ROLL TIDE ROLL
Joel-
I want you to commend you on your efforts, the work you do is a tremendous help to the rest of us.
Some things to think abotu for the next design change:
I miss the old "5 mountains" forecast, Intrawest etc. It was so quick and easy.
I'm looking for the longer range forecast and not what the weather conditions are right now, which is what the default seems to be. Then, when I click on "Snow Forecast" it only shows limited information. For instance Its currently Friday Mid morning, The "snow forecast" only shows through Saturday night.
The only way to see the long range forecast is to click "details" for each and every place you want to check. Even if I'm not going to be skiing echo, it was cool to see how the storm came through there vs. winterpark etc.
Whenever I go to 'opensnow.com', it takes me to the home page, even though it recognizes me by my login name. It should not go to the home page, if the site is smart enough to recognize it's me, it should be smart enough to pull up my dashboard. I don't want to have to click a link to get to my dashboard.
+1, I don't want to see the current weather either. The first thing I want to see EVERY TIME I go to opensnow.com is the 5-day snow forecast for each of my 'Favorite' mountains (providing cookies have saved my login).
Something tells me you're working on this, anyway, but it HAS to be a top priority to put this information on the opening page.
The second piece of information I want to see, is the 5-day snow forecast for all all resorts within "reasonable" driving distance. This should be as simple as clicking ONE link from the opening page. Note that mountains nearby doesn't necessarily mean all the mountains in my state. They just mean all the mountains that I could conceivably ski in a weekend trip, just in case my favorites are getting skunked, and I have a hankering for fresh snow.
The third piece of information I want to see, is the Daily Snow blog entry for my region. This ALSO should be as simple from clicking ONE link from the opening page.
Lastly, get rid of the 'Feedback' sidebar, or at least give me an option to turn it off (and access it via a link at the bottom or top of the page, instead). It's distracting and covers some of the text I'm trying to read (in the Daily Snow), so I have to scroll around it to actually read everything - pain in the ass.

Joel: Keep working on the interface, it needs work. It's harder to find information than the old site. Thanks for the hard work, we need the forecasting! Also, why call the blog daily snow instead of Colorado Powder Forecast? Why not move CPF to being a blog (instead of the daily snow) instead of eliminating it all together??

The old CPF format was so basic and told you everything you wanted to know while offering links for more info. Now, I have to Login, click Snow Forecasts (to get only a couple days), click details for 5 day, click Forecasts and Reports, and select Colorado. That's 5 steps to get all the info that was on the CPF page.

In other weather news, at my house on Maui we had .58 inches of rain overnight with more on the way, snow on top of the big island and .69 inches up in the east Maui rain forrest. This translated to POWDER a week to ten days later in Co. last winter, Let's see!
keep that warm ass pineapple shit out of CO.....now if we can get some cold air, you can send the moisture.

it"s cold now but we had 5 days of rain last year with that warm crap

the pass has been thin and I don't think VP will do great with this storm. The flow is SW to start and then W when the cold front shifts, maybe NW but even then it would be W-NW.

Joel - I echo many of the comments here about OpenSnow. I miss CPF! Having big dreams is great (see Steve Jobs), but don't fix what ain't broken either (see Netflix).
The best thing about CPF was the personalized info. I.e. your educated and gut take on the forecast. Once it's translated out into snow totals for every single fricken resort, it seems exactly like all the other "weather sites." You do a really good job of explaining how complex and random the weather is and then you go and contradict your self by predicting exact totals at every resort. (Many of which are within a few miles of each other or have 4k vertical so the amounts may double within the resort).
Think about a narrative forecast that explains what you think will happen in each zone rather than being so focused on each resort. This will really help us backcountry skiers, too.
To be honest, I hope you keep posting on TGR because your input here is better right now than anything I'm getting from OpenSnow.
Don't want to log in. Don't want to authorize FB to give you everything. Want to see your most recent personal update first and foremost.
One last thing. The absolute BEST thing about CPF was that you are like us -- skeptics! We're tired of the nightly news hype about the snowpocolype and we'd rather know the storm is not really shaping up, than the "get excited!!!!!" posts. Take a clue from CAIC here. Those guys are skiers and they WANT snow, but they are really good at expressing their doubts when the mainstream is going nuts. (Temp ranges, and predicted wind speeds and directions are also KEY parts of the forecast)
OK - rant over. Sounds like you're working on things and I'll be looking forward to the changes.
enuf wif da butthurt ppl
Joel-
I'm with these guys. I'm all for you expanding and making money, but your sweet spot and your strong points were the discussions and local forecasts. You've turned CPF into a site like every other commercial snow forecast site. Not a fan. I know it's new, and you're working on things, but please keep this in mind. We (TGR) and the colorado locals are what helped spread the word about CPF. We're your biggest fans and supporters. Don't forget us.
Thanks for the work you do!

Hope this storm isn't teh suck. All I see are stars out there.
There looks to a be large disturbance west of here on the radar, but if the winds are south, won't expect much till they change direction.

I just took a look at Wolf Creek's cam and its about whiteout conditions. It looked pretty windy too.
Snowed here for 20 min or so now the sky has cleared and the sun is back out

looks like the high terrain in the western end of the county may have gotten some snow, but I'm quickly losing confidence that the eastern side of the county will get anything at all...maybe a couple of inches up high..maybe. There goes my pow day...
