Anyone who is on the west side ought to pass by the shop. We put several bottles of the Elijah 12y barrel proof out on the shelf today. There are still a few left. <$50 makes it silly not to grab one. If there are any left on Tuesday I'll be buying a second bottle for myself.

Damn! Skiing tomorrow. Can I send my 16 year old to pick it up for me if he promises not to crack it on the way home? If not, how late are your open on Sunday?

16 is plenty old enough for me but Governor Hick disagrees. Someone will be there until 6ish though.

Having a wee splash myself now. It's good...

Fair enough. Hate for you guys to get cross with Hick. Will be coming in hot from the hill to see if I can score a bottle before you close.

Funny you say that because it's actually made across the border and bottled in Vermont. I'm not a huge fan, many folks are however.

Also a big fan of the Japanese whiskys, Yamazaki 12 is my favorite, hard to get though. Nikka 12 is a really fine bottle also as is hibiki. Hakushu is good but not really what I look for, kind of iodine/seaweed scotchy thing going on....

Over in Belmar next door to Whole Foods. Not my shop though, I'm just the wine buyer.

Gotcha. That ought to be a good gig. You on the wine or spirits side? Surely classy guys from the American team don't post on tgr. Must be coastal.

HAHA probably not a tough guess based on the spirits I've commented on ;-) But yes spirits... Those American guys may seem super classy but they'll drink your ass under the table while telling you jokes that would make a sailor blush.

FYI elijah barrel strength $ just went up... Still a good buy for ~$49 me thinks

Never been into mile high but I know your rep and manager from CS very well.

It's a very welcome edition, and I could give a flying fuck where its origins are from, or if it has Jersey connections.

Like what you like, don't rest on blogs. Don't judge a ski on a topsheet, or do.
I'll definitely try it, especially at the price point. I too am not much of a Stranahan's fan. Have friends that love it though.

I guess the point I was trying to express was that I was a little disappointed finding out that it wasn't actually made in CO, as it's nice to enjoy a local product when possible. Was not trying to dismiss the quality, especially just based off some blogger's thoughts.

Might pick up a bottle this weekend. Cheers!

THANK YOU for this info Cruiser! I am just about to finish my bottle of Old Forester Birthday '13 and needed something next in line. Have been hoping there would be some Spring allotments of something special coming in. Called my local shop when I read this and he had just received (hadn't even unpacked) 6 bottles!! Picked mine up today. $46 and Delicious. Well worth the $$. Very stoked, and I might have missed it without your post! Thanks!!

Cruiser, Thanks for the heads up on this. Picked up a bottle at your shop, and it is my new favorite. Do you still have any bottles left? Let me know and I will come by and pick up a back-up.

Glad you snagged one Mike. That bottle is a real score! There aren't any more of the cask strength Elijahs left but we still have a good many bottles of the single barrel 12y Elijah that we picked up last month.

That Noah's is a peach, huh? I had a little snort of it 2 nights ago and it set me up just right.

We're still a couple of weeks out, but we have an order pending for a single barrel of Smooth Ambler 7yr Rye at cask strength. I'm excited for it as this barrel was particularly nice when we tasted through the samples!

^ Thanks for the update Cruiser. I will savor the Elijah cask strength that I snagged. Will definitely have to make the trek to the shop to try to grab a bottle of the Ambler. When you guys like a sample, that is good enough for me!

I haven't kept up on this thread as much as I should have, and this may have been mentioned already, but my buddy Happy Fun Ball just got me a bottle of Angel's Envy in exchange for unlimited use of my basement ski shop all winter. GREAT bourbon. Thanks, my man!!!

Also, thanks to TurkeyUP for turning me on to Buffalo Trace like a year ago. I might have mentioned that already pages back..... but I don't remember.

Just a heads up. Applejack likker in Lakewood has a pretty good selection right now.
    Elijah Craig 12yr
Noah's Mill($10 more than the price at Cruiser's store)
I bought a George Dickel 9yr that is a barrel select. $54 on sale. Ohhhh My! So good! Side by side with the Noah's Mill they are completely opposite and I like them both equally. The Noah's probably is more complex but the Dickel is big.

Just had a late night LLS run and found a couple worthwiles:

All are Barrels that the LLS selected:

Elijah Craig 12 Y/O; one for me, one for a gift - 24 bucks, not bad!

Blantons; still a bit spicy for me, but couldn't pass up the price for the store barrel selection $40

a RETURNED (not even sure how that works/worked) Black Maple Hill - $66. JACK-POT!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently the lady who bought it a few months back said she bought the wrong bottle and the owner took it back on principle. I was the next customer after her.

My (our, if you're talking to my wife) bar now has the following bourbons:

    Mass amounts of Woodford,
    Woodford Double Oak
    2 Black Maple Hills
    Elijah 12
    Jefferson 21
    1 Pappy 15
    Eagle Rare
Cleveland Bourbon (very surprisingly decent, some patent-pending pressurized process involving a Kentucky mash bill and Kentucky charred new oak spits)
    Bookers (never opened, too hot)
    Rowans Creek
    Elmer T Lee Sour Mash
    Lexington
    Col. EH Taylor uncut
    Mitchers
    Willett

    I have a problem.
I still call it The Jake.

Serious question for a uh friend of mine. If he really likes blantons after going through various bottles of four roses small and single, 46, angels envy etc stuff in that price range...what is it about blantons that appeals to him? He also vaguely remembers elijah 18 being really yummy a couple years ago too.

Well, was in Lousiville KY last weekend for the last tournment with our club team. Biggest event was the Knob Creek machine gun shoot. We didn't play until 2:00 on Saturday, so made the swing through the place with one of the dad's. His first time and a cool event.

Well, the "Liquor Barn" was across the street from the hotel. He and I figure well, hell, here we are in the heart of bourbon country and it might be a great place to find something special. Big disappointment. Everything was the same as here in Tennessee, except about $10 a bottle higher. Did come away with a bottle of Elija 12 YO just to same I picked up something.

Went up to clean the ski house this weekend, and found the leftover ski stash which included bottles of Gentleman Jack, Sinatra, and Eagle Rare which is now back at the house. Sweet.
