According to some reports, the condition that has stricken Ms. Richardson is known as "Talk and then Die Syndrome." That can't be good.

In any event, this just goes to prove what I've been saying all along- Natasha Richardson is the anti-Carl Landry. That motherfucker got shot in the leg and he's only going to miss four games.

Anybody catch the today show this morning?
Dr. Nancy was demonstrating brain injuries with an orange...pretty funny.

Seriously though- fucked up story. Apparently she didn't even wack her head. She just had a normal beginner fall and for whatever reason her brain started to swell....the ski patrol or whatever had no reason to eve give her verbal or visual tests to test for brain injury.

That definitely can't be good. She should carefully consider her next words, as they will be her last.

Since the patrol brought her down and advised that she go to the ER, I suspect they did test for a brain injury. I would guess those test showed that there was a brain injury.

Is it standard protocol to bring a person down on a sled, if no injuries are found?

At the time, Richardson was accompanied by a veteran ski instructor, who called the ski patrol, the statement said. The ski patrol members examined her and found no sign of injury.
"As standard protocol, the ski patrol insisted that Ms. Richardson be transported to the base of the hill in a rescue toboggan," the resort statement said. Once at the base of the hill, staffers advised Richardson to seek additional medical attention, but she declined.

Not sure what your point is, but something doesn't add up. If she wasn't hurt, was reported to be "laughing after the fall", "it was a normal beginer fall" and patrol found "no sign of injury" why did she go down in a sled?

None the less, sucks that she is in such bad shape.

YOu can be going super slow, catch an edge and get bitch slapped so hard, destroying your skull. YOu could be standing still and go down on your head and still suffer life threatening head trauma.

    Agreed!

    I hope she is OK.

You can crack you noggin pretty good an an icy beginner slope. Happened to me twice this year while teaching the kids and not paying attention to what I was doing. Our tail guide at Valhalla had an awesome wipeout on the cat track back to the cats. Luckily his pack kept his head off the ground. Helmets are good! It tends to happen more on a snowboard when you catch your heel edge facing uphill. It CAN happen to anyone regardless of ability.

My wife saw this on the news is is now back on the "I'm never going to snowboard" side of things.

Not making a point, just asking a question. I doubt if it is the protocol, and if not, where did the reporter come up with it?

I only watch when she uses a cucumber

You don't have to hit your hear very hard to start a bleed. If you are ever with some one that seems forget full, head aches, fuzzy vision et cetera after a head bump, get it checked out ASAP. Especially in older people, since these are also signs of a stroke.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Very unfortunately, I don't think that's the case. Family Friend: 'There Is No Chance' for Natasha Richardson. Lets hope it's only mass media hysteria.

I've yet to hear enough reliable information to even make an educated guess as to cause; could have been a pre-condition just waiting for that last little push, or even something completely un-related to the "normal" fall.

Mine too. Slipped on the ice while dropping off a large $$$ donation. He was at a level 1 trauma center within 15 minutes and still died three days later.

    Agreed,

Last year my twelve year old did a basic little kid tip over wearing a helmet, thought nothing of it.

Days pass and headaches began, took her to the doc, she had a type 3 concussion. Six months of short term memory problems, periods of blackout, held out of all physical activities for one year...and talk about headaches.

Typical CYA press release from Intrawest. I further like the part where they also clearly state she was NOT wearing a helmet. Guess they forgot the "saddened by the tragic events, prayers for the family part" and went right to the Lawyer speak, don't sue or butts press release.

    Real Classey Intrawest.

This was an interesting video about how these injuries occur and what part of the brain is involved.
I also thought about pre-existing medical problems(injuries, hereditary brain anomalies, and medication) that NR may have had before her fall. Many factors could have exacerbated the injury.
Bottom-line, it could happen to anyone, anytime.
Most celebs I could give a shit about but Richardson-Neesom seem to be of the non-attention-whore-variety of celeb so I feel a little more empathy for them.

Ski buddy bumped her head ten yards into blue run transfer between lifts a couple of weeks ago and even with a helmet on she lost her memory for about five minutes. It was quite cool when she started remembering stuff. It began with her admission that she had eaten all the pear pie left in the fridge.

This story made me think about a journal article about minor head injuries adding up over time. After a while if you have another "minor" concussion, it could resemble a much more serious injury and you could end up drinking out of a straw.

Like many people on this board, I've had my share of concussions, so it is something to think about.
