Conditions at Solitude this AM: variable as a motherfucker. If you like rocks, ice, bumps, silky groomers and deep wind-deposited pow we got em all and you can experience all of them in about a 10-second span. Windy as fuck too.

In other news they are filming a McDonald's commercial here today. Doesn't seem like much of a day for it but hey. The amount of McD's food piled up in racks inside last Chance was astounding. Not sure what they were going to do with ~500 oreders of room-temperature fries, ~500 cold sandwiches and mountains of cold chicken nuggets but they weren't willing to give it away.

    I don't know -- maybe a busted water main?

It's on Wasatch Blvd. at about 90th South, West side of the road, about 1/4 mile South of the junction where Wasatch branches off of state route 210 and 1/2 mile North of the entrance to the La Caille restaurant.

nuking at Soli base right now. Storm came in a little later than forecast but I'd say at the moment it's snowing about as hard as it can snow, maybe 3 in/hr, and has been for about the last hour. Wind is really variable, drops to almost flat calm then builds to gusts of 30 or so. Gusts of 85 are predicted on the ridges so hold on I guess.

Sunday looks like a day that will get deeper as it goes, so no great rush in the AM, bed would be a good idea right about now but I'm way too fired up.

Skied BCC this morning NE aspect from about 9500 back to spruces. Storming and graupeling the whole time. SHITTY breaking trail hip flexors are trashed! Lower ridge had about 2 feet of snow and was super wind jacked. In our basin of interest more than double that and heavily wind loading from the NW. Talked to some folks who just finished a pit and their results matched with what we saw from stomping rolls and digging hand pits on the way up. Failing on the new snow/rime interface but with no energy. Facets on the ground not seeming reactive. The term "more bomber than expected" was used. The face we wanted to ski was getting heavily loaded with that NW wind nuking on the ridge so we backed off and skied the trees instead and no instabilities noted other than some sluffs and of course over the shoulder blower yeah yeah yeah

Skied this place a month ago and the exit was pretty sporty. Today it was legit pow turns all the way back to the car.

Safe travels to you SFB ....

rode NWish beartrap glades 9600' or so, very wind affected up top. New snow seemed to be the main instability in steeper sections, but with low propogation among the new snow.

disclaimer: i talked to a guy that dug a pit and stole his analysis. but yeah, it *seemed* more stable and less slabby than I expected.

brag: the turns were cierra cementy but super fun for a slow snow year

    decent coverage around 8700

You didn't happen to be in a group of 4 did you?

The OP took a terrible pic as It's hard to tell the slope angle, but I didn't think it looks as bad as he was saying

No I was in a group of 3 and it was today, that obs looks like it was from yesterday. There were a few spots on the skin trail up to the glades where an avy track crossed the skinner. Ended up bringing it up to the leader and going 1x1 through the consequential spots. This was after hearing about and seeing a lack of propagation in the new layer, so we were a bit less concerned over a wide slide.

Some spots up there certainly could slide big enough though, I think some people underestimate its danger.

ahh, 10-4. I still have my clock on TGR set for eastern time, so your post came up as "yesterday". shoot me a PM sometime when you're heading up there and I'd meet up with ya from the Can side.

I've seen a few different sections of BT slide over the years. usually small pockets, but they slide right into aspens. Very underestimated area in general.

hello wasatchians. heading your way next week and should be there for at least monday the 20th, maybe a bit longer. will probably have my dog with me so i'm interested in dog friendly tours. i know that rules out lcc but is the same true for bcc. also have a canyons pass so may ski there if i can find something for nacho to do during the day. any good doggy day care in the area or anyone want a buddy for their dog for the day?
    this is nacho

Any advice on an early May trip to SLC? Will any resorts still be open and or worth riding? BC options? Around here, May is usually pretty shitty.

Thinking about coming out with the wife while she is at a conference I will ski. Bikes could also be an option, or rock climbing if I could find a partner.

This....especially the way this winter is going. The Salt Lake 'metro' area has some bitching climbing and dirt.

I too will be bringing a little Nor Cal sunshine to the Beehive state next week. Will be there from the 18th-25th - staying in Cottonwood Heights and mainly skiing the Bird.

Powdork not sure if you are planning on doing any lift-served in LCC or BCC but if so PM me. I'll be with the family and the 1-year old so my schedule is somewhat fluid.

    powdork,
if you need a place for nacho for the day and can get him down to sandy we could prob watch him at our house. my lab is a little too old for playing but my mutt is (overly) friendly and always looking for some fun. fenced yard to run around.

I'm not sure if they provide all-day daycare, but Gulia (pronounced with a J) is awesome. worth giving her a ring and asking.

Someone laid a nice new skin track up the South face of Superior today. They didn't die. Interesting.
