I'm guessing patrol, since I saw your guys and Big Sky's guys out in the cirque yesterday setting up a rescue cache and reflagging the evac route.

Well, probably Madison co s&r coordinating things, but BS/MB patrol would be first responders, and my understanding is patrol/s&r crossover is high, so they would be there for the long haul, eh?
I think the potato gun proved the stability.

That is the impression I was afraid of.

I think you should re-read the signage at the gates.

Everything that happens in terms of SAR on public lands is under the jurisdiction of the County Sheriff.

If we get a distress call from outside our area we call 911 and relay that information to them.

They take over the management of the incident and may request aid from Big Sky/MLB in the form of a fast response team.

Once the Sheriff makes the request it is up to our management (my bosses) to say yes/no and place limits on what that response will mean to our normal operations. (how many people we can spare). Then the wheels will begin to turn.

At that point we will send help. This could take a while and it could possibly take up to a couple of hours to put rescuers on a scene. Even one as close as Lone Lake.

If we feel the route in from the top is not safe, we are not entering that way and will have to come in from the bottom and that means more time.

Sheesh Bunion give me a little credit. You asked who I thought the responding party would be and you pretty much confirmed it would be you guys. I am aware of the SAR red tape and don't go out there relying on you guys by any stretch of the imagination. I've read the fucking sign plenty of times

Nope, we have no earthly reason to respond to Beehive Basin. Totally different deal entirely.

O.K. cause I wasn't sure you had the ability to read.

To answer Bunions question: I am an inbounds guy, but I have read the exit signs at both Big Sky and Moonlight, and the signs make it very clear that the Sheriffs Dept. will be the responding party, not ski patrol.

Care to elaborate Eco? Was this poor fella skiing or snowshoeing?

Thought I would contribute some stoke for the first time in a while. Here is a shot Chris Kamman took earlier this week. I would never be able to ride this stuff without the knowledge that Bunion and his crew are ready to respond at the drop of a hat. Totally joking. Don't ask me where this is and if you know please don't say. Fairly obvious though.

Going home drops back into the Beehive side. It is one of the last very prominent gullies on the way out. It has prayer flags at the top.

OK, I know where that is.

I just don't know any names for anything. I snowshoe up and down the main Beehive trail quite a bit. I am old and fat and do my skiing on area where Bunion will come get me when I fuck up.

Anybody skinned/skied Maid of the Mist recently and willing to share any beta? How's the route to the top? Things to avoid, etc?

Pisser is I drove out to L&C to take advantage of this nice day and there was too much snow and muck to ride off road.

Pretty woody getting up to Maid of the Mist is an understatement. No one should ever go up there by the route we took. Good trip though.

SNOW! Finally. 18cm/7" from 4:00 up to close today.

It feels good to ski something soft.

Thanks to whoever it was that showed me around a little bit last Monday. Finally did 3 tram laps, unfortunately late in the day. Last Sunday and Monday were good. Great turns under Challenger with some fun air off the rocks with Lenin and Marx not too bad either. Didn't get ballsy enough to get out to Dictator or the other sick lines over there.
Felt bad for about a millisecond for the guy who took his "rental" skis off and was trying to climb back up to the patrol at the top of Challenger, getting heckled by the patroller

Anybody getting out for a mellow tour Tuesday? I would like to tag along if anyone is going out. I have all the tools but lack knowledge, looking to learn.

I'm up in Big Sky in the same situation as you. Looks like snow for the next few days but I would be down to get out on something mellow once that calms down a bit.

Hopefully still some left when we get out there 2/24. I get something for either the dog contingent or the patrol every year I'm out.

    Sooooo antsy now...
