Does anyone have any of those cheapo 3D glasses they can part with?
any one riding the lake tomorrow?
I'm going to Calgary Mar 24 and am considered spending Friday in Fernie. Any surprise holidays or anything else I should be aware of?
Just got back from the Lake.... still soft, but the pow is long gone. Why do all these Calgarians have weekdays off? ;-)
Neither Whitehorn 2 nor Boomerang opened today - so tomorrow should be great if they drop the rope.
On another note - I had the pleasure of watching 2 snowboarders poach ER5 top to bottom. Not surprisingly they were riding right next to each other, and I'm guessing had no idea they were cruising past multiple crowns. There was a heli and ambulance pulling in right around 4pm (after I was off the hill), so hopefully the shit didn't hit the fan.
From today's Banff avy report:
"The deep facets in the Rockies snowpack are awake again, and are responsible for numerous size 3 and 4 avalanches in the last 48-hours. Avalanches starting in the upper snowpack are stepping down into the base of the snowpack."
Weird that this layer has awoken. Just the overall increase in the snow load I suppose.
Alot of load in such a short amount of time, no suprise that it's woken up under the stress.Weird that this layer has awoken. Just the overall increase in the snow load I suppose.
Thanks for not finding the stashes.still soft, but the pow is long gone
Decided 5 days straight of sick deep pow was enough, and let someone else get some today. Also edited up the footage I got:
This is part 1, the more fun, chill conservative lines. In part 2, I eat shit many times, so you'll get your fill of that.
They heli-bombed the dive today. I wasn't working, but I hear they got the rest of Fat Boy to go to ground, galaxy 3-6 went to ground, and there is a tonne of debris![]()
"...if you're not doing a double flip cork something, skiing spines in Haines, or doing double flip cork somethings off spines in Haines, you're pretty much just gaping."
Saw that . terrible news. We set off a size 2 today with a ski cut far skiers right of the west. First crown was storm snow then down to the v day layer and then down to basal facets in one spot i could see. Very touchy. I had no interest in dropping into that line but one member of the party wanted to drop in regardless of our observations. Spooky made the cut, remote triggered the first slab which took out the whole slope below. I think spooky and i got our point across to the other party member pretty quick.

I've never been there. Looks gnarly. Bet you were fumbling to get your camera out in time for that pic eh. would have been sweet to have gopro footage.
part 2:
Good on ya, it's a damned good thing your ski cut worked other wise he probably wouldn't have taken your concerns seriously. Be really careful with ski cutting right now, stuff is pulling up higher than you might think and may suprise you which would suck but with that said it probably saved his ass.
We agreed to go have a look at the zone on the basis that we could, and would, turn around at any point if anyone in the group was feeling uncomfortable. The cut pretty much released it from a flat shelf above at which point we made our way out and skied turn by turn through some tight mellow trees.
As for fumbling with a camera to get the shot that would have been the last thing on my mind - just happened to have the GoPro set for pics.
