i saw that in the couloir thread too. i've never heard of it, and there are no 3,500' descents anywhere between squaw and sugar bowl and those trees on the lower flanks are not of this area.

As in there is ski stoke instead of folks whining about lack of snow. Good fix.

DK, I dealt (mostly) with a frozen pipe issue. My buddy left the water in the house on. Usually, this time of year, it gets turned off when the house is vacant, due to no/low snow coverage around the base of the house. Anyway, I set up a space heater, plugged some vents, and cranked the house heat. It thawed nicely during the day Sunday. And then I discovered the leak. The fun part is the main valve is so old, it would not close completely. Set up buckets, and hoped the utility would show up soon. Turns out the shut off was buried right below where I was standing dealing with everything.

My attempt at fixing the forum. Powdork descends into Big B. More to come.

There is more than meadow skipping out there.

I'd love to see the article or wherever that was posted - it doesn't look like 3500', and it doesn't look like Tahoe. Looks a lot more like something you'd find off of Smuggler's Notch Pass or Conway out east.

I'm probably talking out of my ass but I swear I've seen that with a description as being in sled ski terrain. Like out past Barker Pass or something. Like I said, probably talking out of my ass but it definitely looks familiar.

Source is about as legit as you can get (huckasoreass). It has to be in upper royal gorge above headwaters of N. Fork of the american river. Due west of tinkers knob. There are some big ass cliffs out there.

I am guessing Terminal Cancer in the Rubies. I skinned past it last winter.

but not 3,500' cliffs or even anything close, unless you move down to snow mountain, and that would put the bottom at 4,000'. Add to that the additional height of the peak to the left and that would put the relief at well over 4,000' which isn't there. Nothing about it looks like tahoe. I could be wrong though. and it's not terminal cancer either, though it does look like the rubies.

It's about 3,500' and is an easy approach on the looker's right shoulder (out of frame), then around the back. It goes top to bottom. Oldtimer and I got it twice in one day a couple of years back in picture perfect powder.

If anyone wants to rip some piste tomorrow at the wood give me a holler. I need to get my day one fix, so I can spend Saturday skiing with the 5 year old.

There is a 3000 + Ft couloir of Snow mnt, southish facing going into the american river canyon. It rarely fills in to the bottom though, and because of exposure and orientation isn't usually skiable til the spring. But this isn't it...

yeah, that was my thought too. Where do we have any vertical relief of that size or cliffs that look like that? Just dreaming and wondering a bit, now that I've had a taste of winter.

Oh, definitely not the RUUBs. Its not terminal cancer, and the vegetation is quite wrong.

Bring something to compliment the race boards. The free skiing is pretty good right now.

Unless it could be out by the rubicon or hell hole reservoir? Maybe off McKinstry Peak

Okay, a few more, for ya to get an idea of what it is like out there.

Spent the first hour of the morning racking up some epic vertical. Got a nice view of the fingers.

Then we went else where and found snow. Tested the low angle first.

    And the trees.

Cali Chute apron looks a bit thin yet.

Meanwhile, Patrol writes VAIL down Monte's

And then it was time to head home. Seemed like it was worth it.

    More pics and story here.

that's the other thing. if that's snow mountain, that ice would be at roughly 4,800' and facing southish.

I was noticing that ice too. Does not look like the stair-stepped low angle natural flows of the region. And what are those alder looking trees?? It's possible they could be some lower elevation species but nothing that grows much around the basin.

Kirkwood update. 3 main groomers but are in damn nice condition....buckboard off 11, and Lowe Zach's and Outlaw. They turned off the guns on upper Zach's around 10am as it's a bit warm today. It looks like they should be able groom it sooner than later but it looks like most of the natural snow on the upper mountain got killed by the East winds. So I doubt any offpiste will be available up there until the next big storm.

Offpiste terrain includes anything off of 5 and most stuff off of 11, albeit a tad lower traverse than regular, but coverage is quite good under Norms. It's getting a bit bumpy and you through the tops of the little trees, but snow is good and quite fun.

Groomed trails at Heavenly, Comet, Dipper, and Tamarack were excellent the last couple days fwiw. Skied all day both days. They have made a lot of snow there.
