Saw it last night. I have to agree with Alta Girl. Ledger was by far the best part of the film. Other than that it was a very good action movie but it's not worthy of the number 1 film of all time on IMDB. Come on now.

My thoughts exactly. I think so many people are feeling it was so good because there has been so much shit out there nowadays. It was a great movie but better than silence of the lambs? same level as apocalypse now?? one of the best of all time?? Rewatch some of those movies and get a grip people.

Wowa, slow down there spiffy! I never said it was the same level as Apocalypse Now. I said it wasn't at that level but at the same level as Silence of the Lambs (which I still stand by - if that won best pic, this at least diserves a nomination). It's a really good movie and a genre masterpeice but in no way is it a top 10, 20 , or even 50 movie.

You're thinking of "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". It was still shooting when he died and I've heard that Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude law stepped in to play various parts of Ledger's role. If I remember correctly they are playing Ledger's character in some fantasy scenes in the movie. It could be a good flick, because Terry Gilliam wrote and directed it, or it could be really bad because Terry Gilliam wrote and directed it.

i just went back and watched batman begins, its really not that good of a movie. the whole villain story was incredibly lame/silly.. its amazing how well recieved it was but i guess anytime you follow two movies like batman forever and batman and robin, anything remotely half decent inevitably looks like genius by comparison. the dark knight is a -much- better movie on pretty much every level except for batmans voice..

Have seen dark knight twice now.....its pretty damn good. A bit over-hyped (it is not better than the Godfathers, Apocalypse Now, etc) but is probably the best comic book movie ever. Honestly I didn't notice the length or get annoyed by the Batman voice at all.

The only part that really sucked was walking out with the Joker character left wide open for more movies. Except Ledger's dead, and no one's going to be able to follow up what he did with that character.

Heard Angelina Jolie got cast as Catwoman in the next one...could be interesting.

So apparently both presidential candidates have the same opinions regarding Batman. Good to see that CNN's stepping up to the plate to report some quality news: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...e-dark-knight/

What's even funnier is some of the comments that people make on this article...apparently their true colors shine when discussing superheroes. Here's two, but I'm sure there's more:

"This is a perfect example of the differences between the two candidates.

McCain wants to be the hero.

Obama wants to be the victim.

America will make the right choice in November.

…..and it WILL NOT BE Obama!"

    And representing the Democrats:
    "One big difference -
McCain wants to Batman for the oil companies; and
Obama wants to be Batman for the people."

I'd read Daniel Day-Lewis as the new villain, maybe. I'll see if I can find it again. IMHO, this would be a good move.

They better not make one about the Penguin. Seriously, a Penguin?

Actually, I thought DeVito was awesome as the Penguin.

It was an exciting movie and Heath Ledger delivered one of the sickest and most intense performances of the last 20 years. Just fucking incredible. But, it definately does not deserve a best picture nomination and it won't get one. And if it is nominated you can teabag me in public, while yelling "That's right, take 'em...don't ever disrespect the bat!" in Christian Bale's horrid Batman voice.

When films are being reviewed for the oscars or any other reputable organization they are going to be looking for a well structured film, which it wasn't. That may get some people mad but its a fact. It was all over the place. But Ledger was so god damn incredible you almost don't care. He was the movie.

    In short:

    Ledger = legendary
Jonathan and Christopher Nolan(the writers) = owned by Hollywood

Saw it last night. Thought the opening was done very well. The ending felt very rushed and the denouement was practically nonexistent. As far as Ledger's performance, it was very solid, but nothing as spectacular in the sense of being one of the greatest acting performances in the last whatever years.

And Bale's Batman voice got progressively worse throughout the movie. I could tolerate it up until the last 45 minutes.

Saw it friday night with my buddy and we both thought it was great. He's home for a couple weeks and we were hitting the bars pretty hard so we decided to "take it easy" friday night and went to see The Dark Night. As we walked out of the theater, buddy said "I thought we were taking it easy tonight. I didn't realize we were going to eat two hits of acid and sit on a rollercoaster for 7 hours straight." Pretty much summed up how we both felt about the movie. Blown away, giddy and walked away thinking "what the hell just happened?! christ that was intense!"

Saw it at last. Good comic book movie. For a comic book movie. But better than the Godfather ? Please. And the Godfather is not even a favorite of mine.
Overextended (they should have cut 45 minutes), too much pretentious dialogues, Ledger's good but not outstanding (psychotic murderers acting performances are not that impressive IMO. And the make-up helps a lot), Bat costume is meh... IMO the Joker crimes are so cartoonish (how did he manage to put all that gasoline in the Gotham hospital ?!) that it totally blows the character. And the script generaly just don't hold water. Too much inconsistencies.

Not even close to Miller's Dark Knigth Returns.
