Any of you Salty Maggots have the lowdown on where theres some cheap parking near the airport? Going to be gone for 11 days and paying 70 for the week isn't all that appealing.

An old trick is to call airport area hotels, to see if they have a parking rate that's better. Or if you're a total dirtbag, park in their lot anyway, show up in the lobby and take their van to and fro.

Same goes for Days Fork, IMO, although I wouldn't call it "best of the year", but probably "best of the Spring powder" for me. (Wed. 3/12)

We did a LMP (Late Morning Patrol) start from Alta to join the hoards of folks on the hellacious skin track up to the ridge line. We were broiling in the sun on the way up, but on the North and NE facing slopes in Upper Days all was cool, and the snow was very well preserved. I concur with Bruce's report in today's UAC "Current Conditions", http://utahavalanchecenter.org/advis...ake/03/13/2014, except we saw no signs of graupel and no thin sun crusts. Along the ridge lines there was some wind damage and buried crust from before the last storm. But, it was all pretty silky on the North facing slopes, and even better, in our opinion, on the more NE facing Main Days (new snow seemed deeper there than on Two Dogs). Except for right on the ridge lines we never skied on any old, buried, pre-storm snow.

However, it was pretty crowded. But, when we left (at 5 PM) there were still a few lines on the fringes and in between others' tracks on Two Dogs and quite a bit of untracked snow starting from further up the ridge to Flagstaff summit and along the top of the Reed & Benson ridge line. When we skied Main Days there were only about 5-6 tracks. No sign of the whirly birds yesterday.

If you're out today or the next few days, I recommend liberal use of sun lotion. I thought I put on lots before I left home but still ended up with a reddish face. And, don't forget (as I did) to put sun lotion on the backs of your hands.

We decided it was safe to skin straight up S facing since we were out of sight of the bros and brahs at Alta-Bird, wouldn't want to influence their decisions.

Lots of switchbacks yesterday, mostly stable on S aspects, some small wind pockets at 10k.

    Howdy everyone!

I just rolled into salt lake city from California, and wondering if there is anyone out there that would be looking for a touring partner over the next week or so - I would love to get a chance to do a hike or two while I'm here.

    Cheers!
