Are there any Big Sky lift tix deals around? Have some friends coming into town this weekend looking to hit it up. I've got the full dealio up there, can I buy discounted tix with my pass? Do they sell passes at Costco? Friends have Big Mtn passes, does Big Sky offer discounts to other MT pass holders? Anyone got some vouchers?

No kidding. Skiing Bridger a week or so ago (you know that really cold day) you could see a slide scar in the Crazies. THE CRAZIES! They are like 30+ miles away? HUGE slide.

And to think I just pulled the trigger on some Vipecs.

Hot damn, paging Climber Joe! Don't think you answered this and I'm curious too. Where in the crazies could you see a slide from Bridger?!?

Also, I totally saw a monoskiier at Bridger today. I think he had just been turned away from Schlasman's...

It had to be something around Fairview peak. Don't know if many of the high points around it have names, but that is basically the most southern one isn't it? It was one of the more southerly faces, but definitely on the higher/whiter end of things.

From what we could tell it looked like an avalanche crown. Hard to be sure from that distance, but I don't know what else looks like a huge slide scar.

Headed up to Big Sky from Jackson tonight for Assembly of Dust concert and skiing Monday. Spring conditions? Boiler plate mornings? Staying chalky? Thanks!

The wife and her girlfriend rode every lift at Big Sky/ Moonlight yesterday. Sounded like a really fun project for a Saturday with no new snow.
She said that the skiing in Liberty was awesome when they went there about noon. Wind smoothed and just softened enough by the sun. I'd expect the same from Marx/Lenin in the PM. She also said the north aspects were pretty firm and had been fucked up pretty bad by last week's wind. That's all I know.

This kind of puzzles me. The angular resolution of a human eye is ~0.07degrees, so at 30 miles the smallest feature you should really be able to resolve is like 200 feet. If I had to guess, what you probably saw was the contrast between snow above and below the crown, maybe highlighted by a shadow line (but south facing?). If the length of the crown was immense, like 1000-2000' across that SW face of of Fairview, then that would help.

Not trying to call you out at all, by the way. I'm just a giant science dork and this got me thinking. Just thought I'd share

dude youre golden. its been straight up spring weather here. 30s at nite. havent ridden big sky, but im sure its legit.. bulletproof on ramcharger/ anything on the darkside in the AM, but the obvious, Soco, Swifty, and Liberty as stated above are gonna be straight greasy.. PM me if you cant find a place to stay.

Nah, I went and had a peep at Cham, but changed my mind. This is the one lookers right just past the lake when you're at the trailhead. Road is drivable all the way to the houses. Trailhead is blocked by wind drifts. Thinking about heading back before the next storm, maybe check out Chamalama more thoroughly. Pretty variable conditions today, but still fun.

Well I don't actually know the distance from the Fairview area to Bridger. It is probably more like 20 miles now that I think about it. And I am not saying that is what it was. I also definitely think you can make out features smaller than 200 ft. on the Crazies from Bridger.

Again though, that is what it looked like, I didn't drive over to confirm, and didn't have a giant camera lens to snap a pic.

Sorry, yep all the way to the lake. There are some patches of mud, snow, or ice depending on weather and time of day, but the subie made it with no issues. Saw a Camry back there a few weeks ago.

Little Thunder and a couple of the Spirit Mountain Pomas were not open that day, but she would have had enough time.
She said it was sick and that you couldn't do it.
My wife is pretty much the best skier on Lone Peak and rips way harder than you.

Big Sky runs on rumor, little of it is 100% true

So I shared a chair on the triple today with a 20+ year patroller. He said this summer the Yellowstone Club was going to install their own tram to the summit.

No idea if I was being trolled or not.

That IS in fact on the drawing board. Not necessarily a tram, not necessarily to the TOP, but a lift in that direction. Also not necessarily a YC chair.

My prediction: They seriously consider it, and then realize that its too exposed on that face and will be too windy. The existing tram is in the only really viable spot. IMHO.
