Ended up in breck today which is crowded but still fun. Hard to leave home though, dumping so hard from Estes to ward. Vis def less than 1/4 mile. Rmnp was prob pretty sweet today. Had like 3" on the car this morning of light light snow and it was dumping. Then I got to summit...

dumping here near salida and it never snows here. monarch got a foot on top of three feet over the last few days. things are coming around.
as a mt. pilot, i would guess it isn't the weather in denver but the mt. destinations that are gumming things up. j

Well it's not going to get better...

Nice snow at copper. More like 7-9" up top. Reso and Spaulding both nice. Mountain chief still pretty thin. Rocks poking out everywhere

EDIT: CO can't catch a fucking break this year. The "big storm" that will "gain strength" didn't. Instead it doglegs around the entire state and slams Denver....

same boat here but from SEA. My favorite part is how their system put us on a later flight when I checked status so we still went to the airport... that flight was overbooked by ~100 people... and is now cancelled anyway. Waste of a trip to the airport, offsite LT parking, shuttle to the airport, wait in line... then said fuckit once we got to the desk and went for the first flight out tomorrow - I hope that one goes.

Had a fun day at the beav. Ended up being about 6" by opening in most spots. Took some sidecountry laps in alta chutes which were DEEP and with decent coverage. Upper stone creek ski'd well too. All in all no complaints as I didn't wait in a single line all day.

I love how this thread basically went from being a weather discussion to "let's take the snow report, times it by 2, then report how epic and deep everything is" type of thread. Most places 6 inches or under except for san juans and monarch half of which fell during the day yesterday. The snow was good yesterday and today, but not "deep", lol

Sidecountry was awesome thanks to several days in a row of snow, overnight pow, and snow all day. Scared what traffic will be for the front rangers

Wifes SWA flight last night was cancelled from Phx to Denver but she was able to get a USAir flight. Think it was based on where flight was coming from Now she is stuck in Dtown.

Oh yeah, the Beav was pretty damn good today but I broke the tip of my Kendu in Royal Elk. Don't know how. Gonna check the one-ski thread.

Vail today was a mixed bag. Some runs were skiing nice other were horrendous. 2-4" over bumps, crud, you name it. Trees were the order of the day. Anything wide open besides VERY few exceptions was terrible. Everyone was just getting beat up by all the rubble underneath the "powder". I manged to score a few gems though. Generally the Bowls are trashed and skiing poorly. Only a few faces on select aspects are skiing very nice. Look for the trees. I did not even go to blue sky. From afar looked like a madhouse.

But hey, what can you do. Thats what happens when you get a large number of skiers and a small amount of snow. Vail needs about a foot of snow to heal. or more.

Based on sidecountry, it needs more than a foot, probably two, and it needs to come without spring thaw right after.

They tried to put us on others today, all of which have been canceled. Still one more connecting through Oakland about 300 miles out of our way, but it will probably get canceled or is way over booked. We went for the 6 AM nonstop tomorrow in the hopes they get their shit together. United and Frontier are not having problems. I wonder if the 737's are too small for the weather?

So far we will only miss one session of our conference, but if we don't get there in the AM i will bag it and to drive to Mammoth for the week.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Currently stuck in DC on our way back from Chamonix. Been rebooked 3 times now our flight is delayed but they say its still going out tonight. I just hope my skis aren't still in France somewhere when the dust settles. I don't care what the reality is anymore someone just lie to me and tell me it's great everywhere.

This thread should be renamed "I skied today or I might ski tomorrow or I am coming home from skiing or I am mad about not being able to get to/from skiing."

In my day we just went skiing and saved the press releases for things like Pearl Harbor and the Lindbergh baby.

Whatever Ernest, back in your day you skied a combination of dirt/rocks/grass and ice in the Alps with cable bindings and 20 foot long skis that gave you an instant spiral fracture of your tib/fib if things got weird. But you only usually took one run before drinking yourself into a stupor and trying to make nice with some frau at the local inn. So you are no more "core" than any of us.

In other news, Beav skied well. Has anyone remembered a storm that was projected to drop double digits overnight AND ACTUALLY DELIVERED? I sure don't. All the really big days are huge surprises to the upside. Next time I see a forecast of 6-10 for EC from any source, I'm sleeping in.

I think Ajax was the call. Hit Snowmass for a few reasons. I think the upper mountain got a bit wind whipped.

Monarch was amazing today, but fairly crowded. Blue skies when we pulled in at 8:15am, then it started dumping around noon and was still coming down hard when we left around 3pm. Mirkwood turns were really deep. Crazy 60+mph E/SE winds at the top of Mirkwood after the storm rolled back in. Tomorrow will still be very good down there.

You're welcome to post all the stoke you want, but personally I'd rather hear the real scoop that you can't get on the news or any of the various reports. The post that cmsummit made above is fairly unique to tgr as far as I know, and the kind of thing I would like to read when pondering a day off of work, 6 hours on the road and a $60 ticket.
