Morning was excellent until greenhousing and occasional sun set things up. Still skiing well but a lotta work and sticky lower elevations.

Castle skied pretty well today, agree that it started to get a little dense but skied nicely. Notice a couple of small soft/wet slabs on steeper aspects that started after the skier had been through, not an issue on this terrain but could potentially cause some trouble in steeper/more confined terrain.

Killer day yesterday. These late season storms have really worked a miracle on our snowpack.

    Cumming Family Partners...
    Snowbird Partnership
Cumming Family Partners with Bass Family in Snowbird

The Bass and Cumming Families announced today that they have entered into a partnership for the future operation and development of Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. The partnership will provide continuing direction and funding for major capital improvement projects, including a new restaurant and skier services building atop the Aerial Tram, a Four Diamond remodel initiative for the Cliff Lodge, and the future renovation of the Snowbird Center.

“This partnership will enable Snowbird to achieve more rapid growth and even greater benefits for our guests in keeping with our founding perspective and philosophy of providing a year-round destination mountain resort for the enhancement of body, mind, and spirit, with our ever present emphasis on environmental protection and sensitivity,” said Richard D. Bass.

In addition, Bass feels extremely fortunate to have the Cumming Family join in Snowbird’s future, owing to his inability to live and work at Snowbird’s altitude because of his advancing age.

“I look forward to working with the Bass Family and the team at Snowbird in providing world-class experiences on and off the mountain,” said Ian M. Cumming, an original investor in the Inn at Snowbird. Cumming owns a home at Snowbird and his family has a long history of skiing at Snowbird. “We are very happy to be involved at a place that has so many fond memories for our family,” said Cumming.

“Partnering with the Cumming Family ensures a bright future for Snowbird,” said Snowbird CEO and President Bob Bonar, one of the first employees when Snowbird opened in 1971. “Snowbird’s commitment to providing exceptional skiing and year-round hospitality, entertainment, and guest service will only greatly increase as we go forward.”

Snowbird’s current management team, led by Bob Bonar, Tom Jones and Jerry Giles, will remain in place. The partnership is between the Bass and Cumming Families and does not involve Powdr Corp. Mr. Cumming will own a majority share of Snowbird. Dick Bass will remain as Chairman of the Board.

So I see Alta has already started to move shit around where they are going to widen Corkscrew and take the sucky cat track out near the bottom of High Rustler. This has been in the works / rumored for years, a definite improvement.

Anyone get out there today? Looks like Alta is reporting 10 inches at the Collins mid station. http://www.alta.com/pages/observation.php?location=mid

Can anyone confirm this? Were you scraping the serious crust that I assume the base turned into before the snow started falling?

yes, yes, and no. yes, was there this morning and can confirm it was definitely more than 10" ... snow wasn't noticeably heavy either but set up a nice base. rode from the apron of the baldy chutes, stayed light on my feet and only hit one or two rocks near the very bottom. no, didn't hit any subsurface but did have the advantage of watching two other skiers take lines that weren't as deep and heard them, so went towards baldy shoulder direction and dropped in and it was bliss. helluva way to end a season. and lastly yes, you should have went : ) have a great summer!

Ahhh, I'm kicking myself for not going. My normal touring partners have thrown the towel in for the summer, and most forecast were saying only a few inches. Figured it wouldn't be enough to cover up the layer of shit and ice that our base would be after a good freeze. Fuck!!! Well I'm glad someone got out and got the goods!

I apologize for the lack of stoke but this seemed like the best place for my question. I will be passing through the area over the weekend and had a couple of questions. The plan is to check out Park City and then camp in BCC for the night. Is Guardsman Pass open right now? Is it doable in a 2WD passenger car? Google is telling me yes but I am not so sure after the recent snowfall. Also the plan is to camp at Spruces. Are there other viable options nearby if this is full? Is it filling up even a concern? I need to be in SLC the following morning so being somewhat close to town is important. Any info is much appreciated!

Guardsman will be open should be passable check udot site. Spruces fills up every weekend like all campgrounds near slc, don't expect to show up and get lucky I'd book ahead if you can. If you can't get a spot there is a nice campground at Jordanelle Res just east of pc called hailstone. Get a spot on the lake. Book ahead. Straight enough shot down i 80 to slc in 30 min... good luck

Yesterday was amazing, started in the parking lot around 5:30 and skied the ridge above Wildcat, not sure what it's called? Seemed like everybody gunned it for main chute which got tracked up pretty quickly.

And of course had to finish the day with a BN!

The campgrounds near slc fill up consistently. However, there are first come / first served campsites available. Find out when check out and check in is and then show up early to nab one that is being vacated. Good luck!

Current conditions on the Timp glacier if anyone is trying to make their TAY plans. Pretty much the entire snow surface up high is littered with rocks and there is about a 200 ft shitty loose dirt/scree downclimb from the saddle to snow.

    Alta season passes

Alta posted their 2014 -2015 season pass prices, look to be the same as last year, $999 for an adult, $1999 for family, 2 adults & 2 kids under 17. The details of the three free days is up in the air certainly due to the PCMR turmoil but there will be some benefit, just not finalized.

Boyne was outbid by a consortium of iceman, the gsa, and Oburnhard Franz.
