    Elephants back product testing

So I've been helping Splat out with some skis over the last few weeks. I finally got my pair out there today. I chose the pure carbon 179 bros. FKNA these are light.

Dropped in around 1030 after hanging out for a while with this guy.

The Death Star had warmed things up very well. (Left the sunblock in the wife's car too, I'm redder than a lobster fresh out of the steamer)

Granted today is my first day on these and I mostly ski'd soft snow, but I somehow managed to drop my brain bucket down the West side on Elephants back around 9am and had to ski down super firm unbreakable crust. It bounced about 1500 feet down the hill, and my buddies dog wouldn't bring it back as he got yelled at for chewing a helmet about 2 months ago. The tips didn't chatter any worse than what I thought. Splat lay'd down uber amounts of rubber to reduce this, and I will say that they exceeded my expectations on the up and the down.

Corn at the resorts has been great, anyone getting any BC corn other than the Elephants back TR above? Anyone been back in Desolation? I'd like to get back there...

Should have included that the original plan was to ski stevens peak but the whole mining road was melted out and would have been a long boot pack we were not prepared for.

Uh, yeah; about that: Went home to edit the sweet footage of you and Mashed and me on the 1 big day last week -- Oops firsts and all the fun hits/lines we got in the can -- and discovered the can had no bottom.

Not a thing in there. User error, and all my fault.

    Sorryzz!!

Looks like we'll have to wait to get totally famous next year..
    Super fun day, though.

It's not getting cold enough at night for a good melt freeze. Hence, es no bueno.

This am in the Carson Pass area found a supportable surface and nice corn on a SE aspect around noon; south-facing slopes were beginning to get overripe.

Maggs had good cover a week ago; I'd guess at this point its still skiable above the lake.

Mt. Rose area - Incline Peak and Tamarack - still have decent coverage and quality. 2 laps on Incline Peak this morning and the snow is maintaining density underneath the top few inches. The surface is something between corn and slush, but if it doesn't start freezing overnight the coverage will not last much longer.

That is a helluva lotta rocker for a BRO ski!
Looks more like the front end of my 179 Lhasa's. I thought the BRO's were still like "conventional" camber, and what-not.
Has Splat changed the basic, tested-by-time profile?

SierraAtTahoe has added a Time-Lapse to their Cam page. Pretty damn cool!

What is not so cool, is we were headed to SaT on Sunday, but have got switched to Northstar now
(Not enough peeps on the bus)
But we do get Squaw tomorrow!

If it ain't freezing at night, it ain't corn, just baked crap. Could still be fun though.

Wasn't it more clear earlier in the week? Near freezing and well drained snow can also be fun (i skied a bit in Norway last year), and of course the nighttime radiation loss can set a good freeze if totally clear. The forecast for tonight looks horrendous though.

Thanks for clearing that up. Any more insights into the conditions you'd like to share?

Sidecountry near everyone's favorite Tahoe area resort was fun today. All aspects are softening, manking up early on S and E facing.

With Lockeford Kielbasa and Stockton asparagus.

Sorry it's so small. Gave up trying to relearn image embedding.
