Busy with work, but been out skiing, just haven't posted. Good snow on N facing aspects up high. Weak layers are lurking, keeping it mellow. Also found that there isn't enough snow a lot of other places, skinned up and down to Lake Blanche a week ago, still gonna take a couple storms. Resort skinning has been top notch though. Got out and climbed some ice yesterday, GWI isn't ready for skiing yet either. Sorry to wake the dude, Christmas bivying on the last pitch. Merry Christmas all!

    No swimming

Went up Willows today, Dug a pit on a NNW facing, 32 deg test slope at 9500 feet. That was enough to keep me off N facing aspects for some time now.

ECT Failed at 2 From the shoulder, clean q1 shear on

This obs is from yesterday Dec 27th. Dawn patrolled up griz to patsey. Dug a pit in upper patsey NE aspect. Scary complex and thin 90cm snowpack. Shovel shear gave an easy Q1 about 20 cm down. CT4Q1 on the same layer. CT14Q1 about 45-50 cm down. And also failures on the facets at the ground. ECT similar results with failures at the same layers but no real propagation. Lots of tracks in the face but no warm fuzzy from that. After further safety deliberations it was determined that the face was highly suspect, skiers left was especially windloaded, with it's only saving grace being that it's low angle. Stayed off the slab and ski cuts didn't produce. Turns are still creamy deluxe in the shade. Talked to some folks who skied the S aspect of fantasy and they said it was good although we didn't venture in that direction... Good morning to be out.

Decided to avoid Grizz/Patsey after cross referencing the last couple days reports with some other obs from people who'd been up. Above post confirmed what I was afraid of. Just took the access road beside and up through Alta to the Catherine's Pass area and poked around a bit. Crusty, collapsing, weird snow. Oh well, was a decent workout at least...

Toured yesterday with SFB and his spancer Mrs SFB. Had a visit at the icepalace and met one of the people that make TGR what it is. IRL good peeps all of them! Also got the vip tour of sillitude from SFB then headed out hiway, realized my fubared lower back doesn't like 16000 side steps to the right. After some stretching at tlp back on the skinner to east bowl. The south facing was a pretty burly crust thing going, maybe a corn cycle if this high pressure keeps up? Once around the corner into the shade hasty pits showed all we needed to see. Settled pow on top, a bit of a zipper crust and facet city below. Skied the trees and still had fun. Sure the snow is thin, a bit funky and it ain't the wahsnatch blower but enjoyment is a state of mind. Good peeps, good tour, good weather hard not to smile.

SFB yelled dropping right after I got this shot. Muthafugger straightlined this Rog would shit his pants.

^^^ way to make the most of conditions when they are toast.

Back up in grizzly dragging a crew of flatlanders who dont ski up on slowshoes. Winds picking up moving bunch of snow around. Spindrift off superior was impressive. Temps dropping. Pit on tlp ne facing ct20q1 fail on rime crust bout 10 inches down. Shovel shear popped there and another foot below that on a buried hoar layer. And a foot af facets at the ground.. Need snow badly.

First light for a few laps in Toledo today.

Met up with the rest of the crew and headed to Little Superior

"Bony" would be an appropriate word for up high.

"Wet" would be alright for down low. This broke at my feet, ran probably a couple hundred vert, only 2-3" thick, maybe 20 feet wide. It was still going in this shot.

some real nice early skiing/riding this morning in bcc, ne facing trees at mid elevation above 9k...6" of new at the time, winds and snow both started ramping up on our exit. didn't see any slabs forming...yet, since the winds were pretty calm last night and into the morning. snow did sluff a bit on our initial descents but wasn't significant and quite manageable. just one shitty phone shot.

have to imagine things will be changing dramatically throughout the day/storm with an increased load and significant winds. way fun though.
