For anyone who shares my distaste for the new cotrip site, here was the response I got from CDOT:

I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the new CoTrip site. It is a bit of an adjustment for all of us. I am sure once you get used to it, you will find it more useful than before. We have simply layered the tools on top of the map. If you click on any of the items in the Interactive Map Box, you can click on any of the icons to the left of the map to display the tools. I’d be happy to walk you through it if you want to call me.

If you still find the site not user-friendly, you can go to the new site and then click on the little "CoTrip" button at the bottom left of the screen to view the old site.
Don't know how long that little icon in the bottom will be there, but fuck yeah it works.

Just click the link and bookmark the URL for the old site.

Boy, you CO folks sure like whining about shit instead of fixing it...

I'm pretty sure my version of early retirement isn't the same as yours. I can't not work... it's one of the reasons I live where I do... keeps me busy. And while I'm not pushing electrons for the man any more, I'm still involved in developing several networks, which gives me plenty of screen time to argue with you morons...

And WTF didn't really just cite this i70 project as proof he understands how transportation works, did he? Fucking amazing. Which ideas do you think were his?

Leaving cones up over weekends with no equipment, workers, or road work present.
Placing barrels out in open lanes of traffic.
Leaving visible lane lines that indicate converging lanes with no signage.
Leaving lane closure signs up creating merges and slow downs after closures had been removed.
Scheduling westbound closures for 8am and eastbound closures for 5pm.
Refusing to work overnight for the first 12 months.
Scheduling one bridge removal for October, resulting in its removal in December, and then making the exact same mistake again the next year, 2 miles away.

And the hits just keep on comin'! Now we know why WTF is being such a dumbass about this... not only does he think it works, he's one of the morons who came up with the idea!

Do yourself a favor WTF. If you think you have a future in transportation, go spend some time with a crew that knows what they're doing. Perhaps if you ask real nice, the NYS Thruway guys will let you carry their lunches and you can watch how it's done.

Nope. I wasn't even directly involved with the project. Some of my colleagues are working the legal end of this project.

That post was in reply to you saying that I "don't understand how transportation works."

You still haven't explained to me what it is about my post regarding high speed rail that makes you think I don't understand transit. I'll post it here again for you.

Maybe instead of slinging shit you can explain to me why you disagree with my opinion regarding high speed rail along the I-70 corridor.

You and I just finished a discussion about how it will be nearly impossible to complete the estimated 4 billion dollar expansion of I-70 because TABOR limits tax revenues and there is little appetite for new bonds among voters.

Now you are advocating in favor of a 20 to 25 billion dollar high speed rail expansion, and calling the naysayers ignorant and in denial???

    Good God.

Have any of you guys actually thought about the logistics of high speed rail along the I-70 corridor?

Breck, Keystone, and A-Basin are all pretty far away from I-70. How are people going to get from the train station to these resorts?

Busses and Shuttle services won't be enough to get most people to their final destination. Never mind the massive costs of purchasing and operating all of these busses. Do you really think people want to be hauling all of their luggage and ski gear on a train and then bus?

And what happens to people once they get to their cabin / hotel / resort? Are they expected to be stranded there?

How much would a ticket on the train cost? 40 bucks round trip maybe?

Wouldn't be very economical for most groups of skiers, especially considering that you will be sacrificing your mobility in the mountains.

I won't even bother to mention summertime, when a train would be absolutely useless.

Also, have any of you guys thought about how much of a pain a train would be for out of state travelers?

Picture this: You and your family land at DIA. You gather your luggage and ski gear, and get on the 35 minute train to Union Station. At Union Station you unload all of your ski gear and walk the 2 1/2 blocks to the light rail station and wait for a train to Golden. From there you get onto the light rail with all your luggage and ski gear and take the 45 minute train to Golden. In Golden you unload all of your luggage and transfer to the high speed rail towards summit county (another transfer is required here because light rail and HSR can not run on the same track). You ride the 80 minute train to Summit County. In summit county you unload all of your luggage and get on a shuttle bus to Breckenridge.

That is what? 4 transfers? a 5 hour trip?

stuff&gbtw really has this stuff figured out guys!

I understand that the project along I-70 seems like a fiasco but are you all really opposed to incremental improvements along I-70?? This new express lane only cost 70 million dollars compared to the 4 billion dollars a complete I-70 expansion would cost, and there is potential that this project might actually help traffic, provided people don't crash into the jersey barriers.

The tunnels were expanded by tax dollars in order to alleviate congestion at cost of hundreds of millions and years of inconvenience. Then a third lane was added in certain sections at additional public expense. Suddenly all this investment was allocated to a private public partnership and the extra lanes only available via toll. What I missing here?

Edit : so does the Toll lane extend through the tunnels or just to Idaho Springs?

This project has been a public private partnership from the start. CDOT didn't have enough money to complete the project without the help of a private party.

This is the same reason that US-36 now has a tolled express lane.

Within the next few years C-470 will be expanded. 3 lanes (2 public, 1 tolled) from I-70 to Broadway and 4 lanes (2 tolled, 2 public) from Broadway to I-25.

I-70 will also be getting tolled express lanes through central Denver.

Within a few years the only significant freeway in the Denver metro area without a tolled lane will be 225.

There is a reason that we are seeing so many tolled lanes and P3 projects throughout Colorado. This is all that TABOR allows.

I already bookmarked the old page. But chances are, whenever (if?) they remove the icon, they will remove the legacy site that it leads to.

So, to put it in terms that are on your level, let me rephrase since your peabrain can't seem to grasp what I wrote. "Don't know how long the legacy site, which the little icon in the bottom links to, will be there, but fuck yeah it works." I'm fairly sure most people understood the first time, but I know it was a little tough for you.

You will be amazed how long the old site exists beyond the eventual removal of the magic icon.

70 million plus how about calculating all the lost time from construction delays and the opportunity cost vs pursuing a real solution that would make a difference?

Remember, if you are stuck in traffic, you are part of the problem.

I vote for trimming the corridor down to one lane, 45 mph speed limit, 4wd only, and require studded snow tires. No plows so bring a shovel. If you can't make it up, no pow for you. Suck it gapers.

Current estimates put I70 congestion losses in CO around $1B/year. And somehow a comprehensive rail infrastructure that costs $25B and lasts a century is considered a bad investment.

I drive between Wads & 25 everyday. What moron determined Broadway to be the 4 lane cut off? Traffic westbound doesn't clear until Wads. Eastbound, the mess starts at Wads. Construction will crush the economy as people will avoid driving as much as possible. The secondary roads can only take so much traffic before they become a parking lot. I guess I'll be biking to work more often. Hope they don't f'up the bike path as well.

For what it's worth, I responded to one of those annoying phone surveys that I adamantly opposed tolls lanes and taxes should go up in the 470 region to pay for extra lanes for everyone.

I avoid I-70 on weekends like the plague. Unfortunately, I have an unavoidable 9:15pm out of Denver, Sunday night. When does the traffic usually clear on Sunday night?
The dude that owns Cacona, drives to Boulder from Aspen after dinner every Sunday night and says he never hits traffic, but I might be a little earlier.

Considering it will very likely be snowing or have just finished.... I doubt there will be a way for you to avoid traffic. I'd leave at 2 and just plan on eating dinner somewhere cool in Denver before heading to DIA.

Have you not been following this thread??

It's not like colorado has 4 billion laying around to pursue a real solution.

Are you opposed to incremental improvements along I-70?
