KW update: 6 is borkened and the hate rays emanating from mildbill's head are weakening an already unstable snowpack.

Saturday was the tits... diverted to Sierra and everywhere I went was freshies. Hit a wind drift in Huckleberry that was stomach deep that gave up amazing face blower. Sunday was much more challenging. New snow was way more dense and wet then the dry Saturday snow and made for some odd stopages. Also slid all the new snow off a roll-over in Gate 2 before it was closed and ended up neck deep in a slough pile, quite spooky. Ran into the infamous Mr. SchalphMacchio for a run or two before he split off, although the drive for the goods got us all seperated as we worked our own fresh piles. Good seein ya bro!!

Got in from a SAR in Firebreak at 2 am last night. Lone skier spent 4 hours wrapped around a tree until 8pm when the first team reached him. He had a lower leg injury, so we had to drag up a sled from the bottom, getting to him at around 11:30pm. Had my first experience tailgunning a sled at 1am in the dark.

Word from Douglas County SAR is that Douglas County has a statute on the books that lets them ticket people who go out of bounds from Heavenly (whether legally or illegally, under a rope or through an open gate) and need a rescue. Note, the Sheriff's can't ticket you if you go through an open gate and don't need a rescue. Eldorado County is trying to come up with a similar statute. I am not a lawyer or in law enforcement, but this is what I am hearing through the grapevine. Seems reasonable to me, since Douglas County has had more than 30 rescues in the Heavenly sidecountry since Xmas, which is more than they usually have in a calendar year and they are being run ragged. Apperently, there is alot of info on the interenet and being a good snow year, all sorts of JONGs are going out of bounds. The guy we rescued last night was by himself and had skinny skiis that might have been rentals.

Good skiing with you and B. The snow was fast and wet. 2 hours of riding from 16 hours of carpooling. Quite the day.

How high up firebreak did you haul that sled in 2.5 hours? Good on ya man...that was some of the gnarliest trailbreaking I've ever experienced yesterday. Heavenly won't run the gondola for a resuce in "their side country"?

At what point do you call off a SAR based on avy conditions? edit to add...Not sayin you should have last night but it must have been a point of discussion, just curious.

I've got mixed feelings about deciding what is ignorant enough to have to foot your own rescue bill, but damn throw the book at that guy and charge extra for hazard pay and a stupid tax.

    today was deep.

mildbill's head flames were cooled by a cold shower in a tub near kodak.

Kirkwood was deep today to say the least. Some of the best snow i've skied in a long time. 6 finally opened up shortly after 2 and i managed to get 3 of my best runs of the season. Wow the cornice is getting huge, first time out this season so very much snow. Sized up the heart chute today has anybody been in it this season?

Squaw was ill over the weekend. I hucked my meat and made a mooovie. It's a POV, in which I jump off things and repeatedly eat shit. Bring the hate!

squaw was all time sick and deep today. 3rd chair on broken arrow today yielded my best run of the season. that is all. crazy deep and light. repeat tomorrow when the rest of the mtn opens, it gets slayed, and the process starts all over again with the next wave of storms!

Nice edit. Like how the stop & go traffic timed with the beat.

I told my boss I will be sick tomorrow. Spur is open. Can't wait to get to KW.

Oh damn man, forgot to give you a call out! Typed that while I was supposed to be listening to a conference call back in the work world. Not a bad day when you're hooping and hollering like that still at the end of the day!

I can hardly walk now after 3 days of knee to chest deep powder and my face is burned up from all the snow facial treatment.

1st - anyone thinking of driving up the spur tonight or early AM magnana, be really careful. Caltrans has scraped the dry powder off the road and it's down to the glare ice layer from the wet snow Saturday and yesterday. Great tires highly recommended - sketchy driving starts a few miles after Ham's.

Great running into and riding with everyone. The weekend felt like a damn high school reunion.

It was puking when I left at 5 pm from Silver Lake to Peddler hill and Pali opened pretty late so ... Draw your own conclusions. Eagle ripped pretty big from the skiers left rock band and was super firm windslab down the gut. In a place not too far from there - blower silk. Cliff chutes also slid from patrol cornice work. Otherwise got some shooting cracks on a lot of turns but nothing major moved.

Rode bell to bell today 'cept for a lunch and 6 lineup break and some of the well timed runs were full on super-freeride-fantasy-wannabe-in-a-movie-except-I-ride-with-a-gayass-pole hero turns. Also tried some serious pole whacking look at me gonna rip the shit out of this off the ridge but no one got it ... Oh well. Next time I should just call out Garbiel and then beater down Patrolman's!

PS - powdork, the liftie lied to me but that shit did open soon after and Chad and I rocked it, so there!

PPS - I haven't compared the numbers yet, but who else is having a deja vu flashback to March 06?

Was thinking the same thing. The difference being I actually got to ski the really really deep day at Alpine. I will have my redemption soon.

I'm fucking exhausted. First chair with The Dad on Roundhouse, skied pretty much non-stop until my legs gave out at 3. Didn't get first chair on Scott, but was around the 20th chair. Good enough for amazing run down Scott Chute twice. Then Promised Land which was only OK - very variable from insane deep to kinda quick - but fun nonetheless. Last run down Lower 40 was absolutely amazing. Tomorrow first chair-ish on Summit with housemates and hopefully some maggots. Green Jacket, Black pants, white helmet and Lhasas.

Some pics of first chair and another ski instructor sending the big cliff (Hollywood?) at the top of Scott Chute (between the main entrance and the cornice entrance (arch pine). Big drop. Fun to watch. You can see his dreads flying behind him.

Me and The Dad on left waiting for first chair:

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.
