anybody want a ride to squawlpine from the yay area on sunday?
This is ridiculous. 45 and sunny at the lake this Sunday.
I'm SUPing.

Anyone ever been to Red Mountain/Rossland or Whitewater/Nelson? My girlfriend and I are ditching this Tahoe weather crunk and cruising up there to check out their snowpack.
This is another longshot, but just wondering if anyone knows any cheap places to stay or how to get cheap-ish tickets to shred.
If your gonna drive that far you might as well head for Nelson an revels toke, way better terrain and storm track

Kirkwood yesterday....
...may post some more later
Definitely hit up revelstoke. When your looking for food after skiing head down to the village idiot. Great spot.
Check out some b and b's. Its still early so they should be reasonably priced.
Go to liftopia for ticket deals if u can't find anything in town.

Ther is good skiing to be had out ther in the usual early spots but just be willing to get some adventure on.
Do any if you fine folk have any hand me down kids twin tips 125-140 cm they want to part with???
Check airbnb.com for some decent deals on crashing in Nelson. Also if you are into b/c - you can get a b/c pass at Whitewater. There is some killer access out there, though I don't know what the pack is like these days.
Revelstoke is pretty solid -- though if your trekking from CA I would say Nelson area is the secret gem.
Any word on the BC in tahoe these days? Was thinking of getting my legs up to speed this weekend but not sure its worth it at the expense of my cores.
^^ i would check the tahoe thread...

^^ apologies -- any more recent updates. Is it only sheltered gullies or have the north aspect trees got any love.
some trees are okay, but the deadfall lies amongst the trees and that is the main drawback.

^^ Fair enough -- thanks for the beta powdork. Anyone hit Tellack yet?
I posted a Kirkwood current conditions blog on snowbrains...it's beyond epic!

Found a couple good spots up by Mt Rose Summit, but its few and far between. Low angle and smooth (I think DG underneath). North facing only.
But there was also a decent amount up near castle peak. Still mostly just north facing though. I think south lake has more snow. The southern sierras might be getting better too. There was tons of snow in the high sierra around thanksgiving.
If you're spending the money to drive all the way up there, it's worth spending a day skiing with Big Red Cats. If you call them a day or 2 before you can often jump on a cat for $199, which is a STEAL. The ski area is great, but the cat skiing is something you will never forget.
When I went up there I just stayed at Casa Alpina in Rossland, which kind of sucks but it's a warm bed for $75 a night and they do have a hot tub.
If any south lake mags wanna go to TAFF and can't find a ticket, we have 1 extra ticket at our table. Send me a text 818 six seven nine 8552.
