Popped my Cherry. Didn't hurt that bad

I had the pleasure of paying $4.03 a gallon today. $60.00 fill up.
As I was waiting for the car to fill up, I was thinking, it could be $6.00 a gallon and I would just have to bend over and take it, as I have to drive a lot for my job.
I read an article the other day, that I linked in another post, about the authors case for $180 a barrel oil That would put us in the $6 a gallon range. If it happens (it will sooner or later) I bet you people will deal with it and continue to drive their SUVs and big trucks. Sure they may cut back on some long trips, maybe a vacation here and there, but I think we will all go willingly to slaughter, rather than as a nation make the huge investment in real alternative/renewable energies that is needed because there is 0 leadership for this cause.
I am very bummed this issue is not the main part of any candidates platform for President. I am way more concerned about energy and it's ramifications on the economy and our standard of living than I am about universal health care.
    Fucking pussy candidates.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Liv2ski - I agree. I wish that was more of a focus for the candidates.

Well yes, I did start out by remaking on breaking the $4 level for the first time, but really, my point was more about my general dismay that not one candidate has a solid take on energy policy, what they think needs to be done to wean ourselves from the tit of foreign oil, what alternatives they would push besides more of the same at a higher price, etc.
In the few debates I have heard, I can't remember this ever being thoroughly answered. Like I said, I care more about energy policy and what we are going to do to get off oil then all the promises of the Federal government will do this for you and that for you. Who gives a shit about universal health care when the cheap available energy that built this country and supported our economy is no longer available? Oil is a dwindling resource, when are we going to be like France and do something about it? I am all for nukes, wind mills all over the Dakotas, solar, hydrogen, etc. What are the candidates going to propose to get this country going down a new track?
How do we contact the douche bags and voice our concerns and frankly, will they give a shit as they are so busy promising to take care of us.

    Lloyd lives in Aspen.

I live 20 miles from Aspen and filled up for $3.87 a gallon. 22 gallons and it was $83.

I remember being on a road trip in the spring of '05. I filled up for $2.87/gal outside Vegas and was shocked by that price.

$6/gal might actually get people to think about alternatives. If that is what it takes, so be it.

My buddy with a Yaris looks like a genius right now.

Soo 3.76 per gallon At the CHEAP BOOMTOWN station.

The pump kicked off (Full) @ 74.90
I figure it would have been about 82.$ if the tank were emty

I have cut way back on joy rides up to the Lake. Driving up hill to the lake is starting to cost about 20$ in gas per trip.

I think its going up to about 4$ by June.

There will come a point when people change their habits, but it may be at more like $7-10

It will mean big changes though. Low density suburban sprawl will become a thing of the past (as will the SUV)

It's time for reality, and the pols can do nothing. Jim Cramer said on MSNBC that oil has been underpriced for a long time, and it will be $5 next year at this time. Answer? The USA is a wasteful society and has been for a long time. People have to figure out FOR THEMSELVES how to cut back on their gasoline use. Yes, people have to get to work, BUT we HAVE to. The only way. Myself? I use my motorcycle, public transit and drive an old Suby that gets at least 28mpg. Run synthetic oil, maintain your tire presuure, etc etc. The only way out of this one..

You americans have nothing to complain about. $1.30 a litre here in Vancouver today, which is about $4.85 USD a gallon. And even that is nothing compared to europe. It sucks but it has to happen so people change their habits. It almost makes $2 billion LRT and transit plans make a little more sense.

    Right, Einstein....
    +++++++++++
He's brash. He's arrogant. He can be obnoxious.

But there is one thing that you can not deny. The man has an insatiable thirst for the stock market that translated into millions of dollars for himself and everyone invested in his fund.

Over the fifteen years that Cramer and his partner, Jeff Berkowitz, managed Cramer Berkowitz, the fund returned 24% per year to its shareholders. This is particularly impressive when you consider that these returns are after fees (Cramer Berkowitz took the standard 20% cut of profits and 1% annual management fee.)

Cramer was the driving force behind the success of the hedge fund. He had a near encyclopedic knowledge of the stock market that allowed him to participate in nearly every news-driven event. If any company reported their earnings, Cramer would be able to tell you within a second whether or not that number was good. Through his dealings with the brokers that filled his trades and associations with CEO's and others in the industry, Cramer was able to assemble a network of contacts that allowed him to get information pretty much before anyone else. Cramer would know about an upgrade or downgrade before the investing public, and that gave his fund a pretty big edge. If you were a major broker on Wall Street and you just upgraded a stock, and Cramer's funds did millions of dollars in commissions per year through you, wouldn't you want him to know about your upgrade first before anyone else? This is how it worked.

Cramer was a notorious workaholic, getting 3 hours of sleep per night and getting his work day started at 3 am (on the East coast.) Cramer would do some work at this hour, then work out, then read an estimated 26 newspapers on the way to work in New York, and then put in a full day, working many hours before and after the market closed.

Cramer realized in 2000 that the work hours were putting a stress on his body and his relationship with his family. Somewhere during 2001, Cramer realized that he had all of the money in the world but was still freaking out about the daily fluctuations in the stock market. One particularly bad experience revolving around Brocade earnings caused him to flip his lid one last time, and realize that he needed to step away from the hedge fund game and just concentrate on thestreet.com, which would be a much less stresser environment.

He handed over the reins of Cramer Berkowitz to Jeff Berkowitz at the end of 2001, with the funds total assets totalling over $400 million dollars. He had endured a lot during the run of the fund; multiple SEC investigations, a near liquidation of his fund in the late 90's, and multiple disgruntled employees would couldn't handle Cramer's frantic style.

When the dust cleared though, Cramer had made many millions for himself and his investors, and had raised his profile to be one of the most recognized and well-known stock traders in the world. Love him or hate him, the Cramer Berkowitz era was a very lucrative time for Mr. Cramer.
