    WROD Up

    ScruffySkittles!
Time to hit up the WROD!
There's a coupla Buses headed to Kirkwood on Saturday.

Wonder if they'll open more than just 5? (Rumoured, but prolly only 11 I bet)
Wonder if there'll be enough (forecasted) snow to give us problems getting there?
(I'd be totally OK with NoStars in WROD season)

i'm on the south shore so i won't be getting a pass there that i can foresee, but i have a climbing buddy that works there and will definitely be taking her up on some buddy passes and spend some money in their lodge even.

found some good snow up by Mt Rose today. Must be a very even ground surface because rocks were huge obvious lumps in the terrain. This will be prime after the next storm. Fairly low angle but at least its good to get some turns.Click image for larger version.

+1 on requesting this info. The gf and I are planning a tahoe and southern sierra's trip in her dad's Synco.

Hope this puts some pressure on other resorts.
FTMFW no doubt. I was just trying to figure out where to give some new touring boots an uphill spin.

Not sure about Sugarbowl, but you can park next to the statue in the Boreal parking lot overnight. At least you could from 2000-2010. Doubt they've changed the rules. They'll plow around you so be ready to shovel in the morning...

It's about ten minutes from there to Sugarbowl in the morning. Not the same as rolling out of bed and walking to the chair, but not too far off.

The dirt lot across from Donner Ski Ranch should work. It's much closer.

If you propose, that would make a sweet dowry.

For anyone considering camping as an alternative to pricey hotels, check out the Après Ski Club in Kings Beach.
    www.apres.org
It's got bunks and a few private rooms, kitchen, hot tub etc and only $20-30 a night for the dorm beds. There's a membership fee, but new members are only $35 and you get a $20 voucher so it is very feasible. You also save enough off the guest rate to pay for the membership with three nights' stay. Also, for anyone not into tons of screaming kids, it's 21 and up only.
I've stayed there when my AirBnB guests overlap with my days off and sometimes just go down for the really nice hot tub and company.

Dumpage finally comes to CA! Too bad the pattern after that looks to send most of the big storms to the PNW. I always had a thing for blue. Click image for larger version.

    NWS getting downright poetic

ANOTHER INGREDIENT INVOLVED IS THE OPTIMAL "SNOW GROWTH" ZONE OF -10 TO -20 CELSIUS WHICH WILL BE LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CLOUD DECK. THIS WILL LEAD TO EFFICIENT DENDRITIC SNOW GROWTH AND HIGH LIQUID TO SNOW RATIOS OF 20 OR 25 TO 1.

    Pun intended?

There will definitely be rocks tomorrow, a foot plus of blower on top of not much will almost certainly mean someone will sacrifice some equipment in search of pow.
Hopefully nothing more, its still way early season, stay safe out there folks!

This. In similar conditions a few years back at Sugarbowl I put a lengthy coreshot in a new pair of Protests, and did an involuntary 15 foot front flip/dive. Luckily I didn't land on a rock. Probably would have broken a lesser ski...

You all can have fun in blower on rocks, I'm going mountain biking. Don't need to break my neck twice in one year.

Ya I'm glad to be away from home this week, I don't need any more influence to destroy myself or any more gear. Be safe out there!
In non related news Bridget. Bowl opening day today was epic! All open with a 5 ft base and the minus 17 scared away the crowds leaving tons of pow laps bell to bell.

Hope these storms keep on coming we need way more that a ft of 5% to be game on

Ah yes but there should be more like 2', and sugar bowl has better coverage than anyone.
