...and 80 is an absolute shitshow. Who woulda thunk it?
Thanks for the beta.
14" on the ground in town in South Lake.
It snowed heavily for several hours but seems to be winding down now. Temps were in the mid 20s and with some wind, things seem denser than I was expecting.

I don't know how to do images from the phone, but the link works. It's wetter than Tuesday's snow, but still pretty dry for Tahoe.

6" of low density fluff here in NW Reno. One more wet storm and I might start poking around in the b.c.
Hey guys. So. Hopefully this is the right thread. I work as a forester in the summer time and have been a full time instructor at Squaw for 4 of the last 5 years. But this year, myself and my potential roommate both had good summer seasons for work and didn't get back to Tahoe until this week. We have been having a hell of a time finding housing for the season and most ski leases have been snatched up by Bay Area folk.
If anyone has a lead on a house for some instructors (I know there are more people I can add in to offset costs, finding roommates is never as big an issue as finding a room) or just a room for myself (and my pal if there is space), it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
And hopefully all of you are enjoying the foot of fresh that fell over night while I'm trying to find a place to live.
Anyone got photogs from the morning to share yet? Im dying to know what its like out there. Getting restless in my armchair here.
Kirkwood patrol said they weren't gonna open 6 til later this week. 11 may be open now but wasn't for most of the morning. It was deep at 12:30 when I left.
Go Sox!
N.B. Sugar Bowl uphill use is prohibited while avalanche control is underway. Entirely sensible, but not included under the "policy" section of their policy document; it's in the "hazards" fine print that, of course, nobody reads. Seems that nobody on the mountain knew that as I skinned by numerous patrollers this morning. I was assuming that the allowed routes kept one clear of control activities, but one charge/release on that small face halfway up Lincoln sure woke me up.
In retrospect, it's obvious that it was at least a big liability for me to be on the mountain at that time, if not outright dangerous (I felt safe enough, but it wouldn't be too hard to get into trouble).
So there are some details/awareness to be worked out, but it's great to see them take the initiative on this.
And coverage up there is getting close, but still thin for my tastes. This last shot stuck better than I expected.
would anyone have any interest in a 1st annual 'Skin to Win' party tomorrow at Sugar Bowl. Just trying to gauge interest before I try to organize something.

I took a little stroll around Hope Valley this afternoon. It was cold, windy, and Colorado-y. There was a nice inverted snowpack and some shooting cracks from breaking trail. Skintrack depth was 1-2 feet--not quite enough to free me from thrashing through some underbrush.
It was really cold--like big gloves and hood up while skinning furiously cold. Still, it was good to get out. I ran into a Kirkwood employee on 88 after my car stalled and needed a jumpstart, and he said they are claiming 2.5 feet there.

Ice cream headache-style cold at Squaw today. Lent my helmet liner to my ski buddy because I'm kind like that. Snowing and blowing like crazy for most of the morning and then it mellowed out in the afternoon. They ran Red Dog, Squaw Creek, bottom of Exhibition, Funi (which we had to download), and Gold Coast. Mountain run looks ready to go, but ungroomed. I bet tomorrow or sometime this coming week.
Ventured off the groomers in a few places where it appeared unlikely to hit anything (and didn't). Skied well, but a little heavier than expected--probably from the wind. Still tons of obviously obstacles. Like BGNight said, I would wait for one more decent storm before doing much outside of groomers or known grassy areas. A fun day though, including skiing with The Dad for a couple of runs.
Bombing on KT here and there during the day. This cold stuff isn't the best base-building snow. Let's hope we get some more next week/weekend.
Running over rocks is fun. I had fun.
Snow is as light as I've seen it here, promoting a serious "sink to the bottom" effect. So fun though.
Looking uphill, Surprised by how limited the coverage is up high despite the 3+ feet we got. Hey but snow is good, so gotta be happy this week. Good start.
the skiing would have been ridiculous if there was a base, but on the skin up the skis would get stuck under trees you had no idea were there so the skiing was tentative instead. it still snowing and still settling at the end so maybe tomorrow will be better

seems odd the Squaw has only Goldcoast up high, while Sugar Bowl has good coverage on Lincoln groomers, and is running Disney today. And where's AM? One more example of KSL thumbing their nose at locals?
