. The peregrine fast, the eagle powerful. A bit later the male took a swipe at a full grown Canada Goose in flight, just WOW!!! Then we watched as it dove towards the ground, picking off an unfortunate baby rabbit, bringing it back to the nest for the female and chicks to consume.

Well, another season has drawn to an end, nearly. Perhaps a trip or two to the pass, and then a July trip to the Meadow Lake cirque. But for the most part, it's over. And I am sad about that. So..... I put this together to print and frame for the wall in my "man cave". Now that all the kids have moved out, I finally have a "man cave". Refinishing and painting in there right now. I can look up from my lazy-boy, see it, and think back about what a kick ass winter it was, and then dream about the next one...

Did go camping with Turner the other night. Was cold but the fire was enough and the next morning was bluebird and sunshine. Nice.

As always, love the pictures and the story that goes with them. It is nice to have the kids out. Have fun with the man cave. Me, I got a sweet home office to work from. So nice not to drive into the office anymore.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Jeeze I better take a moment to respond and say thanks. Shit I'm lax about getting thanks out there in a timely manor. So...thanks! :-)

I do have a bit of an excuse, started a new job, office manager for a small parts store chain, got 4 days of training, and have been mired in the stress of figuring the ins and outs of the business. I think I got it finally. Glad to have had the truck driving experience in the oil fields, but I never want to go back, so auto parts it is. Perk? Cost plus 10. Rotors and ceramic pads for Trent's Honda? $104. All 4. I'll take it. Pay isn't as good, but neither is the stress. And fuck. No offense to any truck driver out there, but I was starting to turn into one, and I didn't like it. Enough of that.

Now, all of you, near and far, if you can, imagine yourself on the edge of a cliff. 3 eagles, one adult, and two large fledglings almost as large as the adult in a nest 100 feet below you. The swallows are in the air all around. The geese call. And again. Far off the sound of Sand-hill cranes. The occasional wisp of the river, a distant gurgle sound. You know what I mean.

No wind. Perfectly still with Snake plain, laid out before you, the Lem's crossing the distant horizon 100 miles away, the sun setting behind them. So serene, so fucking peaceful.......light one up, breath deep.............................................. .................................................. ...............

Gotta tell you, it damn near gets me to nirvana. No lie. The peace is unreal. But real. Right click it. Full screen it.......and join me.

Been watching them for weeks.Just about ready to fledge. 10 more days or so and they will be gone.....

I'm going Sunday, before they are gone. Anyone want to go, I can take a couple of mags down to the "overlook". Its on private property, but I have permission from the landowner, a long time acquaintance. Coached her granddaughter on the local AYSO soccer team. We won a lot. She likes me.

Involves mild climbing /scrambling, but I can't stress enough....it would be easy to die. So don't be fucking tripping over your shoe laces. Be the last thing you did. Just sayin. ;-)

    PM me.

.....go out and make this season the best season of your life. Ski that line, take that trip, slide that rail, make that leap, live for the moment, and make memories with friends that’ll last a lifetime, because as a great man once said, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.”

    Still. Great. stuff.

WhatDidYouSay about that eagle earlier this year ... No f*s given.

Congrats. on the new gig. . . . I suspect in six weeks you will have forgotten the stress.

    You are amazing(!)

( don't let a newbie knock you off the perch. )

    Thanks, JB ... tj
