I’m drinking the Kool Aid and becoming very bullish for Sunday AM. NW flow. Lots of moisture. Cold temps. Storm track looks like a direct strike. Soft base. Big accumulation potential across the board.

Vail and the ‘Boat could go off.

Guess you're talking about the Summit Daily? I didn't pick one up this morning. Just searched their website and there's an article but it's real short with no real info. - The tracks pretty much tell the story. Inbounds slide at A Basin on Saturday too. Report's up on the CAIC:

    https://avalanche.state.co.us/acc/ac...rep&acc_id=490

    Be careful out there, folks.

But, he'd already tested it by putting in a skin track that traversed the whole slope.

That shit cray. But I'm not understanding what the hell happened. Seems like this dude should have been toast. Did he not get carried? Did he stop at the crown, ski down the slide path and hike back up to ski the other line out? WTF.

Anybody admitting to being that guy? I would sure be interested in knowing what happened.

Comments: It looks like the skier may have triggered it remotely on a kick turn near the ridge...then continued up to the top. Then skied down to the fracture line. The skier made about 7 turns on the bed surface, then cut hard right back out on the ridge and skies the southeast face.
Avalanche propagated widely in the bowl below the chute.
Lucky, lucky bastard. The route he takes back to the ridge below the rest of the hangfire is an interesting choice.

Given the other option of skiing down (see the terrain), seems pretty reasonable to me.

Dropping the same bowl that you just remotely triggered from above seems reasonable? Not like there was a ridgeline the person could've followed or anything.

Completely different aspect and slope angle.

Seems like a sick line to me. He probably just ski cut it like a boss and got it to slide.

If it was remotely triggered then it would make sense to maybe ski up on the slide and potentially make a couple turns in the slide path before you could stop and realize what you were on.

he's talking about the fact that the person clearly skied down the slide path and then traversed directly below the hangfire from the slide they just remotely triggered on the same slope. not the tracks coming down the other face.

I understand that, but the only other option would be to ski it to the road on the bed surface, climb up to the crown/hangfire, or traverse (likely bootpack) the bed surface and GTFO. I'd say given her position, she chose correctly.

What would you have done if you were her (at that point in time)? This should be moved to the SZ.

Yep, created a new thread in SZ. Deleted my post with photos from here. Let's move any future conversation, debate, bullshit over to there.
