It was indeed just fucking NUKING on the parkway at about 5am this morning. Poor Sentinel had to leave Calgary at 3:30 am as we were heading to go do an early season misery mission and day trip Mt. Rhonda. We both swore we wouldn't do it again at this time of year after doing Gordon last year at this time...with this marginal coverage and not quite enough to skin, a bit too much to hike quick coverage it's a really long day and slow going until you get up high. Anyhow, we never even made it in to the parking lot as the access is totally closed due to a trouble maker:

So we drove all the way back down towards Robertson instead. Vis was ok, fresh snow but not as much as farther north and west.

As soon as we hit the glacier it socked in, started puking and vis went bye bye so we roped up felt our way up a ways, transitioned

And did some skiing by brail

    Twas good.

I for one need a pair of World Cup 155s (FKS style) mounted onto some on3p jeffrys whenever the skis get here. Figure you guys would be most proficient at the brake bending process for those binders? Jeffreys are only 107mm so not like they're going on DPS 138s but it's still a ~35mm stretch and Fresh gave me the "well we can try but those brake arms usually break when we do" line.

for brake bending, I dont think the store will be keen. I personally can try, but I've had limited success with them working.
are the brakes 60mm right now? keep in mind that bending them 35 wider, makes the arms 35mm shorter too, so a LOT less stopping power when the skis come off. I've seen a few runaway skis take off like rockets due to this...

I must say it was humerous for those that witnessed it. My only tip...my only tip I gave him was to not lean back... When he hit the rail there wasnèt even a pause...and then he was down.

They're standard width which I think is 75mm. The shorter arms shouldn't be a big deal, I've seen these bend to 125 and no problems. The main issue is having to disassemble them to get the brake out (or rather putting it back in). I don't have a vice or torch and would rather have a shop do it, but if you guys aren't comfortable doing it then that's fine.

    I learned that:
1 - I have no desire to try again
and 2 - it is fucking amazing how fast your legs can come out from under you.
I had a similar experience in Quebec a bunch of years back. I learned the same things. I decided then and there to stick to skiing on snow.

    It's winter up there

near elbow lake.. about half a foot of fresh on top of a crust that saved our bases. Up to 1 m deep in wind loaded sections. Still snowing as we left the lot

Looking good. I spent my afternoon waxing the boards in the garage. Thinking about maybe taking the skis for a walk next weekend.

That travel alberta videa was excellent. From the few ski shots where you could actually see some scenery, it looked like Fortress?? If so, I'm glad they got some decent shots from there...especially since they kicked us outta there one of the days they were filming last winter

lol...no. it was a little sore on Saturday and throwing boots skis rope and other gear on it for the day at Robertson completely fucked it to the point I can't sleep etc. Now i'm hemorraging cash going to chiro yesterday and tommorrow and awaiting acupuncture today and a massage appointment tommorrow just so I can fast track my way back up to work asap. Days off plan to get in 5 ski days = fail.

But hey, tommorrow will be shipping skis out and you know what that means....skis in.
