chris from snowforecast is suggesting the pattern change we've all been waiting for...

"We have been talking about a change over to unsettled and much more "snowy" weather for the western US around/ after the 15th of January. That is still on track for the whole western US. The storms will begin affecting the northwest US just after this weekend, then sag southward with an arctic cold front pushing south through the US and offshore of the northwest US (this is key to picking up Pacific moisture). At the same time a significant high pressure ridge may build in over western Alaska, and an undercutting jet stream could push mid-Pacific moisture (significant) in across the west coast and western US. Tahoe should start seeing storms around the 18th/ 19th, with snow levels possibly a close call at first. The first storms will probably carry in some wet base building snow for Tahoe. Colorado with its elevation should not have any issues, but Utah may have snow level issues at first like Tahoe. Southern California may be just south of the snow potential for now, but we will update. More detail will be added regarding this by Wednesday morning. We know you all have been waiting for some good news, so here it is. "

snowforecast are normallly sunshine pumpers....so take it with a grain of salt. What I've seen is a stomr track not in Canada anymore but not over CO either. Question will be will it sag south enough for CO to get good snow.

Duh, if anyone else would have followed the bama-long range snowfall prediction model, coupled with the Tebow-forecast, they would have known this shit a long time ago.

This AM is the little storm that could.

Some big flakes earlier, reminded me of the last time there was some crazy uplift or whatever in the Colorado River Valley that caused a short intense dump that hit Beaver best.

Snowing all day on Vail. My day got cut short b/c of some nasty frostbite on my feet. I need some better liners for my new boots. 11 was skiing excellent, minus the rocks I hit that I don't care about anymore.

There was an inch or so W of CB on top of a 3' ish base where I never bottomed out once but still plenty of exposed lumber to run into - real nice supportable boot high pow on top where we looked hard enough. Fun day but cold like NE with temps/wind. Really enjoying visit from East Coast and conditions are a lot better in the BC than I thought they would be.

Upper Snatch got some snow on it? Secret chutes? How cold was it? My feet have never gotten cold since I went to powerwraps. Bootlab has them, they can mold them but the service can be from good to fuck-you-I-will-take-them home-and-mold-them-thanks-anyways.

Anyone know what the snowpack is like around Silverton area? Hard, soft, spring-like?

Avy danger looks Low/Moderate and just wondering if the snowpack is that shit sugar facet or perhaps maybe some 'big line' snow.

Cheering the end of the blocking pattern is way more exciting than that silly BCS safety kick championship match

It snowed between about 5:00 AM and noon yesterday if that helps any. Couldn't get out to ride, but believable number from the good 4 inches or more in my driveway.

    Is this guy right?

I read this guy's blog a lot, and have tended to as I usually go on trips out in the Sierra region more frequently.

    That being said, two questions.

One: Does he know what he's talking about? (I think he does).

    http://tahoeweatherdiscussion.com/

    Two:

If the block shifts north in a manner that benefits NV, does that mean the storms will basically be on a good track to hit the middle CO resorts as well? (Aspen/Snowmass, to be specific)

Please forgive me, but I'm a midwesterner and quite frankly I can't tell any of you people apart.

    That's right. You people.
