Anyone see a stormier pattern starting around the 10th? I'm looking but not seeing it.

the GFS still showing nothing impressive out to the 20th, but those things aren't too reliable past 5 days or so. I imagine if we can just get the jet stream shift we're gonna be lookin pretty good.

On a side note, went out today and there was a full foot of rotted out faceted snow underneath the new snow we got recently, felt pretty sweet skiing through it, but once we get a big dump It's going to be super sketchy out there with some spots running to the ground.

They opened Prima later in the day. Got one good run before it got tracked out. Nice n soft with a light crunch underneath. Made me feel not so bad for sleeping in.

Out early with Pappa G and the Vail Players Club and it was a solid 9" almost everywhere above chair 2. Great day for testing out the new Bibby's.

last week during his weather chat Joel didn't seem impressed with a pattern change. Actually said something like "late December" or "first ofo the year" but both of those are way to far out. Just need this jet to get together.

Pattern change? Not the 10th. This week looks dry, as does early next week. First hints of a more west or northwest flow into Colorado look to be around the 17th-ish. My gut says that the holidays could be the time when things start getting really fun, but that's just a gut feel. In my experience, a full-on pattern change usually takes longer to materialize than many of the models first hint at.

The 9" at Vail on Saturday night was super surprising. The atmosphere was moist and the temperatures were right for nice dendrites to fall, but hard to predict that a weak wave (storm) would move through late Saturday evening and lift the atmosphere enough to crank out that snow. Some surprises are good...

In other news, Wolf Creek does it again. I had a good feeling of a powder weekend down there, but 30" is definitely more than anyone was willing to forecast. When things go well there, any amount is possible.

It'd be fine if there were terrain to ski, but we have so little open and almost no bc ready to go. It better freakin snow before the busiest week of the year.

Vail was super fun on Sunday. Some zones skied deeper than the reported 9 inches. Sounds like these are going to be the last inbounds powder turns for a while though.

Damn't I need to move closer to Wolf Creek. This Copper/WP/Boat pass has been a poor choice so far too. Should have went for Eldo lol.

hiked horseshoe at Breck. Not great, but not bad either. it'll do for now. Exercise and some decent turns, a little rocky underneath but some decent snow on top. whatever.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Also hiked horseshoe yesterday and it wasn't too bad. Didn't hit much underneath and the snow was fun. Dry for a while, thought mid/late next week looks like things finally start to line up. Maybe...

Also, this is a really interesting article on the Telluride / Bear Creek backcountry situation. Maybe a 10-15 minute read, but worth it I think: http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor...-Monopoly.html

They let you hike it before the tee bar opens? do they just treat it as BC right now?

@skiracer88_00 - patrol opened small sections of the southern part of Horseshoe (contest) around noon for a few hours. They said likely only on the weekdays so there's not a sh!tstorm of people in there on the weekends.

Middle of next week could see a good storm, too early to tell if it favors south, north, all, etc.

After that, storm track *could* drop south to hit northern Colorado pretty hard, but that's just a hair better than a guess right now.

At least we're not dealing with this: http://www.pri.org/stories/science/e...ocks-7267.html

No, you can hike it without equipment. They just have 2 patrollers on the way up to guide you where to go. I had some good turns in contest bowl, some meh turns in horseshoe.
