That always amazes me. I have never been a corporate guy. I have been self employed for 30 years. My wife left a job in October to take some time off and is now having to fictitiously fill that hole in her resume to be considered for a new job.

I find that to be utter bullshit. Just because most of corporate America has never had a free thinking thought in their miserable cubicated lives, all employment gaps are forbidden.

So, at 50, wife and I are talking about extending her resume gap to include next winter and ski bumming.

It's mainly so you don't hire people who omitted things like prison or mental institution time, not that there's anything wrong with that. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a hilarious job description.

Being somewhat sarcastic. The French are great, as long as you don't have to share a warm gondola with them.

A lot would have to do with where the surf shop is. If it is in Portland...pass. If it is a cool location, and you really get to manage it, and are paid as such (if the shop does well, you do well), then option 2 is a good one. Option 3 is good, but becasue it leaves you with a lot of options, and if something great comes along you can take it, If not, you are in the same place you are now, poorer in cash, but richer in experience, and had a good time doing it.

As for #1, I have never worked in a cubicle, but it must be hell. I am sure I would have a price that would make me doing, but it would have to be hella high.

So in other words; bad choice.
